Christopher Ononukwe (born on 22 November 1984) is a young Nigerian author, critic, teacher, and media practitioner from the Igbo extraction.[1][2][3] His 18th book Fundamentals of Government: A Complete Guide for Schools & Colleges, which has now been approved and recommended by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) for secondary schools and tertiary education levels, attracts media attention following its launch on 16 October 2023 in Owerri, Imo state.[4][5][6][7]

Life and background

Christopher Ononukwe was born in Bariga, Lagos, where he also attended Abule Ayo Primary School and Bishop Howell's Memorial Grammar School before relocating to Anambra state to further his university education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, where he was a course mate to Collete Nwadike, a Nigerian model, beauty queen and Nollywood actress, who represented Nigeria in the Exquisite Face of the Universe Pageant in Sao Tome and emerged winner, becoming the first African to do so. He hails from Umuezukwe, Awo Omamma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo state, Nigeria.[8] He is currently employed as Communication Officer with Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC).[9]

Writing career

As a media practitioner and critic, Ononukwe has published several articles on issues bordering on human rights, social justice, and social protection programme on Nigeria's newspapers. With its publication and launch, his 18th book, Fundamentals of Government whose foreword was written by Abdul Mahmud, has recently attracted attention from political scientists,readers, media practitioners, human rights activists and politicians, among whom is Dr Sam Nwagbo, who extolled extolled “the author for his intellectual work, describing it as a masterpiece that explores the ‘fundamentals of effective government.'" While describing Ononukwe as a ‘committed, prolific author', Ugoanyanwu hails him ‘for writing the book which he said would en­rich the knowledge of the readers'.[10][11]

Intellectual theft

In an interview published on Imo-based newspaper Trumpeta, Ononukwe recounted how his intellectual property fraudsters wanted to exploit the manuscript of Fundamentals of Government: A Complete Guide for Schools & Colleges, for their self gains having seen the quality of the book.[12]
