We've come to a point where we need to make a decision. With close to half of the individual season article stubs currently created, an easy way to navigate between the articles is needed. I see two options: Option 1 we include a hideable seasons list on the main Template:St. Louis Cardinals navbox (the way it currently appears) or Option 2 we use the separate Template:St. Louis Cardinals seasons navbox and place it underneath the main navbox on the individual season articles only. Vote for your preference below. I favor Option 2. Timpcrk87 21:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely Option 2. No reason to clutter up the main navbox. Clarkefreak 21:58, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe do decades?

[edit]

Would it be possible to put the decades in the box, so you click on the 1990's and you go to a page that has links to the 1990-99 seasons, 1980's has 1980-89, etc? DrewD007 21:58, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure it would be possible, but I don't like the idea at all. That creates a dozen new pages with only ten links each, it would be very unneccesary and redundant with the St. Louis Cardinals seasons article and the Template:St. Louis Cardinals seasons navbox.Timpcrk87 17:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you were going to do this, you would have to merge the season articles and I don't like that idea. Clay4president2 18:10, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name for 1800s season articles

[edit]

What should we name the articles for the seasons before 1900 when the team was not called the Cardinals yet? Should we still name the article the 1892 St. Louis Cardinals season or should we go with 1892 St. Louis Browns season and then 1899 St. Louis Perfectos season? I'm in favor of doing it the second way with 1892 St. Louis Cardinals rediricting to the real article at 1892 St. Louis Browns and so on. Is there a consensus on this subject? Timpcrk87 17:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree. It should be "St. Louis Browns Season" and "St. louis Cardinals should redirect to it. Clay4president2 18:14, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article to keep an eye on Darryl Kile

[edit]

An editor on the page wants to keep changing the infobox to colors to "Astro colors" from the Cardinals colors they currently are. Now even though I'm a Cards fan, I don't think infobox colors should changed on whims like this-unless maybe we are dealing with a current player changing teams. With all the different teams and fans, the color changes could be endless.(Think of the edit war you could have over Roger Clemens' colors). I think the simplest solution is to respect the original colors established in the article-similar to how we respect the American or British English used in the original article. If Darryl Kile's infobox was first created in Astro colors I would feel the same way just like I'm ok with Keith Hernandez being in Mets color. He had his best years by far with the Cards but the article was first created with Mets colors, so be it. AgneCheese/Wine 18:36, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He played six seasons with Houston, including throwing a no-hitter, and only two seasons with the Redbirds. I think it's fine to keep it Houston colors. Personally, I remember him as a Card, especially since he died while a member of the team, but he's probably just as famous as an Astro and they have the edge both in drafting him and in him playing there longer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phyrkrakr (talkcontribs) 16:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update our Project template?

[edit]

I recently noticed that WikiProject Boston Red Sox has their project template box setup like our parent WikiProject Baseball does, which they can use to keep track of quality & importance ratings related to their team. I think modifying our template to include ratings would be a great way to help us keep track on the status of our own top priority articles. I was wondering what others think about this proposed change. Monowi 06:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I definitely agree here. I set up all of the templates for WP:BOSOX and it is much easier than the way we have it set up here.   jj137 (Talk) 16:49, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good; nice work on the stuff for WP:BOSOX by the way, Jj137. I'll take a crack at the Cards template over the course of this week and see what I can come up with.Monowi 21:08, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current A/FA articles

[edit]

Can somebody please list the current A/FA articles incorporated in this project? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Phyrkrakr (talkcontribs) 16:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First, welcome to WP:St. Louis Cardinals Phyrkrakr. The easiest way to see a list of our articles that have reached Feature Article status is by clicking the "FA" link of left hand side of our articles ratings table; it's the first thing you'll see under the "Rating Articles" section. The reason you can't find any "A" class articles under our project is because there currently are none, so that category automatically gets left out of the article ratings table (although Ozzie Smith is getting pretty close to "A" status). Let me know if you have any questions about WP:St. Louis Cardinals, and thanks again for helping our project out! Monowi (talk) 09:27, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shortened history section

[edit]

I've been working on a shorter history section for the Cardinals article based on other sports team articles that have reached FA status, such as Chicago Bears and New England Patriots. Because it will be a very drastic edit to the article, I want to let everyone know so they can review it first. Here: User:Timpcrk87/sandbox/Cardinals Leave comments either here on on that pages discussion page. Timpcrk87 (talk) 01:41, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After looking over your proposed changes to the main article, I have to say I totally agree with them. Based on the Bears' article, there is a clear precedent of placing an in-depth history on the "History of..." page, and a concise summary on the main article. Keep up the good work, Monowi (talk) 07:29, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the changes as well. Similar to what Monowi said, I looked at your new Cards article, and at the current one, and it is pretty obvious that so far yours is better.   jj137 20:51, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I guess that's fine as long as all the material currently on the main "St. Louis Cardinals" page is preserved on the "History of the St. Louis Cardinals" page. Vidor (talk) 14:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Award Ideas

[edit]

I've noticed that some of the baseball wikiprojects like WP:NYY & WP:BOSOX have their own wikiproject award, and I thought that something like that would be a cool thing for us to have too. Would anyone like to undertake creation of a WikiProject STL Cards award, or do you have any ideas for the award you'd like to share? Thanks, Monowi (talk) 17:56, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be willing to try and create one. I'll try to create a good image for it.   jj137 (talk) 21:08, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having some trouble finding a good picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?   jj137 (talk) 21:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How about the Busch Stadium Infobox picture located at Image:BuschStadium 2006-05-30.jpg? Monowi (talk) 23:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That looks like a good one.   jj137 (talk) 01:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just added the Award to the main page. If there are any more suggestions/ideas, feel free to post them here. Thanks, Monowi (talk) 08:22, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old seasons

[edit]

I have no idea if anybody's going back and adding to old season articles. But if anybody feels like doing so as this page suggests, the best thing would be to start with world championship seasons. I wrote the 2006 article and added quite a bit to the 1964 article but there is little on anything of the others. Vidor (talk) 21:56, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I try to go back and expand them where possible, but due to there being thousands of them it can get hard.   jj137 (talk) 01:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are only ten world championship seasons. And 2006 and 1964 have quite a bit of material, so really there are only eight. I'm just saying, if anybody takes it on themselves to expand the old articles, that would be the best place to start. Vidor (talk) 16:42, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your comments Vidor; it's one of the reasons I help to implement our Project's article importance rating system that you can read about on the project page. I'm pretty sure the all the world championship season are list as "high-importance" right now, so hopefully other people will catch on and edit those seasons first. Good work on the 2006 article by the way. Monowi (talk) 03:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should Ozzie Smith be a featured article candidate?

[edit]

I was hoping to get a second opinion about whether or not I should nominate Ozzie Smith as a Featured article candidate. The article is about as comprehensive as I can make it; the only thing I'm even remotely concerned about is if anything has been missed in copyediting. I'd love to hear any suggestions about what to add or change in the article, and if you think the article is ready for nomination. Thanks, Monowi (talk) 02:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After some additional edits, I've just nominated the article at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. Hopefully our project will have our first Top-Importance Featured Article ever! Monowi (talk) 03:35, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Josh Kinney

[edit]

The Josh Kinney page needs some work. I wish I knew how to do it. The picture/stats section on the right is not there and there is red link at the top of the page.Topgun530 (talk) 18:08, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like you're referring to the Template:Infobox MLB player. This is the standard template from Wikiproject Baseball that most articles about current MLB players use; just click on the link above, and copy & paste the template text into the top of Josh Kinney's article. I would also suggest taking a look at other current MLB players to get a sense of how those article are setup, such as the GA-Class rated Iván Rodríguez article. If you have any more questions, feel free to post them here, & I'll be more than happy to help out. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 20:15, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With the recent promotion of Brett Wallace to AA Springfield, I went ahead and created an article. If you guys think it needs work or additions/subtraction, please help me out. I'm just getting accustomed to wikipedia. Thanks.

Invitation to banner discussion

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for St. Louis Cardinals

[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:28, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey all, have started an article on George Kissell (was surprised to not find one), given his influence on the organization over almost 70 years. Please come help out! umrguy42 14:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bo Hart

[edit]

Everyone loves Bo Hart. Every Cardinal fan alive. Anyways, his wiki page is really lacking. The first thing it needs is an infobox. The MLB player one obviously doesn't fit, neither does the retired player, because he's still playing. He played 73 games for the Kansas City T-Bones this year (and hit .272). Can anyone find an appropriate infobox for him? The page needs other work as well. Topgun530 (talk) 22:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree; Bo Hart is awesome. The template you're looking for does happen to be the new Template:Infobox MLB player, which combines both active and retired players. Bo's notability, i.e. the reason he's notable enough to have a Wiki article, is because he did play at the MLB level. So, even though he's currently in the minors, this template is correct one. I have added the template to the article, so definitely add any info to the infobox or article that you want to. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 08:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good job on that page, it looks great. I will add his major league stats when I get a chance. Topgun530 (talk) 16:13, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinators' working group

[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:39, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Project page redesign ideas

[edit]

I'm currently considering taking a break from improving Stan Musial to re-design our project page. While we are clearly ahead of other baseball team projects in terms of quantity of Featured content, the current project page just doesn't do the Cardinals, or our project, justice anymore. I'd like some input from project members concerning re-design ideas and implementation, and maybe even ideas on how to make our project stand out from the other team projects. The main Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball page seems like a great place to start, and the BoSox team project page is really well done too. As I've said, any thoughts or comments are welcome. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 05:16, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've started work on the redesign. Check out my sandbox to see what I'm working on. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 07:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken the liberty of implementing the main page redesign. It's not perfect yet, but I think it's a monumental improvement over the last version of our project page. Monowi (talk) 08:43, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks nice, good work. Borgarde (talk) 08:50, 20 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Debate about Stan Musial infobox picture

I wanted to give any interested editors a heads-up that there is currently a discussion on Stan Musial's Talk page about whether to use a free-use image or a copyrighted image for the Infobox. Other opinions are definitely welcome on this matter, so feel free to hop on over to the talk page to join the discussion. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 05:38, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Death of the Curse of the Bambino"

[edit]

Hi all, it seems that User:SNIyer12 is hot to add all sorts of importance about this topic to Cards-related pages, and in particular, on the fact that Busch Memorial Stadium was the location for the "death" (including it in the Sox-Yanks rivalry navbox - see my discussion here, trying to add Sox and the Sox-Yanks rivalry navboxes to the Old Busch article, etc.) I'm asking for extra opinions, eyes (and possibly help), because SNIyer12 seems to be on a slow push for this. S/he's reverted, waits a bit, and then re-does the edits, despite being asked not to. So, I ask - is it just me, or is this "death" just not that big in Cards lore, and does anybody think that Old Busch (itself) is that big in the Sox lore? umrguy42 22:43, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While there aren't too many pleasant memories to recall from the 2004 World Series for Cards fans like myself, I'd have to say there is virtually no importance from a Cardinals perspective about the BoSox's supposed curse; that's something that WP:BoSox should be dealing with almost exclusively. I mean, yeah, it's worth a brief one sentence mention on the Busch Memorial Stadium article as far as it being the place the supposed curse ended, but that's about it. Sorry it took so long to respond to this post, but it's definitely something our project members can look out for going forward. Monowi (talk) 05:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot

[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject St. Louis Cardinals/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject St. Louis Cardinals/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.

Sports Notability

[edit]

There is discussion ongoing at Wikipedia_talk:BIO#RFC:_WP:Athlete_Professional_Clause_Needs_Improvement debating possible changes to the WP:ATHLETE notability guideline. As a result, some have suggested using WP:NSPORT as an eventual replacement for WP:ATHLETE. Editing has begun at WP:NSPORT, please participate to help refine the notability guideline for the sports covered by this wikiproject. —Joshua Scott (LiberalFascist) 03:25, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I just took a look at the WP:NSPORT notability guidelines for baseball, and they are right in line with what WP:Baseball had up until now, and I totally agree with them. Essentially, this inflicts no direct change of any kind to WP:CARDS.Monowi (talk) 07:05, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template:St. Louis Cardinals seasons

[edit]

Just as a heads-up, I have removed the seasons template from all Cardinals team-season pages. Because the Cardinals team template already contains the list of Cardinals seasons, this template was redundant, simply causing the same list to be repeated. -Dewelar (talk) 05:10, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and nominated the template for deletion. See below. -Dewelar (talk) 03:14, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stand for Stan - Help make his article a Featured Article

[edit]

I vigorously support the St. Louis Cardinals' "Stand for Stan" campaign, and I have nominated Stan Musial's article as a Featured Article Candidate. I believe this is the best way I can contribute to the campaign, as increased visibility and accurate information about Stan should lead others to readily conclude he is more than worthy of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I Stand for Stan, & I hope you will too by commenting on or supporting his article's Featured Article nomination. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 21:49, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Folding@home team and potential outreach steps

[edit]

With Stan's article close to reaching Featured Article status, it got me thinking about the future of our WikiProject. Ideally, I'd like the project to have sustained activity for the foreseeable future, and to find ways to draw the interest of people who would enjoy researching and writing about Cardinals-related people and topics. I decided to take a very small first step in the outreach of our WikiProject by establishing a WikiProject St. Louis Cardinals team for Folding@home[1]. As their website describes, Folding@home is a volunteer-based distributed computing project that seeks "to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases" like Alzheimer's and various cancers. Check out the Folding@home website for more info on how to participate, and be sure to use our team number:192057

Dreaming big, if we could establish a fairly active member base, this could lead to things like having WP:CARDS members organize to participate in events like the Susan G. Coleman Race for the Cure in St. Louis, members making presentations about Stan, Ozzie, or other HOF people to schoolkids, or even to one day have some kind of formal or informal presence at the Cardinals annual winter warm-up (now that would be totally cool!). Feel free to post any ideas or comments related to outreach of our project below.

I'd also like to go on record and give props to Tony LaRussa for how he and entire team handled some recent controversy thrown at them, described in this article[2]. Notice how Tony specifically mentioned the Cardinal Way in the article I just linked to, because of course the Cardinals Way is what our WikiProject is all about. I'm extremely proud of both Tony and the organization for turning a negative into a positive. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 08:01, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

St. Louis Cardinals articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the St. Louis Cardinals articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Cardinals-Reds and Cardinals-Cubs rivalry articles

[edit]

I was hoping to get more information on the Cardinals-Reds rivalry since that has now been renewed. I would also like info on the Cardinals-Cubs rivalry to be added to. See the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. I would love to find out more information detailed like that article has it. Arnabdas (talk) 15:21, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The off-hand info I can offer about this rivalries is unfortunately not very fact-based...In regards to the Cards-Reds rivalry, I would've been hard pressed to say there was even any kind of rivalry until one of the Reds' players made some derogatory comments during the '10 season. Since the Cards and Reds have been in the N.L. so long, you'd think there me more of a rivalry there, but that would really have to be proven by further research. In regards to the Cards-Cubs rivalry, I regard it as an intense yet mostly friendly rivalry. Certainly Cards-Cubs games don't routinely devolve into fights or derogatory taunting and obscene language use between fans and/or players like you would find with the NYY-BOS series, or Cubs-White Sox, etc. There have been multiple books written about the Cards-Cubs rivalry, and off the top of my head I can think of one called something like "The I-55 Series." I'm not aware of any project members currently planning on improving the Cards-Cubs article, but hopefully some of the books out there can get you the info you need. I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 21:12, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Our project had a brief moment in the limelight today as Ozzie Smith was the featured article on English Wikipedia's main page for November 17, 2010! Congrats to our project and project members on this, and let us continue to add to the legacy of the St. Louis Cardinals here on Wikipedia! Monowi (talk) 04:10, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Short notice, I know, but if you all are in town and interested in coming tomorrow evening, you're more than welcome.--Chaser (talk) 21:48, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the invitation. I'm interested in collaborating with other editors in the STL area, so I'm hopeful I can attend a possible future meetup to represent our project. I think it's very cool St. Louis was one of a handful of cities worldwide to have wiki-meetups on 1-15-2011, and I thank you for taking this first step towards establishing a more cohesive wiki community in St. Louis. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 07:39, 7 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Post-season regional series

[edit]

I thought I'd bring to your attention of a little nugget I found on Retrosheet. They have a list of post-season regional series' played in the early 20th century. One recently added involves the Cardinals vs the Brown in 1917. You can see it here, it may be worth exploring a possible creation of an article covering this.Neonblak talk - 15:17, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the post; I had never even heard of the 1917 matchup, and it's very cool, especially the Browns pitcher who threw 18 scoreless innnings in the same day! As far as creating an article, this is something I'm not interested in pursuing right now, but I welcome any editor who would like to start up an article and maybe see if any more info can be uncovered as well. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 07:39, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

State of the Project 2011

[edit]

For posterity's sake, I'd thought I'd throw together a brief overview of where the Project is at right now, and sort of "think out loud" about the project's future. In short, 2010 was a solid year for WikiProject St. Louis Cardinals, as Stan Musial's article was promoted to Featured Article status, and Ozzie Smith's article made the English Wikipedia main page on Nov. 17th. In fact, I would be bold enough to say Stan's wiki article played a small part in helping the campaign to get him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In terms of participation, what the project lacks in numbers of participants we make up for with quality work. As seen with other articles like 1926 World Series & Rogers Hornsby, the Cardinals are such a large part of baseball history we enjoy a large crossover with other teams and work by other editors, helping to increase the project's article quality. In comparison to the other MLB team-specific wikiprojects, ours is essentially the most active right now, and our Project's page design continues to rank in the top two of all MLB team projects. In terms of outreach, my first step towards outreach using the Folding@Home team haven't yielded anything, but admittedly I haven't really ever tried to recruit anyone to the project, either online or in person. As evidenced by the 01-15-2011 St. Louis editors meetup mentioned above, there is opportunity to continue growing collaboration. Looking towards the future, something like our Project's presence as the annual St. Louis Cardinals winter warm-up remains a pipe-dream, as is our Project being represented at the annual Wikimania conference. As long as we can keep a modest level of activity, I still feel confident we can one day reach the project's goal of having all top importance articles at Featured Article status. Cheers, Monowi (talk) 07:39, 7 March 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Discussion on Albert Pujols

[edit]

With the news that Albert has left St. Louis & signed with Anaheim, I thought it was appropriate for a discussion post. First, and needless to say, I've removed his picture from our Project's front page, and replaced it with one of Yadi, who I would now consider to be the face of our franchise. What are your thoughts; is Carp or Waino a better choice? Should we go with a picture of a retired player? Please also link to the free-use picture (from wikimedia commons) you'd like to use if you'd prefer a different pic than the current one of Yadi.

I'd also encourage project members to remain positive, and if anyone was contributing to or monitoring his article, let's find an important Cardinals figure, like Red or Whitey, to shift our energy too. Also, what are your thoughts on how we should rate Albert's article importance for our Project; top importance? high importance? I'd recommend we keep him at high importance & wait to see if he goes into Cooperstown as Cardinal. Thoughts? Cheers, Monowi (talk) 03:30, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Individual article for [Game Six of the 2011 World Series] for deletion

[edit]

A deletion request has been submitted for [Game Six of the 2011 World Series]. I urge all interested editors to immediate post on the discussion thread, located here[3] to keep the article. I've made an argument defending our project's right to have this article exist on english wikipedia, & I remain committed to not let a deleltion occur, unlike what happened to the project's Cardinals care article. Monowi (talk) 02:12, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Monowi. Looking at the deletion request, the votes to delete have the lead but are not overwhelming. I hope we can still rally support to keep the article. Vidor (talk) 10:22, 28 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Muboshgu won. I suggest that his action of November 2011 in which he deleted material recounting this game in the 2011 World Series page is proof of bad faith. I suggest all interested parties watch the page and see whether, after claiming on the AfD page that the solution was to expand the Game 6 subsection of that page, he actually deletes material on that page as he did in November of last year. New Article for Game Six of the 2011 World Series

[edit]

I was at the List of MLB Perfect Games article not long ago, and I noticed that all the games in the modern era had their own articles. I thought about how that douchebag Muboshgu was responsible for my article getting deleted, and I got angry. I feel like creating an article again. Would people who work on this project like to contribute to it, and defend it if that douchebag or other douchebags should try and delete it again? Vidor (talk) 02:27, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for someone to take a look at Al Olmsted and/or Kim Seaman

[edit]

I'm working on game logs for the Phillies (my eventual goal is to work back to 1883, their inaugural year). I was working on September 1980 the last couple of days and came across Al Olmsted's page which consisted of 2 lines and an infobox. Since I'm not a deer-hunter, I spent this first day of buck season here in Pennsylvania updating his article and trying to find multiple varied sources to cite the information. Since Olmsted was a Cardinal, I'm looking for a Cards' fan to critique my work. Bob305 (talk) 02:53, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Go Phightins!, Spanneraol, and Buster7: I've added to Kim Seaman in the same way. Any suggestions from Cards fans (or Cubs fans, Dodger fans, or baseball fans in general) would be appreciated. (I'm watching both pitchers' talk pages as well as here, so comment where you wish!) Bob305 (talk) 01:23, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Bob. Any chance you could remind me come the weekend? I am busy this week, and don't want to forget by then ... thanks! Go Phightins! 01:30, 4 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All right, so for both players, it is always ideal if we can incorporate newspaper or magazine feature stories to substantiate biographical information, or at the very least, newspaper game summaries which often have tidbits such that readers have the option to follow our article to one of our sources for more information. If possible, it would be good to add some additional secondary sources, but other than that, what you did is well within policy, and augmented the information already in the articles. Great job. Go Phightins! 18:17, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for someone to take a look at Dan O'Brien (pitcher)

[edit]

Over the past several days I've expanded the article for Dan O'Brien (pitcher). I'm looking for any constructive criticism and/or an experienced editor to remove the WP:stub if appropriate. @John of Reading:, you removed the stub from Kim Seaman (see section above) (and corrected my typo, thanks!); if you have time to take a look at this article, thanks! Bob305 (talk) 21:11, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Bob305: I've read through the text and removed the stub tag. I'm not a baseball expert, though. -- John of Reading (talk) 22:17, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! ... but you're good at proofreading! Bob305 (talk) 23:52, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Skip Schumaker

[edit]

Would a couple of folks mind reviewing and commenting on Talk:Skip Schumaker about including the 2006 World Series in his awards section? Appreciate any help on this, it's a bit conflicting. Ravensfire (talk) 17:45, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User script to detect unreliable sources

[edit]

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
