When clicking on the link to the English Newspaper Custom Search Engine, I now get an error message. It the site down?Schmidt, Michael Q. 07:48, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • The website is (actually "was") down. I have a free account there. For example, you have an account at Wikipedia/Facebook and the whole website is down. I have nothing to do here. It is working now. There is an alternative page, hosted by Google. Please change dse-->cse in the URL after clicking. Google's CSE URLs are blacklisted and they don't allow me to post links. In the URL. But, one needs sign in to Google account to use it. And you'll not get the list of indexed newspapers at the bottom. But, searching (the main thing) will work fine and you'll almost never get errors. In addition, you might get few ads from Google (the same way you get ads when you search in Google, at the top of search results). Google will show these ads there. Not me. In the my3gb search page, I turned off ads, and changed search results to 20/page and compact views so that one finds many results after first click.
If such errors continue, I'll ask an admin t Mediawiki Blacklist page to add the link there ignoring the blacklist at WP:INDAFD, WP:INDT --TitoDutta 11:20, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion regarding search tricks

[edit]

Hello people, I was just wondering if we could expand the section 'search tricks' in order to provide assistance to other people(s) to get absolute results for the specific key word they are looking for. Google seems to be shown flawed result. The result of googling 'ABCD' might not be same for all people living world wide, probably depends upon the one's own search history and his/her universal profile made of 'internet using history' and hence search results accordingly one's likes and dislikes. Visit this. It might seem to be biased in favor of DuckDuckGo, but as it may prove useful in order to help out other people(s) to find what exactly he/she is looking for, It can written as per Wikipedia neutral point of view. Just an effort to easily find reference(s) specially related to underdeveloped and developing places not given much weigh as it deserves in comparison to identical thing/process belonging to already developed places on web, not sure what factors depending on. People are free to use what they feel comfortable with. Nothing but just a suggestion. Thanks for reading. AnupMehra 19:00, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've only heard of Khoj.com (powered by google) as an Indian search engine, which sucks, of course. Mine primary concern was absolute search result(s) for a given key word not depending on some particular geographical place. And DuckDuckGo seems to be working. I was just willing to add some more lines after reaching general consensus into section 'search tricks' to suggest users to try DuckDuckGo to easily find references related to India. Recent days, it has been discussed by various reputed firms. DuckDuckGo on nytimes, on lifehacker, on PCmag, on TIME, on Search engine land. AnupMehra 20:42, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Length of article

[edit]

I think that this essay should also add something about the length of articles in India papers. In my own searches I've noticed that many papers tend to lean towards very brief 1-2 paragraph articles in many cases, especially when it comes to anything showbiz related, and those short articles are pretty much the equivalent of a 4-5 paragraph article in an American or European paper. I've seen a few people say that various newspaper articles are too brief to count towards notability, when really that seems to be pretty regular. (Although of course the articles will tend to be longer for political things and the like.) Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:59, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Added "Length of articles" sub-section under "Known issues" section. Sadly it took almost two years to do so. Anup [Talk] 23:25, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Clans

[edit]

@Sitush: I believe you can add something more in here, Wikipedia:Points_to_note_while_debating_in_WikiProject_India_related_AFDs#Clans. Thank you. Anup [Talk] 23:16, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mr. Guye, can you please tell me what problems you are facing while accessing searchindiannews.in? It's up and working. If you are seeing a broken webpage, try clearing your cache (Ctrl+F5 or Shift+F5, or Ctrl+Shift+F5). See WP:BYPASS for combination keys for different os and browsers. Thanks. Anup [Talk] 03:55, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed? It wasn't working for me before, but it is working now. Anupmehra, sorry for the hassle --Mr. Guye (talk) 21:15, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay. I didn't do anything though. May be it was a server side glitch for a while or browser cache thing. Glad to know it's working for you now.:) Anup [Talk] 17:42, 20 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
