Huh?

[edit]

I suppose that, on the Internet, nobody knows you're a bear. But what does this essay have to do with anything? If the intent is to say "don't poke other editors" then why bring bears into it? It seems like a pointless effort to make a cute redirect. Is there any pert of this that isn't already covered in WP:CIVIL? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 22:18, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basically its a good thing when someone is poking another editor, group of editors, or process for no good reason to say "Don't poke the bears", sort of a meme like Wikipedia:Don't delete the main page is a warning for new admins to not be too bold. MBisanz talk 22:26, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I never even guessed that that was the topic of the essay. I think it needs to be less obscure about its point. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 23:20, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I didn't write it, I just added the snarky picture. MBisanz talk 00:08, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose a possible example would be vandalizing an admin-centric board like WP:AN. You're directly poking the bear (in this case the bear is admins), which not a good idea if you want to continue editing, y'know? :-) --MZMcBride (talk) 23:43, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In which case, we need to make that clearer on the wessay. The 'This page in a nutshell' box could be altered to include "Don't provoke administrators" as the page in a nutshell message. Looneyman (talk) 14:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a sentence that explains it as such. I am not at all happy with this essay, even as humour or as a meme, as it is basically instructing you to "poke" softer targets instead of administrators, and I hardly see that as policy. I'm going to nominate this for deletion. C.U.T.K.D T | C 09:17, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? It's about not intentionally pissing off other users, regardless of whether or not they're admins. --MZMcBride (talk) 16:39, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Russian Metaphor.

[edit]

The paragraph about the metaphor made me laugh, though its not really funny. But since it mentioned Russia I instantly thought, 'In Soviet Russia, bear pokes you'. I just felt like telling, its a nice page Intouchwithbertj (talk) 23:42, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
