Arduino smart gardening kits

[edit]

I want to get serious about smart gardening using Arduino on my porch and deck. I’ve done something similar before using basic timers and tubes and pumps, but I like the idea of having a dashboard I can monitor in the cloud with all the temp, humidity, and moisture values. Looking down the line, I would also like to have a small robot on wheels using a water bottle for spraying, misting, and maybe identifying bugs and spot spraying them with water. There’s a lot of kits on the market that can do this, but which is the right one for beginners at home, but also with enough capability for advanced features? Damn, for a moment I thought you were talking about the Duino Elegies by Rilke. Although they are full of advanced poetic features, it's probably not what you were looking for. Have you been reading too many Ian M. Banks novels? How will you name your robot? For a bug-killer, how about Admiral Grace M. Hopper? :-) MinorProphet (talk) 00:12, 15 July 2023 (UTC) [reply]
My dude, would you believe it if I told you I own the Duino Elegies? I bought a beautiful edition back in 1992; I think I got it at Kepler's Books, where most of my books were from at that time. The honest truth is I've been interested in setting this thing up for decades. And I'm going to do it! I am, however, a touch worried about the robot driving off the balcony. And yes, I have been naming everything after Culture ships, why do you ask? I am currently typing to you from the Congenital Optimist. Viriditas (talk) 00:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Wer, wenn ich schriee, hörte mich denn aus der Engel
Ordnungen? und gesetzt selbst, es nähme
einer mich plötzlich ans Herz: ich verginge von seinem
stärkeren Dasein. Denn das Schöne ist nichts
als des Schrecklichen Anfang, den wir noch grade ertragen,
und wir bewundern es so, weil es gelassen verschmäht,
uns zu zerstören. Ein jeder Engel ist schrecklich."

"Who, if I cried out, would hear me among the angels'
              hierarchies? and even if just
one of them pressed me against his heart: I would be consumed in that
overwhelming existence. For beauty is nothing
but the beginning of terror, which we still are just able to endure,
and we are so awed because it serenely disdains
to annihilate us. Every angel is terrifying."

You must read my forthcoming novella, Gardening with Angelic Robots. MinorProphet (talk) 02:08, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
