The templates I mentioned

What do you think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:King4057#Testing_new_templates

They still need refining, but the idea is to make an AfC-like process for quick review of request edits that puts the burden on the COI editor to improve their submission, rather than enslaving volunteers to help them.

Hopefully this makes the bright line more viable for both sides. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 03:31, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Wonderful! It's definitely better written than the current templates. How long do you think it'll be until your ready for an RfC?—Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 04:02, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Huh, I wasn't thinking about it being an RfC-worthy event, but let me mull through the text a few more times first and polish it a little better. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 15:15, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right.

It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 00:09, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:19, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

GOCE mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 37 people signed up for this drive so far, 19 have copy-edited at least one article, about the same as the last drive. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, every bit helps; if you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!
  • Progress report: We're almost on track to meet our targets for the drive. Great work, guys. We have reduced our target group of articles—August, September, and October 2011—by about 44%, and the overall backlog has been reduced by 58 articles so far, to around 2600 articles. The biggest difference between this drive and the previous one is a stronger focus on large articles, so total word counts are still comparable.
  • Don't forget about the Copy Edit of the Month contests! Voting for the August contest has been extended through the end of the month. You don't have to make a submission to vote!

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Yutsi. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:24, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

FAR for today's

Hi, I just met you for the first time on the talk of today's featured article, announcing that you propose a review. Your timing could not be worse, the day an article appears is its most difficult day, everybody watching for vandalism (and very busy especially today, just look at the history). Feel free to look at the featured articles coming up by clicking on "archive" under it on the Main page, they are scheduled for September, better improve BEFORE they appear. They should be scheduled a week in advance, unfortunately that did not happen. - Do you know the basics, that normally nothing in the lead needs a reference, because all of it should be a summary of sourced facts? - I like you last statement "I'd much rather this article just be improved than delisted." - Good idea, don't even start a process later, simply improve right now, when it serves many readers, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:23, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for your response. I still think a FAR would be the best course of action, but you're right, it would've been better if it had been improved ahead of time. However, I didn't happen upon this article until it was on the front page. And I'm well-versed in Wikipedia policies and guidelines, but I wasn't aware that leads didn't need reference. Would you mind giving me a link to this guideline? I just assumed that they needed inline citations because so many articles do have inline citations in the lead. ❤ Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 17:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

MPLinksCA

There are so many more uses of CanParlbio than MPLinksCA it would surely be better to add the coding for the additional parameters to Template:CanParlbio. Other Canadian templates begin with Can or Canada so for consistency that is also better. MPLinksUK was renamed earlier to UK MP Links, and the MPLinksNZ template hasn't been used for new MPs for years, so the original naming convention seems to have been abandoned. 184.78.81.245 (talk) 16:56, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

In case you didn't know how to do it, I made ID an alternate parameter field name for parlinfo. See Peter MacKay for an example of using ID with the MPLinksCA template. Now you can request that MPLinksCA be renamed CanParlbio and all current uses of both templates will continue to work. Ask User:BrownHairedGirl to do that, as I think renaming to an existing name needs an Admin. You will have to do the /doc merge manually as Plastikspork added documentation info directly into the actual MPLinksCA template, which is wrong. 184.78.81.245 (talk) 18:19, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:23, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

New user name for Ericdamanstyle re: Eric Daman article

Yutsi Thanks again for the advice. I believe you are suggesting that the username used for this account implies that Eric Daman wrote the article to promote Eric Daman which may conflict with Wikipedia's general policies. I am not Eric Daman though I did set up the account on his behalf and wrote the article from that platform thinking that was what was supposed to happen. I work with Eric and found no article on Wikipedia about him though the Gossip Girl entries name him specifically and often. Would it be better if I use my own account (brianleeboyce) to submit the article for consideration? Please let me know what you think would be most pragmatic? Thanks! Hello! Due to WP:NOSHARE, it would be better if you used your personal account to edit. You can leave a notice on User:Ericdamanstyle that explains the situation and links to User:Brianleeboyce. However, if he wanted to edit, he'd be free to use your current account, assuming that he changes the password so you can't access it. Thanks for your cooperation! ❤ Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 14:38, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, as a side note, you'd be well advised to disclose your COI on your user page, so that it looks like you have nothing to hide. ❤ Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 14:43, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
