Thanks for your Yasuke Edit

[edit]

Regarding your statement yet they still did in honnouji, given that the Honnō-ji Incident wasn't a planned battle on Nobunaga's side, I don't particularly think it matters if Yasuke participated in combat at Honnō-ji Incident due mostly to the fact that the battle was forced upon them by way of betrayal, so it doesn't really subvert the notion that they weren't expected to go to war. However, Goza does sort of contradict himself in the sense that he also says that he believes Yasuke was Nobunaga's bodyguard, which would imply that Yasuke was expected to fight if only in the personal defense of Nobunaga. That said, good catch on the "military caste" bit, that was technically WP:OR on my part since I inferred that Goza was separating the actual samurai caste from those who were given samurai status from his statement 敵を次から次へと斬り倒す、欧米の人がイメージする『サムライ・ウォリアー』のような存在ではなかったはずで that Yasuke wasn't the samurai warrior that westerners imagined him to be. So, I just wanted to reach out and give you my thanks for correcting my slip-up as well. I think between the "not a samurai warrior", "he didn't lead troops", and the "Nobunaga's bodyguard" bit I had improperly inferred the caste distinction. No worries, I appreciate your frankness. My quip that he participated in Honnouji was not meant to argue against Goza's notion that he wasn't expected to lead troops in battles like a "legendary samurai" of the Western imagination, but to note a historical happenstance where he actually had to take up arms in defence of his lord. _dk (talk) 22:39, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
