Noel Cabangon

Hi Tiptoety, I am a young (yet hardworking) user/contributor from the Philippines. I am currently working on my Noel Cabangon article however, it appears that someone has already created an article for the same artist but was deleted sometime last March 2008. Obviously, I do not know who created it but I saw that whoever it was has comitted a copyright violation. I wonder if I can re-create this article. Please advise. Thank you and more power. Mabuhay! Renante Beron (talk) 08:45, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello Renanteberon. As the deletion reason states it was deleted on the grounds that it violated copyright and as such I am not willing to restore it in its current state or allow you to have a copy of the deleted material hanging around in your userspace. Though I am willing to email you a copy of the deleted material to allow you to edit it off-wiki before re-creating the article on-wiki. Please note that if you choose to do so, all the copyright issues must be adressed otherwise it will simply be deleted agian (though I see that not being an issue). Let me know if that works for you and I will send you a copy asap. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:50, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
I think that is a nice idea. Although I already have a different article for this topic, I think the old copy would help me further in re-creating it as well as understand the copyright issues so I can avoid committing the same mistake and avoid further deletion. I would like you to send me a copy of the deleted article but, can i post my e-mail address here? Hehe...Renante Beron (talk) 02:27, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Ooops, forgot to say Thank you!Renante Beron (talk) 02:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, great! It is probably best not to post your email address here, but instead go to your preferences and add your email there. That will allow me to email you via the email feature on the side bar, and will allow you to also email other Wikipedia users with email enabled. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:29, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Done. I'll wait for your e-mail. Appreciate it a lot. Renante Beron (talk) 02:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
...and sent. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Qrazy sale at COTW! Act now! Total liquidation!

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week! Last week we saw some good improvements made to Westside Express Service, while we also worked on a Coordinates Drive. I don’t know how many articles had the coordinates added to, but thanks to those who helped out. This week we have two more requests: William Clark of Lewis & Clark fame and the famed Oregon Bottle Bill. Hopefully we can work both up to B class. Click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Adios. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:58, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:43, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

AL2TB's Sockpuppetry

68.4.176.68 (talk) of AL2TB (talk) is using Dabby (talk) and Splat5572 (talk) which is considered multiple account abuse. --75.47.143.157 (talk) 02:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok. If you would not mind providing a little evidence (diff's) of the link between the accounts I will look into it. Tiptoety talk 03:14, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

A checkuser search would be easy to determine if two accounts was used abusively by this IP address which was recently used by AL2TB. --75.47.143.157 (talk) 03:29, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

1. I am not a checkuser, but instead just a checkuser clerk giving me no access to private information of any kind. 2. In order to file a request for checkuser you must provide a link between the accounts via evidence, so either way you are going to need to gather some kind of evidence. I am more than willing to assist you in filing a request for checkuser if you feel you have enough evidence. Tiptoety talk 02:18, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Edit warring at Product marketing

Hi, Tiptoety. I was just about to post a result on the recent case between Spinacia and 69.109.174.47 when you beat me to it. I have a bit of a concern with the outcome: It seems to me that Spinacia has been edit warring just as much as the IP and in full awareness of the three-revert rule (or else he wouldn't have known to report for it). Here are the diffs: 1, 2, 3, 4. This one also makes it clear he's still doing it. It seems to me like the right solution is to block both, not just the IP, but I thought I should check with you to see if there's something I missed. Thanks. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 04:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I did block Spinacia as well as the IP, though I guess I could have made that clearer at AN3... /me heads over there now. Cheers, ;) Tiptoety talk 04:17, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Ah, cool. At the time I checked, you hadn't yet. I guess I fell behind the times. Well, no harm done, then. Cheerio. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 04:18, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I was probably still counting the reverts ;) Thanks for the note (also, the IP has requested a unblock if you want to deal with that) Tiptoety talk 04:19, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tipotoety. I've responded to your "Oppose" in my RFA as you've misunderstood why the "Davnel03" account was blocked indefinitely last December. Please comment back. Thanks, D.M.N. (talk) 07:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

IRC

Is your IRC working? KnightLago (talk) 01:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

:( I am not at a computer that works well with IRC and dinner is in about 3 minutes. Email works great though and I can respond via my phone (here works too if you want). Tiptoety talk 01:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I was going to ask if you were going to tag those socks, but enjoy your dinner and I will take care of it. KnightLago (talk) 01:53, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Eh, you are more than welcome to though I really do not see the point, I tend not to tag unless they are indef blocked (as it tends to confuse user who click on the sock template and it leads them to an active account) or have quite the RFCU history, otherwise I can just direct a user to the RFCU subpage if they really want to know who the users socks are...but more power to ya! :) Tiptoety talk 01:56, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Too late. I'll remember that for the future. KnightLago (talk) 02:05, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
No worries, it really does not do any harm. Good work on the RFCU case BTW. Tiptoety talk 02:06, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, User:Accountzero was an account you just blocked after my AIV. He created a new account User:Accountonepointfive and posted to my talk page. I can submit a sockpuppet report. Rnb (talk) 04:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Ronosen RCU

Hi Tiptoety, I noticed you moved the Ronosen RCU to 'Completed Requests', but I don't see any action taken on it. It was the second case filed for Ronosen, as I was adding User:Gayatrisavitr to the first Ronosen RCU that was completed by Alison. Maybe I filled this second one out wrong? Should I have put the new request at the bottom of the completed part? Or? Thanks, priyanath talk 01:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

All that moving a case to the completed section means is that a checkuser has responded and either confirmed or denied the link between the users the request was filed on. It does not mean that any action has yet been taken on the accounts. You are more than welcome to add User:Gayatrisavitr to the request by placing the username with a short explanation under Alison's note and I will gladly mark it as relisted. Let me know if I can be of any further help. Tiptoety talk 02:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, that's what I did, I had added User:Gayatrisavitr to the request, except I put it at the top of the section. I've now moved it under Alison's note, and you'll relist it? Or should I relist? Thanks, priyanath talk 02:29, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Great! And I will relsit it, give me a sec ;) Tiptoety talk 02:30, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! And that really was a sec.... priyanath talk 02:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
And thank you for all your great contributions to the project, keep it up! Let me know if there is any other way I can be of assistance. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Just an FYI, I left a note for User:Sam Korn,[1] as the checkuser in this case. It looks like we haven't seen the end of Ronosen yet, and I'm not sure what the next step should be. Thanks again, priyanath talk 14:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for keeping me updated. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 18:15, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tiptoety - here you moved the above request to the "completed" column. However, I'd actually just added a new request to it and relisted; is there something I should be doing with the old one (noinclude tags?) to prevent it from showing up in the transclusion? I'm not much for formatting things.

Also, knock knock. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 06:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey Sarcasticidealist, sorry I missed you, you dropped me a note right as I was logging off. It looks like someone else already got to it, but for future reference you simply add {{subst:rfcua}} to the top and {{subst:rfcub}} to the bottom achieving your goal of having the previous case no longer transculde onto the RFCU mainpage, the thing is that is only the first step in archiving the request and the other steps are not so easy seeing as they must all be done by hand. I would be happy to walk you through the other steps or you are more than welcome to just drop me a note when you have used the archiving templates and I will just archive the request for you (I really do not mind). Oh, and "Who's there?" Tiptoety talk 01:49, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello again to those of the WikiProject Oregon Clan. Time for another new edition of Collaboration of the Week. Last week there was some good improvements to William Clark and the legendary Oregon Bottle Bill, great job to those who helped out. The IP thread you just marked as semi-protected, hasn't been. Just to expand on my view as expressed before; I don't think this should be protected for three reasons: the IP is dynamic, so will more than likely not be using that IP tomorrow, the blocked was of a limited length and not really worth doing a protection against and the vandalism seems to have ceased. Regards, Rudget (logs) 16:18, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Admins Tiptoety and Sandstein,

I want to thank Tiptoety for affirming that my edits were non-vandalism. BTW, if possible could you please urge user:Thegreyanomaly to show me ASAP, in black and white, which "chunk of reference" were removed(not "move") by me.

I would like to show you that user:Thegreyanomaly repeatedly made false accusations on me, here are the examples:

  • "IP vandal....It didn't quite read like this"[2]

(He senselessly removed the citation I added[3] and made the above nonsense comment, I later showed and let him read the exact quote from M. Goldstein account[4], I never stop him from adding more text from the same book. For example, I clearly told him "I raise no question on your edits"[5])

  • "(removing) tonne of citation", and
  • "removing large chunks of references"[6]

After I urged him[7][8] to point it out what chunk/tonnes did he refer to, until this moment(19 July 2008) the user still shows no evidence/weblink/screenshot how I removed "tonnes of citations"

Moreover, I can read even arrogant, and of course sophomoric, comment like this:

  • "I am a CAL student"[9]

Is he/she discrminating anon users which are not CAL students? I am not sure

On South Asia's talk page where this user failed to respond, I have repeatedly warned that all edits shall come with citation per WP:CITE [10], and further urged more editors to come to this messy South Asia. I have shown you above (or here) how this user removed other's citation while hypocritically accusing other editor(s) as vandals "per Wikipedia rules", now it is his/her turn to show me how I remove chunk of reference.

I myself all along edit wikipedia per WP:CITE, WP:BOLD and WP:COOL. Please kindly review my case and provide assistance in my future edits on wikipedia articles including South Asia. Have a nice day! 219.73.86.234 (talk) 03:07, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your comments but please understand my time is limited and at the moment I do not have enough to review your case to the extent I would like to so I am going to recommend that you try dispute resolution or ask for a third party to review your case. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 04:12, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
I fully understand your situation, if you have time please come take a look at (or even monitor) this South Asia article which really really needs more editors.

Hello. Just wondering what the story was about the semi-protection on this article. I've asked on its talk page, because I can't quite see it from the history. Could you provide some insight? I don't like to ask for unprotection until I know why it was protected in the first place! 79.66.90.252 (talk) 10:31, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

It was protected a few days ago due to vandalism. Tiptoety talk 12:51, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Well yes, but I was trying to go for more specifics, given that it didn't look like cycling IP vandalism or heavy IP vandalism at all as far as I could see. There's an answer at the talk page now though. Could just be that Wikipedia's changed a lot since I was last heavily involved; it's not how it would have been handled a year ago. Ah well :) 79.66.90.252 (talk) 14:20, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
Well there are not too many specifics beyond that there was vandalism on the article and so I protected to prevent any more. The protection should expire here shortly allowing you to edit. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 02:22, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks; I swear that I pressed 'protect,' and filled in the blanks, and saw it go through, and ... I have no idea why it wasn't actually protected. I blame Jimbo, as I always do for minor and easily-corrected technical difficulties. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 02:55, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Tiptoety...It has been two days since I put up the first template proposal for the proposed RFCU/SSP merged process, but I have not received any input or critiques on it. As you are one of the people who is involved with this project, I was hoping to see something. I would like to continue with the rest of the template suite but can not until I know that I am on the right track. Please go to SSP2 and comment.

Thank you. - LA @ 17:09, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Well the reason you are not getting much discussion there is because it really has not been open to the community yet, the proposal has been approved, but WP:SSP2 is really just a place for us to work on the techincal aspect of it. I would be happy to comment over there any ways. Tiptoety talk 18:35, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Please do. You and FT2 are the ones who are writing this up, I'm just helping by sorting out the template situation. If you both like the one template I have already written up, I will go on to do the rest.
Oh, could you do me a favor and slap a {{Talkback}} on my talk page when you respond here to let me know? I came upon your response by chance. Thanks! - LA @ 22:23, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

He is not using the tool rollback there, but instead the undo button. I see no abuse. Tiptoety talk 15:12, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks!

RFA Thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA, Tiptoety!
I am grateful for your confidence: My RfA passed by a count of 64/3/3, so I am now an administrator! Of course, I plan to conduct my adminship in service of the community, so I believe the community has a right to revoke that privilege at any time. Thus, I will be open for recall under reasonable circumstances. If you have any advice, complaints, or concerns for me, please let me know. Thanks again! Howdy ya’ll, its WikiProject Oregon Collaboration of the Week time! Thanks to those who helped improve Owyhee Reservoir and start some new Oregon newspaper article, we had four new ones. This week it is time for a Stub Improvement Drive. So select a Stub, any Stub, and try to improve it to at least a Start class. If you expand it by 5X, then think about nominating it at Did You Know so it can be featured on the main page. Thanks for giving your opinion in my RFA. I will always try to be careful and look around to see the big picture before I do anything. If you need my help for anything, just ask.

Ronosen, again

Hi Tiptoety, I just posted this message for User:Sam Korn - [12]. Keshub Chunder Sen comes out of protection in one day, so could you keep an eye on our friends there, and perhaps re-protect if need be? Thanks, priyanath talk 20:52, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I sure can, thanks for letting me know. Tiptoety talk 23:53, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I've also filed another checkuser request, at Sam Korn's suggestion: Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Ronosen (2nd case). priyanath talk 23:59, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I saw that. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 00:00, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Remember me?

Hi, I'm not sure if you remember me but you bocked me. Just for you to know I forgive you for doing so, you were just doing your job. But what gets me is this, I wasn't causing trouble. I was going by what the rules that I know. I was given no warning for moving back Matt Sydal since I was told by many people that what I did was in the right. Also the excuse you gave me about being warned. Well you were wrong on that part, because the above warning had nothing to do with Matt Sydal. It was about Category:Sacrifice, a user was deleting it without going through the process. There was no vote on a name change, there was no reason to delete it, there was no reason to create a new one. So you really held me on something you knew nothing about, but I just wanted you to know that I forgive you.--WillC 05:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Simply because I do not want to re-kindle a burned out fire I will just except your apology. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 05:41, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I just had to make my peace. I was angered by the block, and I just wanted you to know about it. I didn't want to keep it in forever.--WillC 05:49, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Not me? :)

Well, I really like it, so I asked RyRy if he'd make one similar. :) The colour's awesome, and mine was a bit dull. :D *pleads guilty but begs for leniency on the count of good taste* ;) PeterSymonds (talk) 09:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I left a comment on Winger84's talk page, in response to your question about his request for a checkuser. Radioinfoguy (talk) 04:19, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

And I have since removed the comment, since you appear to be determined to lie about the question at hand. You and I, as well as others, know the truth... could you be so kind as to admit it, and save the necessary individuals the time that it will take to run a Check-user? No? Okay, then, I have provided additional diffs on the request page. --Winger84 (talk) 15:47, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay...the CheckUser case has been listed and we will let a CheckUser decided who is right and who is wrong here. But please n more fighting on my talk page. Tiptoety talk 17:37, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

The Simpsons Movie

Thanks for that! It's been protected for over a year, when originally I only asked for a weeks protection! So it's definitely time to be unprotected. Gran2 08:17, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

You are very welcome, I really saw no need to have it protected that long... I mean what if an IP wants to constructively contribute. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 17:25, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Gerald Gonzalez

Regarding what you said to the sock, let me add one more thing: even if he argues and begs in front of us that he's not Gerald, his writing style suggest that he is; he capitalizes certain words unnecessarily, which is why I suspected him of being a GG sock... Yep, looks like I made a mistake. I saw the part that read "He did not get drafted..." and I read not further seeing as it failed WP:BIO, but after reading a bit more closely I noticed he did get drafted at a later point. National Beach Soccer Teams

I tried to create some beach soccer articles which you rejected commenting that they sounded like an advertisement. If you look at other beach soccer teams pages, you will find they are written exactly like my proposed articles, which were: Japan, Solomon Islands and Cameroon national beach soccer teams (29-jul). Beach Soccer articles such as Portugal national beach soccer team, France national beach soccer team and Iran national beach soccer team have all been accepted yet mine have not. I would like you to look at those articles and reconsider mine. 91.109.25.32 (talk) 17:17, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I am willing to create them for you, but they need to be re-written in a non-advert tone. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 17:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I am still confused why the other articles were created but not mine. Mine are exactly like them but you will not accept them. Why? 91.109.25.32 (talk) 17:28, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Good call

Thanks for doing that - Alison 19:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

No prob, I decided that making it an actual case instead of just having it laying around the RFCU mainpage was probably a bit safer (privacy) as we would be able to delete it from public view. Anyways, you are welcome. Tiptoety talk 22:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

request

Tiptoety,

If you're going to block me in the future (which hopefully will not be necessary, but then I didn't think this last one was either), please use one of the standard templates, rather than whatever it was you did here. this action came off less like I was being sanctioned and more like I was being mugged. thanks. --Ludwigs2 19:55, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Apologies for any intrusion the block message may have caused. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 05:40, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
no intrusion, and no worries (you gotta do what you gotta do, and I can't fault you for that). I just prefer things to be unambiguous, as much as possible.  :-) --Ludwigs2 03:09, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for weighing in at my RfA. I did not mean to make a POINT violation or disrupt the project, but as I just posted to Jza84, "it looks like a lot of users in good standing disagree, so I am going to shut up and take the criticism". Anyway, as you see in the template above, I am not planning to re-request adminship, so you don't have to worry. I am going to continue working in areas which don't require the tools, and just enjoy my participation in the greatest encyclopedia ever built. I hope to see you around in this work — and have a nice vacation! Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for remaining civil, calm, and reasonable throughout this whole ordeal. Much appreciated, Tiptoety talk 17:50, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Can you fix this?

I was blocked briefly last week when a user with the same IP number as mine created some mischief. I was swiftly unblocked. Now I'm not blocked from editing, in the sense that I can edit any of the articles I've created, etc., but when I click on my username this message appears: This user is blocked from editing Wikipedia indefinetly

This has caused confusion among my colleagues. How can this be fixed?Hohenloh (talk) 18:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Randy Orton

I think you did a big mistake by removing the protection from the article. Especially, with Orton injured, that attracts "IPs" to do some damage to the article. --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 04:00, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay, the proper way to handle it would have been to simply let me know there are some current BLP issues and ask me to reconsider, but please do not come to my talk page and yell. Thanks, Tiptoety talk 05:35, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Wait, what? I didn't come here to yell, I just wanted to let you know. Why would I yell at you? --  ThinkBlue  (Hit BLUE) 14:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh, sorry then. I guess it was the emphasis on "big" that made it come across as if you were yelling. Either way, no hard feelings at the page has been re-protected. Tiptoety talk 02:43, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Would you be able to semi-protect this page? It's under constant, regular (if a bit infrequent, 5-6 times a day) vandalism from IP addresses. Ironholds 03:26, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Semi-protected by PeterSymonds (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) Tiptoety talk 02:43, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, i'm concerned this user, who you have dealt with for sockpuppetry recently, is using sockpuppets again for vandalism. After I undid his edit here [14], a new account was opened to vandalise, User talk:Pig faced pratt, and the same article was vandalised with the edit summary "socks work don't they!" [15] That account was blocked. Since then Dodgechris discovered he was unable to use his main account and left this message on his talk page asking why he'd been blocked, even though no blocking of the Dodgechris account appears to have taken place [16]. I dont know much about blocking, but could this be that the ip of the vandal that was blocked also blocked his main account when he subsequently logged in? He doesnt only vandalise, but he has trouble taking on advice from others, and sadly doesnt appear to learn from mistakes.GGMoan 13:54, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

...sigh... it does appear that he has once again used multiple accounts in a abusive manner and as such I went ahead and indef blocked the account. Thanks, Tiptoety talk 02:57, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
