Holidaybreak plc article

[edit]

Hi there, I notice you removed my tag for speedy deletion due to advertising on this article. Having read the link you provided, I agree I was mistaken in placing it there. Mainly, the problem is I think only a section of the article is advertising, ie, the description of brands that plc owns. The article itself is uncited, partial nonsense but not bad enough to merit deletion.

I didn't want to delete or massively edit that whole section (Brands and Product Portfolio) without someone more experienced getting involved for fear of starting an edit war ... it has most likely been written by someone with some connection to the firm(s).

Not sure what the appropriate course of action is? write a proposed alternative in the discussion page for comment and then move it on after a few days?

Sorry to be a newbie pain, I've only really done small edits previously and that article clearly needs a major rewrite, which is probably going to antagonise the original authors!

Thank you!

Thank you, Thingg, for reverting vandalism on my talk page. Cheers! Maxis ftw (talk) 04:11, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

4 November 2008 (diff) (hist) . . Public image of Barack Obama‎; 05:42 . . (+1) . . Thingg (Talk | contribs) (*null edit* if it were to be included, it wouldn't be in this article as it has absolutely nothing to do with his political positions)

The article is not about his political positions. It is the about Barack Obama's public image and specifically his Origins and Identity on Race and Culture. Is it offensive to call him Biracial, is that something to be ashamed of?

User:Xelix

[edit]

when I tried to delete the article on User:Xelix I was told that my change was unproductive and vandalism, however it appears to me that the article could constitute libel, and lacks any sort of verifiability in contradiction of wikipedia's policies. I would like to ask that you therefore remove the article, and keep these principles of wikipedia in mind when evaluating similar situations in the future. If the accusations presented in the article are justified the original author may repost the article with evidence as to the authenticity of the information. I also question it's relevance to an encyclopedia such as this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.124.81.169 (talk) 06:29, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Backgammon history

[edit]

Can you please explain why you reverted my amendments to backgammon.

Tables is only sensibly phrased as similar to backgammon because there are so many more people who know of backgammon than they do of any other tables form. That is why I believe that it is stronger to say that Tables is a game of which Backgammon is the best-known example.

There is no 'proof' that Senet is a backgammon type so it is safer and actually better to say as I did 'there may be similarities'.

The same with the Burnt City reference - the board and pieces are clearly not actually backgammon-style so the proper statement is again 'there may be similarities'.

I would not have changed the wording without reason. I find a simple reversion to be unhelpful especially with no notation in the talk section of the reason. Can you tell me why the less precise wording is better.

I have noted that much the same sort of simplification occurs in other game articles as regards historic background. I find that H.J.R.Murray is usefully academic in much of his research as he avoids such statements as 'Senet is this or that' in favour of 'It is uncertain but Senet may .....'. Video in a BLP?

[edit]

There's been a lot of scuffling over at Thomas Muthee, though I think things are fairly calm now. One question remains for me, though. Where is the Wikipolicy that discourages direct linking to a (verified) video of the article's subject as a citation? Consensus there was that we don't have much in the way of transcript, and he's so contentious that I'm not going to argue it, but I'm curious for the future's sake. Regards. FangedFaerie (Talk | Edits) 11:13, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, none of them are self-published. There are a few online available via the churches he visited, and there are some DVDs made by a friend of his. I'm not sure how I feel about this issue. In a formal paper, for example, a viable, reliable source is allowed to be in video format, provided the citation is right. I realize the special problems we run into online, however, with YouTube and whatnot. Hmm... Thanks for trying to answer, but it leaves me with more questions than answers. It certainly gets hot and heavy on BLPs. Ah well. Regards. FangedFaerie (Talk | Edits) 00:22, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what "too big" would mean; you could have moved the page to Mouvement populaire ivoirien du Grand Ouest. No big deal, but it would not have required admin intervention.  Frank  |  talk  19:16, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you reverted my changed on the page on EML Kalev (M414)

[edit]

I changed the word minelayer by minesweeper what you reverted. Kalev is a minesweeper as it is intended to sweep mines however it was also capable to lay mines. "minesweeper" is also the word that is used in communication by the meremuuseum ("In the harbour you can also visit the minesweeper Kalev ...". This matches also the former name Binnenminensuchboot (inshore minesweeping boat) as what it served in the German navy before. If you agree to these arguments I ask you to repace the word minelayer by minesweeper again. /regards

Traditional Chinese Medicine edit

[edit]

Dear Admin,

This morning (11/14 around 11:30 am PST) I added several paragraphs to the "Traditional Chinese Medicine" wiki page. I am currently studying ancient Chinese history and culture and was struck by some of the detail left out of the "branches" category on the page. I have no personal vested interest in promoting either TCM or CCM, but I felt that given the visibility of TCM on the wiki page and elsewhere online that this would be a good forum to add descriptions of this other branch of Chinese medicine. The only criteria for deletion I can possibly imagine qualified my addition for deletion was the inclusion of two college names. I furthermore am willing to delete these college names for fear that they read like an endorsement. However, my intention was simply to provide a bit of voice for a very real science and underdog in the field of Chinese medicine. If you deleted the post for other reasons, please explain your reason so that I can edit the passage appropriately. I wrote several paragraphs, all of which is of an educational intent.

Thank you, Tim

Hi; can't figure out why you re-deleted my reworded restoration of "Theory of Underpants" material in article "Ken Keeler" after its original deletion by Scorpion0422. Thingg, Special:Contributions/LBZoeller looks concerning to me. Another editor at the subj artcile has "outed" Zoeller as an AHSA employee in an edit summary, and Zoeller certainly appears to be a single-purpose account. It looks like a low-level edit war is ongoing over the portrayal of AHSA as a gun control group, and Zoeller may be a polite POV pusher, trying suppress RS information that appears distasteful to current AHSA management. Just a heads up on what I've observed, since it looks like you've interacted with him before. Jclemens (talk) 21:42, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CoughPHP deletion

[edit]

i was working on an article for a web application framework called coughPHP. you deleted it, citing blatant advertising.

i am not part of the development team of coughphp, nor do i stand to make any sort of meaningful gains or notoriety if this (free, open source) framework becomes more popular than it is, i've simply done projects with it in the past and prefer it to other web frameworks. i merely wish to add it to the existing documentation/catalog wikipedia keeps of these types of frameworks.

if there's going to be an article about coughPHP on wikipedia in the future, what prerequisites have to be in place? how can the entry be more encyclopedic (and less advertising-seeming)? what sort of references would help back up its validity?

also, how are these pages allowed to stay under your criteria?:

thanks so much! Erikswedberg (talk) 02:34, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gaucho Theory Deletion

[edit]

You deleted Gaucho Theory. This was quite upsetting, mainly because I followed the guidelines and put a hangon tag in the page, and then was in the middle of typing a reason in the Talk Page. Yet, before I could even save my reasoning, you deleted the page, thus leaving the hard work of writing out a justification meaningless. Why do we have a hangon tag if you don't respect it? Furthermore, you cited vandalism as your reasoning, and there was none according to Wikipedia guidelines. You need to at least provide a valid reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wisehearted (talkcontribs) 03:31, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In your rebuttal to my statement, you didn't link to a Wikipedia guideline or offer any official reason for your deletion of this article. You also did my other concern, what is the point of adding the hangon tag so that one can offer a rebuttal on the talk page, if you are going to go through and delete the article without even reading the talk page or allowing time for comments.
Wisehearted (talk) 03:45, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, there was no vandalism, it was a well researched article... about something that had only existed for a few hours and was probably not noteworthy . It was not "blatant and obvious misinformation" or "page-move vandalism." [[4]]. The page deserves a full deletion process. --Phiren (talk) 04:08, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your reply is fair enough, but why couldn't you offer such an opinion on the Talk page before deleting the article? Is there no room for discussion on things on the actual talk page? It doesn't make sense that I need to come to your Talk page to discuss such a thing, thus taking away the opportunity from other interested parties to comment. Furthermore, you still haven't offered why you deleted it as "Vandalism" as this doesn't meet the Wikipedia definition of Vandalism. Also, why can you not leave the talk page if you see potential value in an article somewhere down the road, is it a rule that you need to delete the talk page at the same time as the main page. Surely, you must see how when you take a unilateral action like you did without communication or taking into consideration public comment, and fail to cite a valid reason, it looks more like censorship than like a genuine effort to keep non-valuable content off of Wikipedia.
Wisehearted (talk) 04:03, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, not that I really think it was that great of an article, but you deleted Born Into this with an invalid reason. We actually do have an article about the musician. I was about to decline the speedy, but you deleted before I could. --Elonka 03:33, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'd say restore/stub it. You also might want to undelete the Gaucho article. It didn't look like clear vandalism, and there was already an AfD going on it, so I'd let that run its course. --Elonka 03:40, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, good point. Well, if you'd like to leave it deleted, that's your call, though you might want to formally "close" the AfD. If anyone really disagrees with it (and I have no strong preference), they can always take it to DRV. --Elonka 03:52, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I only noticed it because I was curious about one of the few entries left under the A7 category on my admin "to do" list. I figured somebody must have been working hard to keep the CSD category clear, to have that few entries left! Was that you? --Elonka 04:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And yes, they're like potato chips, it's hard to stop at just one.  ;) And, once you get on a roll, it gets really hard to step away from it, especially because it fills up again so fast. Please recreate Exari. This article was still being built, this was flagged and I had asked to be given more time to address any concerns raised, of which there were none. I don't feel that 6 hours in the middle of the night is enough time to improve an article which I had stated would be improved. My aim was to provide a place for the various open source projects which Exari have been involved in, which is informative to Document Automation specialists.

--Iamthenewno2 (talk) 06:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I'm with Iamthenewno2 on this one, I don't think Exari was a good speedy candidate. It was pretty well fleshed out, it had sources,[5] the editor that was working on it had a long history of good contribs, and there was even an "expansion" tag on it. Personally, I would have declined as "Declining speedy, though if there is disagreement, try prod or AfD instead." So I'd recommend undeleting, or if you disagree strongly, userfying. --Elonka 16:56, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please re-create the page Stopka, Desktop search tool and return it into list of List_of_search_engines Desktop search engines. Before page creation I ask here Talk:List_of_search_engines#StopKa to add information. I protested cause my information is truth and your deletion hide this from others. You did not start discusion to check my info. No one told here that my info is a lie. Please return my info back --Vyemialyanchyk (talk) 09:36, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look at this one, and support Thingg's deletion. The page wasn't so much an article, as an advertisement. See WP:CORP. --Elonka 16:52, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. your point is clear, but I should start from some point and get the article better. I try to read A7 deletion reason attentive and I saw this: A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. This is article about software - so deletion according this rule is a wrong deletion. I propose you restore my article without adding it into the list of List_of_search_engines Desktop search engines till I make the arcticle better. --Vyemialyanchyk (talk) 17:49, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Night of Corruption

[edit]

Hello, I'm the creator of the page "Night of Corruption". I'm one of the members and I am here to inquire about you deleting the page. I know you are an admin and you thought that the page held no importance, but I felt that it was a decent way to boost my bands publicity. Everything I said on wikipedia was absolutely true about the band, so I feel it was somewhat necessary to help me and the guys out with it.

I ask if I may please re-create the page or if you can boot the page back onto the site and keep it on there to help the band out. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for your time. Bye.

You are correct that User:Treyert hasn't been banned (or even blocked) from editing yet, but this user has been confirmed to be a sockpuppet of banned user User:Jvolkblum. I noticed you were involved in deleting several articles because they were created by a sockpuppet. I am wondering why you would remove the base articles that all referenced historic sites that are awaiting article creation. Yes, the stated reason is that removal was due to creation by a creation by a banned user, however neither the articles nor the content would be cause for any administrative concern if not for the 'stirring of the pot' by specified editor(s). The Coming Home Network

[edit]

Thingg,

I have been discussing this page with another administrated, it was tagged hangon and you delete without notice.

Tell me what is not note worthy about the Coming Home Network. The fact that since is conception almost 2000 men and women who are ordained have at great personal cost (both financial and personal) have converted the Catholic Church through the fellowship and support it offers? Moreover, thousands of laymen have found the same through its members?

Or that is covers the internet with nearly 20,000 hits just through it name, most of which through secondary sources. It is reviewed weekly on TV and radio. That its founder and president and the Network are directly and indirectly sited through other Wiki articles. There is a problem here, in your use of notability. Article Trouble

[edit]

Hello, I am wondering why my article Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation will not meet wikipedia's requirementgs to stay online. I cannot find any other sources and I have to have this posted for a college assignment in sociology. thanks Tandon1 (talk) 02:59, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If I may barge in: According to the deletion log, the first time it was posted it was speedy-deleted because there was no indication that this group met wikipedia's notability requirements. The second time, it was deleted as a copyright violation - copyright violations are illegal and your professor would likely flunk your project outright. The third time it was deleted as "blatant advertising." You need to ask yourself "does this subject matter meet Wikipedia's notability requirements." If it does not, find another topic. If your professor insists you get an article on this topic into Wikipedia, then step 1 is to get the organization noticed by the press enough that it becomes notable, not an easy task. If your professor will let you do another article instead, you might consider joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Red Link Recovery and creating badly-needed articles. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 03:25, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

I see that you deleted the entry for Wheeltug Plc, the company that is developing the WheelTug for the Boeing 737NG that will begin being deployed on Delta Air Lines fleet of Boeing 737NGs beginning 2010.

As this company will be drastically changing the ground operation for airports around the world, how is it that this does not meet the guidelines?

Sincerely, and Curioiusly,

Aaron Bianco (Chovesh) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chovesh (talkcontribs) 13:59, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, and question.

[edit]

Thank you for restoring to the Wheeltug page to my section where I can work on it.

I'm actually glad you view it as 'very nearly' failing the notabiltiy rules. :-)

I tried to keep the article neutral and not promotional; however at present, most of the links are press releases by various companies - except for the very recent article by editor Frank Markus of Motor Trend magazine. [9]

These releases were all tied to what the company is doing, and that is where I get back to the 'notability' issue.

WheelTug Plc. is introducing a technology that will radically change the way airports operate, eliminating tugs used to back the planes out of the gate, significantly reduce fuel consumption, and save weight by not requiring planes carry the fuel that they would normally need for taxi, etc,. The technology will save cumulatively $60K per month per plane (and will be leased for half that savings) and in order to keep the article from being promotional I did not include this 'monetary' fact even though net revenue is expected to exceed $200M/eyar.

The notability and visibilty of Wheeltug and Wheeltug Plc is expected to grow considerably in the next two years, with revenues (again, not mentioned in the article) expected to exceed $200M/year by 2012. This sort of revenue explosion in such a short period of time, is going to be very newsworthy, but may still not be enough to gain note in an industry which has been hit hard economicaly and has struggled for a very long time.

Futhermore, Delta Air Lines will, shortly before the delivery of the first units from WheelTug Plc, soon start including it in its own promotional campaign and empahsize not only the 'green' credibility it gains by being the only (and first) carrier to turn thier engines off for all ground operations, but also that they can get you out of the gate quicker as they no longer need to wait for a tug to push the plane backwards.

In particular, for military aircraft, by not having their engine on (in location like afghanistan) they won't be sucking in junk and causing FOD (Foreign Object Damage).

(quote) "However, I think that in this case, there might be enough material out there to put together a decent article on the company. "

It is expected that over the next 2-6 months that there will be several announcements by the company regarding several deals in the industry, and since this company will be changing the way an entire industry operates, I'm sure you will see why I see it's notability, even though its notability is not yet apparent to the majority of readers.

I would greatly appreciate your help or comments that would help me write a better entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chovesh (talkcontribs) 18:26, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know I'm not Thingg, but if I saw an article on this subject, no matter how well-written, that did not show that the subject itself was currently notable or had been notable in the past, I'd send it to Articles for deletion where it would probably go down to defeat. Future products can be currently notable, if they are mentioned enough in independent press. Your best bet is to draft the article on your own computer or, if notability will be achieved in the next month or two, as a subpage of your user page. Add references from independent, reliable sources as they appear in the press, then move the draft article to the main space after the subject matter becomes clearly notable. Wikipedia is supposed to be like a coincident or lagging indicator of notability, not a leading one. The fact that this product is run by a small, thinly-traded public company rather than an established, widely-traded one, plus the current economic crisis, increases the risk that this product, even if it is an otherwise-viable one, will not enjoy wide enough success to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Time will tell. Also, read Wikipedia's conflicts of interest guide, why care should be taken when writing about the future, as well as the rest of what Wikipedia is not. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 19:01, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd.

[edit]

You deleted Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd. as a csd-a7. I had included a reference from the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan which seemed like a good reference, and the company's size is an indicator of some notability. Hi Thingg,

I just saw that you deleted my article on Samuel Rothbort. This has caused much anxiety to me since:

1) I am a senior citizen who can use a computer-however it is still a daunting task.

2) I wrote the biographical information which is used on the website samuelrothbort.com I would be happy to rephrase it if necessary, or I could have the site administrator contact you as well, or you could just delete the paragraph in question and reinstate the rest of the article which I don't have a copy of.

3) It is almost Thanksgiving and this has really put a damper on my holiday in New York.

Could you please put the information back up since I don't think I can do it again?

Hi Thingg, I am hoping you can be of assistance. I am having an issue at the List of child prodigies article. Essentially I'm in a revert war with a handful of new accounts that appear to have a personal relationship with some subjects that I have removed from the list. I've thoroughly explained my reasoning and invited discussion, to no avail. This particular article is somewhat sensitive, because many edits reflect a biased personal view of the subject, including Proud Parents, narcissistic self-promotions, and the like. G11:Blatant Advertising - "Angel Sword"

[edit]

Hello, You deleted a page I created titled "Angel Sword" as G11:Blatant Advertising.

I am in no way affiliated with Angel Sword. I was researching purchasing a sword and was comparing some Companies. Most promenently: Albion, Windlass, and Angel. There was no Wikipedia page for Angel Sword, so I created one, using "Hanwei_(sword_producer)" as a template.

Everything I listed on the page was factual, and important information that someone would want to know if researching Angel Sword as a swordsmith. How in fact should I make this page so it is not seen as advertising? Kazens (talk) 17:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page in question was properly deleted under G11. It was nothing but advertising for a commercial producer of swords. Please read WP:CORP for information on what constitutes notability for a company; notability is one of the primary criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia.  Frank  |  talk  18:00, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thingg,

I would like to recreate the page that you have deleted[Independent Data Services (IDS)]. I am new to Wikipedia and all the jargons confuses me. Therefore I'd like to ask your opninions. While I rewrote the content of my page to suit the encyclopedic nature of Wikipedia of the below entry - it was deleted. I am not advertising the company nor its product but perhaps the way that it was written may allude to that in the first place. I want to provide a simple background idea about IDS. We have not that many links about the company and as such could only provide the some links related to IDS. Will the below information suffice and not considered as "Blatant Advertising"?

Speedy Deletion of 3D Solar

[edit]

I believe that "3D Solar receieved the 2005 Information Society Technologies Prize from the European Council for Applied Science, Technology and Engineering" is an indication of importance. Hi, I would like to ask you a favor. Could you please restore this file? I would like to see the original version of the picture and see if there is anything I can improve (I reedited an edited version of this deleted file and of what I understand the original might have helped me better). The deletion log says the reson was "missing file" but that seems unlikely to me as this pic has been nominated for FP status in the past. Diego_pmc Talk 21:51, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Restoring an Article

[edit]

How can I make the article on Lakesha Woods acceptable for Wikipedia? Could you please elaborate in detail so that I may have your feedback for future reference on other articles that I may write and submit to Wikipedia. Also Lakesha Woods has been featured in mainstream media and press i.e, Newspapers and television as well as radio, and a host of internet media outlets as well. Do I need to included some of those references to prove her notability?

My Userpage

Thingg, your opinion is appreciated

Hello Thingg, and first of all, thank you for your time. I am seeking input regarding my userpage. My userpage, and the header for the rest of my pages, reflects my personality, that is to say they are incredibly quirky. While this appeals to me, I would greatly appreciate the opinions of other editors I have interacted with on the site. So, as an editor I have come to respect, I kindly beseech you to place any comments, ideas, or opinions you may have on the subject of my userpage or page navigation header bar on the corresponding talk page. Thank you friend, and cheers! Scapler (talk) 17:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am questioning your speedy deletion of my article, MorningStar Education, under the CIO terms. There are numerous similar articles on Wikipedia concerning private entities and businesses: Morninstar Communications, Score Learning Centers, etc., etc, that are neutral in tone and have links to the corporate websites. Why are these articles not considered advertisements, but mine is?

Thingg, can you give me some background on Wikipedia:Featured article review/Crab Nebula? It's still listed at WP:FAR (and at the article talk page), as a redlink, so this is a strange situation, and whomever asked for it to be deleted left the job half done. Dayton Article

[edit]

Hi --

I was wondering why you undid my changes to the dayton, ohio page -- concerning chocolate covered potato chips. I have att'd 2 reference articles.

As to their importance in dayton culture -- they fill the local stores during the holiday seasons. I am a born-and-raised daytonian and they are consumed much more than, say, egg nog. Way more relevant than the pizza companies listed in the article.

Hello Thingg, I just wanted to drop by to remind you that the use of the undo button opposed to rollback would have probably been a better course of action to take here. As WP:ROLLBACK states: "The 'rollback' links provided by Wikipedia's interface provide a standard edit summary of the form "Reverted edits by X to last version by Y". These should be used only to revert edits that are clearly unproductive, such as vandalism; to revert content in your own user space; or to revert edits by banned users. Reversion for other reasons should be accompanied by an explanatory edit summary, and must therefore be done by a different method." - but you already knew that. Even though we often think of this as applying only to user with the Rollback userright, it does apply to administrators. Cheers! Tiptoety talk 04:36, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hi thingg, some time ago you deleted the Furtherfield article; i'm not quite sure why, but in discussion with other people we have reworked the article and included more references (print and online) and links which we hope will satisfy you that it is indeed a worthy entry. you can see the rewritten page here: User:Frock/Furtherfield

i've been looking at the deletion review information & it says to try & resolve the issue with the admin who deleted it before submitting it for a review. so i'm asking you now to please have a look at the new article & if you think it's ok now then could you please advise me how i should go about reposting it - do i just recreate the page or is there some other procedure when an article has previously been deleted? hi thingg, i am wondering why the page was deleted? the california honeydrops are a relevant band not alone in the context of african-american musical history. with their recent tours and release they have gained media interest based on their special focus on the origins of blues, soul, r&b. especially interesting is their choice of instruments which again is paying respect to the history of music. please let me know what i should change to be able to submit info about this band to wikipedia. thanks, willow Cahoney1 (talk) 22:12, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The New York Women's Agenda

Dear Ms. Thingg

You labeled my article as "blatant advertising." The New York Women's Agenda is an umbrella organization of women's groups who provide services to all types of women in the New York area. We are not for profit. We don't sell anything. We do not promote any political point of view. We merely provide a forum for women to get together.

Obviously I did not write it correctly. Can you suggest a way I could write it so it would pass muster?

Thingg,

I was sorry to find my work deleted. At first when I viewed my Austrian art associate Gottfried Helnwein's wiki (he is my contemporary and I know him personally), it was how I got the idea to do one for Charles Wildbank. I know his personal staff created his page.

Do you recommend that I just build mine up on user:wildbank page and then have some professional use it as reference to create my art page like Gottfried Helnwein's? Could you also tell me why his is not deleted? It would help me understand.

PlayStation 2 & number of bits

[edit]

I noticed you reverted my edit on PlayStation 2. I may have missed something along the way (and that's fine) and just wanted to make sure I understand completely. The CPU in the PS2 is a 64 bit PS2 (that has, what I've seen, generally been accepted in the article, and what it currently says). However, the console itself is part of the 128 bit generation? IOW, the generation and the CPU are different in terms of "number of bits." Just wanted to make sure I understood what you are saying with the edit summary. Thank you. --TreyGeek (talk) 04:05, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm with you on the confusion of how to classify the PS2. I'll admit I haven't done extensive research on where it really fits. (I've got other projects higher on my priority list.) I just scanned through the contents of the PS2 talk page and didn't see any discussion on the topic (only on the CPU). I'm going to leave it alone for now (low on my priority list). Perhaps one day I'll find time to research it and figure out what is best. Thanks for the reply. --TreyGeek (talk) 05:42, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This lake in Switzerland is called Lake Morat on Swiss maps. Three quarters of its shores speak French. "Lac de Morat" is the official name in Switzerland. In English Language writers and journalist have always used the name Lake Morat and not at all the German one. Only the city has a bilingual appelation : Murten/Morat. The word Murten is not English and not at all convenient for the lake.

Hi. The depictions were added to the articles by a user with an agenda. No other depiction of any of the personalities other than Ali and Husayn have been made in history and none are anywhere to be found in books or on the Internet, other than those added. How are my edits to The Abbott Family article unconstructive? I was taking out the false and non-encyclopedic information. The way it reads now it says Katherine Chancellor married Dina Mergeron and they are the parents of John "Jack" Abbott Jr. (which isn't the correct title of that characters page). There are further inaccuracies you've reverted it back to such as John Abbott having an affair with Diane and fathering his own grandson and others. I also changed the order so the family tree came first and took out the living arrangements at Abbott Manor because they aren't at all encyclopedic and are outdated. So what was it you found unconstructive?Rocksey (talk) 00:36, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Corey Schell deletion

[edit]

The original editor of Corey Schell (it's an autobio) is not pleased with the deletion and responded in my page because I had left him an autobio notice. Then, after you speedy deleted the article as A7, I deleted the original redirect with improper casing as G8. The OP came to me thinking I had deleted the original article. Please read about his at User_talk:Alexf#Yes_I_know and reconsider restoring to his user space for him to rework, if you choose to do so. For the record, I agree with the A7 speedy but would have no issues in userfying it for him to rework. The COI issue bothers me more than the notability at this point but if he can assert enough notability, it may be OK. Thanks. -- Alexf(talk) 03:02, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You shouldn't remove links that existed long before a speedy A7-deleted page was created. Amir Bagheri was correctly redlinked on FIDE World Chess Championship 1999 and FIDE World Chess Championship 2000. Deletion of 'Ceàrr

[edit]

Hello Thingg. Most of the article 'Ceàrr was edited by me, so deletion was no good idea, as Ceàrr is only a copy of the text but not the history. Would you please delete Ceàrr and restore/move 'Ceàrr to Ceàrr ? Thanks. --Ilion2 (talk) 17:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. 'Ceàrr should be deleted now. It was a typo, the author is informed, so it is IMHO totally useless. --Ilion2 (talk) 06:26, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As there was neither a reply to this nor a result I asked successfull for speedy deletion. --Ilion2 (talk) 17:53, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help on dealing with the hoaxer. If you have questions about this ongoing problem, please see User:Barneca/watch/societyfinalclubs. Edward321 (talk) 00:44, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no Barbaro hoaxer. How can editors who are adding validly sourced material that can be checked by anyone be hoaxing. That is rediculous. You also can not block a good faith editor, that is corruption and abuse of power- there is no basis for it?4.143.236.17 (talk) 01:06, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible you could protect this page as the indef blocked editor is copying your talk page and mine and replacing his page with it see here thanks. BigDuncTalk 14:15, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help

[edit]

I never heard back from you regarding the imdb question I posted several days ago. I really would like you help. I'm relatively new to wiki but my experience has not been very good the last few days. i feel I have alot to add to the community but based on interaction with a user I'm not sure I can be apart of it. I know you are an admin so I really would like your help--as I dont my question is now beyond imdb i dont think what has occurred here is fair. I don't care if you fix the situation but I think its important you are at least aware of it as it really is not fair. Please let me know how I can discuss this issue with you. Thanks for you time.(Movieman2008 (talk) 02:02, 28 December 2008 (UTC)).[reply]

Regarding your response to the above user, could you please let me know how I'm being "unreasonable"? What part of my "reaction" do you find objectionable? If I'm going about things the wrong way, I'd appreciate a heads up. I am trying not to be bite-y with him. —Hello, Control Hello, Tony 02:44, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment about amendments

[edit]

Backgammon history

[edit]

Can you please explain why you reverted my amendments to backgammon. I have not yet seen any response from you.

RE: Removal of section of Republika Srpska

[edit]

Dear Thingg,

I saw your comment that my editing of Article: Republika Srpska - Section: Criticism of the Republika Srpska right to exist was labeled as vandalism. I would like to kindly point out that whoever wrote that section has done nothing else but spread vicious propaganda, with mind you tons of spelling errors. As you may have noticed the section only references a single source related to ICJ in which ironically the ruling was exactly opposite of what the section insinuates. Second paragraph is particularly offensive reference free, and furthermore a map which was uploaded, has no bibliographic information indicating where it was pulled from. Perhaps just like the rest of the lies, it was self created by the author.

I have been a user of Wikipedia for a long time, and I have great respect for its services. However I had to edit/remove an offensive and even more importantly undocumented lie. Moderators and administrators exist to help and assist with vandalism so I thank you for doing your job, but I would really appreciate it if you give it a second look.

p.s. For now I'll mark the section as disputed.

My sincere regards, onyxig —Preceding unsigned comment added by Onyxig (talkcontribs) 23:31, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

21st century reverting

[edit]

Is there a reason for reverting my edit for the 21st century? I'm talking about adding authoritarism on the Issues and concerns section. It was sourced, even though most of the section isn't. It was sourced by The Guardian... I don't get it. Plus it's enough to take a look at all the demonstrations around the world to see that it is a real concern. Why not improve it, but simply delete it? Why does it classify as vandalism? I'm starting to have really big concerns about Wikipedia because of this.

P.S. After you reverted it so fast, I saw that the page was the same, and I thought that there was some error, so I just added the thing again, but then Shirulashem deleted it again, so it's not up there anymore. You have it your way, and if this is what Wikipedia is like, then I have better things to do. 89.123.4.134 (talk) 12:24, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

section

[edit]

Hello Thingg,

I am having issues with putting "disputed" in the Republika Srpska article. In fact I posted my complaints for the article section on the talk page, but I keep getting warnings from I dont even know who: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Onyxig So a million dollar question, when one wants to label propaganda as disputed its called censorship and vandalism? Can you please help me straighten out this nonsense. All I wanted to do is mark it as disputed, and leave it for potential removal through consensus as you recommended.

my regards Onyxig (talk) 18:59, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanksgiving and request

[edit]

Thanks for the reverting of 99.135.162.128's edits to my talk page. By the way, I don't want to sound like a grass or something, but 99.135.162.128 has been reverting the ZP Theart article several times. ZP is the vocalist for the band DragonForce but he has achieved no notability alone, which means he's not notable enough to have his own article at Wiki, and that's why his page is a redirect. 99.135.162.128 has been warned several times for his revertings, but he always blanks his talk page, and I believe that's the reason he hasn't been blocked yet. Couldn't you block him to stop this revert war? Other suggestions are welcome, as well. Thank you, Victor Lopes (talk) 02:15, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the problem is that the final warning has already been placed in his talk page for three times, I think..but no problem, I'll go for WP:AIV next time 99.135.162.128 appears. Yeah, to be an admin seems quite a hard job...I don't know if I would deal patiently and kindly with vandals, new users and "why did you delete my page?" guys =P Thank you, Victor Lopes (talk) 02:34, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I can handle it. I'm always happy to do something new at Wikipedia, anyway. And since he tried to warn me as a vandal twice, things have got a little...personal. Oh, and your short message in his talk page sounded really threatening. I mean, I like it when people go straight to the subject, skipping things like "hello..." RE: Disputed

[edit]

RE: Disputed - Formatted - sorry for last post

[edit]

Thanks for taking the time to look at it.

> I think his problem is that you aren't being entirely clear on what you think is inaccurate. All you've basically done is say that it is propaganda and you haven't given a good reason to remove it. The sentence you complained about on the talk page is, from what I see, merely repeating what a judge ruled. And the rest of the section is simply reporting that some people don't think the republic should exist and tells why they don't think it should (and the article doesn't give undue weight to this view, it just mentions it briefly).

I apologize for not being too clear, so I will write a point form bellow of whats wrong with it:

- Image uploaded -> No citation of where it is obtained, and where the facts are for construction of it.
- ...because of their opinion that the initial creation of a separate entity for the Serbs of Bosnia was based on harsh ethnic cleansing policies and genocide -> I am familiar with these accusations, from the second war party, just like I'm familiar with the accusations pointing in other directions. However I dont see that the reference says that anywhere.
- Despite the evidence of widespread killings, rape and torture elsewhere during the Bosnian war, especially in detention centers, the judges ruled that the criteria for genocide were met only in Srebrenica. -> This sentence is indeed a part of the SF article, and I have failed to see it. It is written by another opinionist with no references to back it up, something similar to good old BBC/CNN type of coverage and objectiveness.

> Again, I don't really care whether the section is in the article or not, but I fail to see any good reason to remove it. Thingg⊕⊗ 23:31, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

- With these clarifications hopefully something will change. However the point is that this 2-3 sentence section is not doing anything constructive to that small country/entity, and its interesting that although wars have existed for 1000s of years, I dont see any "criticism" sections on any other country in wikipedia (that I have so far visited), and yet there's plenty to be said...

Thanks for the help, and I hope soemthing changes, but whatever the last step is, I won't bother anymore

Your recent deletion

[edit]

Please be sure to check the history carefully before deleting a page, even if the author blanks it. You deleted Jeremy Wolf, and said "Speedy deleted, blanked or requested by creator" for the deletion reason. Actually, you should have deleted it and said "G10: Attack page" for the deletion reason. -- IRP 17:52, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Polanski Rape

[edit]

Please view the talk page for Roman Polanski before making edits to the page.

Wikipedia pages are not designed to chart every single event or occupation a person has ever had. They are however supposed to chronicle those things for wish a person is most known . Roman Polanski is well known for being a rapist. There is even a movie about this. There are many other famous people who are also very well know not just for there careers but also for events in their personal lives. One is OJ Simpson. He is very well known for his crimes and this is listed in the very first sentence of his page as well. Would you change that? Will this be changed 30 years from now when people have decided to forget about how much they talk about it now? Polanski is no deferent in that his crime is something he is well known for having done. This is an important and pivitol aspect of his character that still has an influence on his life and the lives of others. I am sure that at some point in his life he held a job other than those listed in the first sentence of his page, or even anywhere on his page, but those things are not as important or relevant to him and how he is known. Being a rapist however, is very relevant to how he is known, and as such should be included in those things for which he is most recognized. I suggest that if you feel this moment is not relevant to the fact that he does not return to the states, was also relevant to the fact that he did not even accept his academy award, and that if he does return to the states he will be arrested then perhaps you do not understand the impact that such an event has on a life. Rape is an event that never leaves a person. They will live with that event for the rest of their lives. It becomes an integral part of who they are and everything they do, regardless of being the rapist or the person being raped. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.122.108.47 (talk) 19:02, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
