KKE Architects page edits

[edit]

(I have moved this request for help to your own talk page)

How do I remove the three hidden categories from the KKE Architects page I contributed to today? I looked at the Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum page, and the content and tone is similar to the KKE Architects page. Can you help me get the warnings at the the top of the page removed? Stacy Maureen (talk) 17:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will answer here very soon.  Chzz  ►  17:29, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops, sorry, Chzz, didn't mean to step on your toes. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 17:33, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all, Vicenarian. This popped up as a helpme, hence I moved it over here and thought I'd answer as best I could. Cheers.  Chzz  ►  17:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Re. KKE Architects
I expect that you are asking about the two notices at the top of the page, which say "This article is written like an advertisement" and "This article needs additional citations for verification."
The code that produces those notices is right at the top of the page, if you edit it you will see this;
{{advert|date=July 2009}}
{{refimprove|date=July 2009}}
Anyone can remove those tags, but you should not do so until you think that you have fixed the issues.
The two issues are interlinked in this case; the article does look like an advert, mostly because it contains a lot of information that lacks independent reliable sources. For example, it details many key people and all the branch locations, but that information is not sourced.
In order to have an article on Wikipedia, the subject must meet the notability guidelines. The simplest, most important one is the general notability guideline, which says a subject needs significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. That carefully-worded phrase explains quite a lot;
'"Significant coverage"' - such as, a number of news articles about the article topic - not passing mentions
Reliable sources - well, this is defined in some detail in WP:RS, but the essence of it is - something that is generally trusted - such as the BBC, CNN, The New York Times. Books are good, too. Blog-sites are rarely reliable.
Independent - we don't use primary sources, such as the companys own website, or paid reviews, or anything like that. We avoid press-releases. We want secondary coverage - other people independently writing about the subject.
The references currently in the article do not meet these requirements.
I also have concerns over a conflict of interest. Are you involved in the organisation? If not, please disregard this paragraph; if so, there are two other documents that you should read carefully; WP:BESTCOI and WP:BFAQ.
Best of luck,  Chzz  ►  17:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm finally starting to understand how this works. There is a lot to know.

Although I'm an independent contract employee at KKE, you would probably consider me an employee. Someone had started a page on KKE called User:Jisher/KKE Architects, Inc. (TAKE TWO). Should I make edits to that or do I need to declare my conflict and post the KKE Architects page to Wikipedia:Requested articles?

Before I can do anything, I need help with removing my IP address' block. Stacy Maureen (talk) 19:04, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback

[edit]
Hello, Stacy Maureen. You have new messages at Bubba hotep's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I tried to edit my username but was blocked before completing the process. I remembered that creating a new account was another option. Now my IP address is the problem.

KKE is mentioned with a red link on a number of other pages, so I'm trying to create a page with basic company information. I can try to source the key people and branches listed. I used the Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum page as an example of information to include; it's the same type of information as their page. This is a difficult process. Stacy Maureen (talk) 18:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, let's assess the facts. You used to be User:KKEmarketing, you created an article called KKE Architects. You were asked to change your username by Airplaneman (talk · contribs) (here) in the nicest possible way, and he had the grace not to report you here for having an unsuitable username. You were also advised of the rules on conflict of interest, spam and promotional edits. However, eleven days later, instead of waiting for your username to be changed, you returned to the article to carry on your edits. I blocked you using a rather useful message about the business FAQ. If it wasn't clear to you by then that this shouldn't carry on, it should have been crystal when your username change was [declined because you were blocked. That was the situation, but now you have created another account (against our policy on multiple accounts) and now you wish to carry on making changes to an article for a company which you work for. You can contest the block, as always, with the {{unblock|REASON}} template and it will be independently assessed. – B.hoteptalk19:07, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I very much understand this all looks bad, but I wasn't trying to hide anything. When I was told by Airplaneman to change my name, I did some reading and thought I was being told to change the name of my article. I thought the Inc portion of my article name was in violation. He was really trying to help me, but I misunderstood the problem. This is the first time I've tried contributing, so I'm unfamiliar with the term, which is no excuse. Then when I finally understood it was my username, I tried to change that. The time frame issue is due to the fact that I was distracted by other issues inbetween correspondences. I have three young kids, so I'm not always at the computer. I have read the conflict of interest pages more indepth now. Although I am not a KKE employee, I am an independent contractor for KKE, and you would consider that a KKE employee. Is the contest you mentioned my only option at this point?

You are considered to have a conflict of interest, yes. It changes little that you will not be able to contribute to that article – under this or any other username. If you contest the block, you will be expected to convince another administrator that you wish to contribute constructively to other articles (unconnected to KKE) – if that is not your intention, then this isn't the place for you, sorry. – B.hoteptalk19:39, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked

[edit]

This is the statement you left at the other account:

"I am still hopeful that my unblock request will be accepted. I am a Marketing Coordinator at KKE Architects. I will not contribute to the KKE Architects article or related articles. From carefully reading all of the WP:BESTCOI information, I understand that I was in no position to directly post the article on KKE Architects. I should have suggested the article idea on WikiProject and disclosed my conflict of interest. In moving forward, I will follow the WP:BESTCOI. I will use the appropriate talk pages to make suggestions to articles within my conflict of interest. I wish to change my username to “Stacy Maureen” to follow the appropriate naming conventions. It will only be used by me; I have been the only contributor under the “KKEmarketing” username."[1]

On the proviso that you stick to this, I will unblock this account. The KKEmarketing account remains blocked. Please be aware that anyone may reblock in the event of further edits against conflict of interest guidelines. Happy editing. – B.hoteptalk22:51, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!!! You've made my day. Stacy Maureen (talk) 13:05, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

KKE

[edit]

Hello Stacy Maureen. I'm sorry to see that you got in this muddle :(. I'll be glad to help rewrite the article. I just don't have the time to do research, so your help in that area would be appreciated. It's a good idea- you give some links in the talk page and I incorporate it into the article. I'll monitor the article and its talk. Please contact me if you have any questions! I don't want any confusion over KKE to happen again. Regards, Airplaneman talk 16:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

After thinking about it, this might be pushing it a bit. Be careful not to get into KKE too much! Considering that you are not directly contributing to the article, I think editing the talk page to give helpful links will be fine, although I do urge you to be careful. Again, please don't hesitate to contact me (on my talk) if you have any questions or concerns. Airplaneman talk 16:25, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
