Issue

[edit]

With the issue of the username, that was actually a learning experience as I had no clue that I could open two accounts and with the preferences open, change one of them. That is something that I can defend though. I would be willing to have a checkuser performed on me should that ever become an issue. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:21, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Smart Alec books

[edit]

Section 6 of WP:NB refers to academic books, published by a university or other educational insitution, not educational children's books. I don't think these books appear to come close to any of the general guidelines, either. --SquidSK (1MClog) 20:24, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

[edit]
Thank you for voting in my RfA, which failed with 21 support, 39 oppose, and 11 neutral.
This is highly belated, but I wanted to thank you for your comments in the RfA discussion. I do apologize for taking so long to reply to you, after the failure I laid back for a while for several reasons and WP took a backseat. I just dove into another article and am working more diligently on WP. I have taken your concerns about Disambiguation pages and have been working to improve my skill set regarding them.

Comparison between Roman and Han Empires

[edit]

The article has also been nominated for AFD, [1].Teeninvestor (talk) 22:47, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Comparison between Roman and Han Empires. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison between Roman and Han Empires (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Katowice, Transport section

[edit]

Thank you very much for your help. I need to ask you about one thing. User LUCPOL is adding informations not related to Katowice to Katowice article and isn't writing in english when asked for it. Also I think he/she wants to accuse me of vandalism which is not true. What can I do about it?--83.242.88.168 (talk) 19:18, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This user removes data from article Katowice. This user is Poles, I writes in polish language. He understood. PS. I (fast) translated to English language on he's discussion page. LUCPOL (talk) 19:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

RFA

[edit]

First off, I'm not going to wish you anything because you have the wishing of half of the site. Second, what would you think of if I was to run in the next few days. SoWhy has expressed interest in me, and I know you had reservations. Since then, I have been involved in a quite contentious SPI (who knew?) and I've also tried to be active on ANI. The ANI thing, along with deletions have been something that Secret encouraged me to do before I start a new RFA within a few days of the new year. I guess the question is, what do you think? Talkpage problem

[edit]

Hello Soap. Thanks for looking into my talkpage problem. I had already 'fixed' it by greatly reducing the size of my text. At least it saved without getting a 'filter' message. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year--220.101.28.25 (talk) 14:34, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation against User:UrukHaiLoR

[edit]

As you have commented on a report on AN/I in which I have been involved, I'd like to inform you that I have filed a sockpuppet investigation against UrukHaiLoR (talk · contribs). This account very likely is a sockpuppet of Top Gun (talk · contribs), who has been blocked indefinitely for "lying about sources, in addition to a whole host of other sins".

You have seen that it would be nearly inconceivable for an editor with more than 6000 edits to simple decide to vandalize the administrators' noticeboard. Thank you for your contributions in this discussion!  Cs32en  03:03, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Football in England

[edit]

Not a quote, condensed around 3 pages into one sentence. It is a rather interesting idea that has come out of some research and has been adopted by gender historians as part of their study into victorian manliness (You just have to avoid tittering about the concept). Thank you for sorting the typos. --Narson ~ Talk 23:04, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

Yes, there have been some things that I created that were deleted (some of my own articles I have nominated for deletion). There is some ambiguity to the rule of "notability" when it comes to WP:ATH, which most of my articles fall under, and many of the articles I've written I thought were notable enough under that guideline, however they were not. Furthermore, I have uploaded some files that were deleted: at the time, I was unaware of the policy, as I also worked at another wiki where the rules concerning copyrighted files were different and I assumed they were relatively the same. I was wrong. Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it. Alex (talk) 20:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AbuseFilter

[edit]

Soap, I see you were the last one to change Filter 12. It's currently generating false positives, see [2]. Looks like the filter objects to the bot "blanking" those pages with a category that includes the word "crap". I'm unfamiliar with the AbuseFilter, could you take a look? WJBscribe (talk) 18:01, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was the last one to edit it, yes. I just want to make clear that my changes to the filter aren't the reason for the false positives. In fact, I was paring it down somewhat in response to a similar false positive issue on a user's talk page. I have added an exception for bots today, but I think a more intelligent solution will be needed in the long run. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 18:16, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No criticism implied in my asking you. I just don't know anything about the filter and thought, if you couldn't fix it, that you'd at least know who the right person to ask is. Thanks for adding those exceptions. In future, if I see a filter that's generating false positives, where should I raise this? WJBscribe (talk) 20:08, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you said on the FFD for this crawling bug animation that you'd previously seen it on other places, like messageboards and the like. I guess you probably didn't see my response to that – wouldn't that imply that the image isn't the uploader's own work, and therefore a likely copyvio? I haven't found it elsewhere on the web myself though. Could you perhaps point to some place where you've seen it in use so we can check the copyright status? Cheers, --Fut.Perf. 22:17, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
