JSTOR Survey (and an update)

Hi! Just a quick update that while JSTOR and The Wikipedia Library discuss expanding the partnership, they've gone ahead and extended the pilot access again, until May 31st. Thanks, JSTOR!

It would be really helpful for growing the program if you would fill out this short survey about your usage and experience with JSTOR:

Recent sock accounts

I think you missed one of the accounts you were blocking earlier: I love creating accounts (don't want to link). Cheers. EvergreenFir (talk) 00:24, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, done.  —SMALLJIM  15:16, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

not sure if I messed something up. I've got tooth extraction in the article Dental implant and saw it was red. Thought I'd missed something and created the redirect page - not sure what your plan was but I did this before seeing the deletion log. Ian Furst (talk) 03:57, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

No it's my fault. I dealt with User:Lesion's deletion request without giving it the attention it needed - in particular failing to notice that the request had already been turned down. I apologise for the inconvenience. If you're reading this, Lesion, you need to start a WP:RM process as explained by the message you removed – it's obviously not an uncontroversial change.  —SMALLJIM  09:00, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
I've got no concerns about the deletion (I also believe it's uncontroversial, just a house-keeping item, Lesion and I do a lot of the work on dental articles), I was just concerned I'd overridden something beyond my WP skill-set. I can change the link in the article or leave it as a REDIRECT. Doesn't matter to me. Ian Furst (talk) 10:27, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Ah, ok. In that case since I have no opinion on the matter, we're just left with Courcelles' refusal of Lesion's first request: "Speedy deletion declined. This might be contentious enough to use WP:RM protocols." Since there's no rush, if you jointly decide you do want the move it's best if one of you does a WP:RM just to be sure. Best,  —SMALLJIM  10:47, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

I note with some amusement that tooth extraction is yet again not deleted. Where is this contention? Also, Smalljim, I resent the implication that I am trying to hide something by deleting a message on my user page which is clearly marked as inactive. I left a msg on Courcelles' talk page, which went unanswered, presumably because of lack of availability, although other admins (Kww) are clearly not above ignoring summons. Apparently they feel they are too important and their decisions are above any questioning from the community. Fair enough, as if we needed any more evidence that most admins are just on a power trip and log on here only to get their fix of bullying in compensation for a dissatisfaction with their place and position in the real world. Hence I nominated the redirect page again. In absence of any objection, I fail to see why the redirect is not deleted. Lesion 19:29, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

I could explain fully, but you give me the impression that I would be wasting my time. Instead I'll just say that if you don't want to go to an RM, just nominate it again. Refer to this discussion and any others, and hopefully the third admin will do the right thing :)  —SMALLJIM  20:04, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Northern Blossoms Honey was deleted

Yes I'm new to Wiki but I believe I have some knowledge of early beekeeping in Saskatchewan, Canada. My grandfather came here in 1910 & was instrumental in founding the Saskatchewan Beekeepers Association, The Saskatchewan Honey Coop & the Saskatchewan Honey Marketing Board. Many imigrants to SK were familiar with beekeeping one or 2 hives in their homeland, however SK offered opportunity for great yields of honey, if one could survive winters of -45 C. I would welcome the opportunity to work on this article. Could you send back the article with the objectional material in red or deleted? Rob 198.167.167.254 (talk) 05:56, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

You're referring to History of "Northern Blossoms" Honey which I deleted, on request, on 30 March. There were two reasons for the deletion: firstly it was copied directly from http://www.hamiltonhoney.ca/history.html, which makes it a potential copyright violation. There is a process to go through to have such material accepted (but that wouldn't be relevant now). Secondly, there was no indication that the subject of the article was notable enough for inclusion here. There's a third issue, too: if you are involved with the company in some way, you must carefully consider our policy on conflict of interest. It's always best if someone who is completely uninvolved writes our articles about companies etc.
However, having said all that, there is potential for the addition of some general information about beekeeping in Canada: I see that we already have articles on Beekeeping in the United States as well as in some other countries: see Category:Beekeeping by country. If you want to write about this, you'll first need to assemble some reference material from reliable sources. The best way to start would be with our guide "Your first article". It used to be easy to write for Wikipedia and have your articles 'stick' - these days it's not so easy, I'm afraid. Let me know if I can help further.  —SMALLJIM  22:51, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
Or, for something simpler, you could add a general sentence or two to Saskatchewan#Economy, along the lines of what's in Alberta#Agriculture and forestry. But you'd still need to reference it properly if you want to be sure it'll stick.  —SMALLJIM  23:11, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

50.240.235.141

Hey Smalljim, 50.240.235.141 is at it again with the addition of non-existent Category:Television series created by Doug Langdale here. And the re-submission of blocks of unsourced content in spite of your push to start the article from scratch here. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:34, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I've given a three month block. I don't think anything he's added can be trusted, so I'll revert the lot.  —SMALLJIM  18:55, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello Smalljim, I am messaging you because of a situation that needs attention and I see that you are active. User:Pyfisch, who has made very few edits, seems to be testing a bot, User:FischBot, which has caused incorrect category changes. The user has reverted the changes, so we can AGF, but I can find no record of a bot approval request. Can I ask you to look into it? Since I did not know what forum the issue should be reported to for a speedy reply, please forgive me taking the liberty of asking you personally. Thank you, BethNaught (talk) 18:28, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Hey Smalljim, I tried to PING you, but not sure if it worked as the first time I used all uppercase and it didn't link you. I fixed it, but not sure if that actually notified you or just fixed the hyperlink. So this is just a notification in case the ping failed. I took your suggestion and just made the change, since I felt that most in the discussion thought the proposed text was better. But we do have some contested points that I'd like to get your input on if you can spare the time. Thanks Morphh (talk) 01:49, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of article on First Attorney Consultants, Ltd.

Hi Smalljim, After noticing your deletion of my article on April 21, 2014, I edited the article yesterday to add content explaining significance. The edited article is not showing up, and I am not sure if that is because it was deleted again or because of normal delays in processing approval of articles. Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Joefacl (talk) 15:12, 24 April 2014 (UTC) Thank you, JoeFacl

Joe, setting aside the reasons for the second deletion of the article (as First attorney consultants) for a moment, the important question you should be considering is why you want there to be an article on this company on Wikipedia. Your username suggests a relationship with the company, so I've put our standard message about conflict of interest on your talk page. Regarding the article, you've done the right thing by requesting its undeletion.
If that undeletion request is unsuccessful and if, after carefully considering all the aspects, you really think that you should write an article on this company for Wikipedia, then I'd suggest that you submit it via the Articles for Creation process. However, there are plenty of other useful things you can do here if you want to help. For instance you could have a look at Category:Law firms of the United States and see if you could improve any of the existing articles there. Hope this helps,  —SMALLJIM  16:10, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Disruptive Editing...

I am very interested in the popular music genre pages on Wikipedia, but have recently noticed some disruption. Two editors were recently banned - Pulum34 and Andrewbf for making (very similar) unsourced edits and refusal to communicate, but a third editor, also making very similar edits (I have compared the edit histories of the three) is now causing similar problems. I do not know if they are all one and the same editor, but the pages concentrated on and types of edit made are strikingly similar. The latest editor is called Laratadelaciudad. I have tried to communicate with him/her on the relevant Talk page, but the editor blanked the page after my first attempt. I have tried again, so far with no response. Some of the edits seem OK, but the ones made to, for instance, the Acid House page, are not I believe within Wikipedia guidelines. I would say the same about many others. I hate to contact you about this, but I think Wikipedia is a very special resource, very much "The People's Encyclopedia", and disruption like this does it no good at all. I would be grateful if you could look into the matter. Thank you.

UPDATE: I have now had some communication from the editor Laratadelaciudad and a positive discussion may be underway. I would be glad if you would monitor the situation if you have the time.

(86.131.95.227 (talk) 00:18, 28 April 2014 (UTC))

Thanks for your help here, I'm pleased that you managed to extract a response from this editor, whether it's the same person or not (he/she seems to be more communicative than the others). I'll keep an eye on this, and feel free to alert me to any similar egregious examples you come across.  —SMALLJIM  09:48, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I actually remember the first time I ever saw a colour television. It was Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. Does that date me, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesBWatson (talkcontribs) 21:30, 1 May 2014‎

"Veeery interesting... but shtupid" – how did you know it was a colour TV?  —SMALLJIM  21:49, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
I had always thought that part of the humour was that, while many of the cast did totally crazy things, Rowan & Martin were presented as a pair of very conventional men, conservatively dressed in grey suits somewhat dead-pan in their presentation, in a way rather like a pair of straight men to set off against the rest of the cast's craziness (even though no one could really call Dicky Martin a "straight man"). All of a sudden I found that their suits were in fact bright green and red, and then in the next scene bright yellow and blue, and so on. Suddenly, the whole character of the humour changed. Later, when I went back to seeing it at home, on my family's black & white set, it kept the new, zanier type of humour for me, even though I could no longer see the thing which was responsible for defining the humour in that way. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:08, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Nah - those suits would have been the result of NTSC :) I probably never saw it in colour, and I really only have vague memories of the show, such as that German behind the potted palms and those little doors that they all kept popping out of – though I can't even be sure I'm not remembering seeing later excerpts. I suppose there are extracts on YouTube: I wonder how its American humour holds up today compared to Python. Or Round the Horne.  —SMALLJIM  23:19, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Joseph Michael Levry/Naam Yoga/Universal Kabbalah

Dear Smalljim,

I see you took down 3 pages that took 9 hours yesterday of trying to make things neutral and cite correctly. I understand your points and am fine with the Universal Kabbalah page being down for now. Joseph Michael Levry and Naam Yoga was up for several hours yesterday. Can you put them back up without the Universal Kabbalah link? Or can you put them back in a draft form so I don't have to recreate all the work done yesterday and change what you believe I should change?

Thanks so much.

With best regards,

Robert — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robert Mirshak (talkcontribs) 16:45, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi Robert. I'm sorry, but your additions to those articles were very far from neutral and encyclopedic. I appreciate that this is probably your first attempt at writing for Wikipedia, but you need to understand our house style. Our articles are written from the point of view of an intelligent, interested but unbiased observer – see our policy on Neutral point of view. Our other rules are summarised at WP:5. Have a look at some of our good articles too – Yoga is a relevant article that demonstrates our house style well.
I assume that you've read and understood the guidance about conflict of interest that I posted on your talk page, but that you've decided to have another go anyway. You can retrieve your additions to Joseph Michael Levry and Naam yoga from the page history (link at the top of each page), but please don't try to reinstate them without extensive re-working, because they will just get removed again by another editor. It may be best to make your proposed changes to a copy of the page stored in your user space, and then ask for opinions from other interested editors – WikiProject Yoga would appear to be appropriate. Oh, and in case it's relevant - stick to using one account! Hope this helps,  —SMALLJIM  22:11, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

1abacada socks

Hi Jim. Just letting you know that I've restored the tags on a couple of 1abacada sock userpages that you deleted - to my mind it's preferable to keep the pages as a record in order to populate Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of 1abacada. If you disagree, I won't restore any more that you delete. All the best, Yunshui  12:05, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Difficult issue, I admit, Yunshui, but I had a short offline discussion with DoRD yesterday and he agreed with my suggestion that we should delete any pages that the vandal had tagged himself, in accordance with WP:DENY. I'm keeping a list of them all, in case it helps.  —SMALLJIM  12:10, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
I never get the memos... Okay; my hands are back in my pockets where they belong. Cheers, Yunshui  12:13, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Well you couldn't have known, and I'm a newbie in dealing with socks and therefore it's not impossible that I'll make a few c*ck-ups. So thanks for the note – do keep an eye on me! Best,  —SMALLJIM  12:24, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
One thought, though - in most of these cases, the self-tagging sock has removed a pre-existing sockpuppet tag. What's the rationale for deleting the page entirely, and not simply reverting to the previous tag? Yunshui  12:37, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
OK I'll go through and look for these - I did check the page histories, so there'll not be many.  —SMALLJIM  12:42, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
It just occurred to me that I'm saying, "most of these cases" when in fact the only ones I've seen are those which I've edited myself (my watchlist is set to pick up any pages that I edit). So whilst "most of the cases I've seen" have that issue, most probably do not. If you want, I'll fix them myself; easier for me to find them than it is for you, especially if you've done a lot of them recently. Yunshui  12:48, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
There was only one left on my list; think that's all of them sorted now. Sorry for the additional workload! Yunshui  12:51, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

You just pipped me to that one too! But there is one more that I'll reinstate.  —SMALLJIM  12:53, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Tagging provides useful information to those unfamiliar with the case. For example, 1abacada is not unique in his behavior, and his socks shouldn't be confused with someone's else (some socks share the same IP range). His socks normally need a global block, as he is mostly active on Chinese wikis, but stewards won't know local CU results (not all his socks are listed in his CU investigation page). Finally, we need to know the severity of abuse when rangeblocking. Currently I would tolerate his trolling because his IP ranges are wide, and there are a few good users there, but this balance might change to blocks and granting block exemptions. Materialscientist (talk) 22:29, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. I'll think on this and perhaps reply later, though reading between the lines it sounds as if with each of his outbursts he's digging his own grave a little deeper.  —SMALLJIM  23:17, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

FredericL, yes that looks like a nice little article you've written there. My only concern is Notability: Carlucci doesn't seem to have been the subject of "significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources which are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject", as is required by our notability guidelines (see WP:BASIC). I'd suggest you work on that aspect and then submit the draft via the Articles for creation process. Deletion of RongXiang Xu

Hi Smalljim, I am relatively new to Wikipedia editing. I noticed that RongXiang Xu's Wiki page was deleted on May 17. I would like to know what issues could be addressed to restore the page. I understand that there are certain unreliable sources. I am still trying to figure out what is considered a reliable and unreliable source. I do believe that there are some reliable sources. Another issue is the fact that Xu has a large number of Chinese documents. I'm not sure how to address that since certain people may not be able to read Chinese and verify whether it is a reliable source or not. Also, one final thought, Rong Xiang Xu is the CEO/owner of MEBO Corporation. Would creating a MEBO page be better? (At least given the nature of the articles on RongXiang Xu's page.) Is a page on a corporation have different scrutiny? For instance, not having to be "notable". Your response would be greatly appreciated! Waverider76 (talk) 16:16, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

As far as I can see, I haven't had any previous involvement with this article. You should familiarise yourself with our guideline on identifying reliable sources and our guidelines on notability: WP:N (general), WP:BIO (for the person) and WP:CORP (for the company). If after you understand these principles, you still consider that an article is appropriate, then you can draft it via the Articles for Creation process. You could also have a look at WikiProject China to see if anyone there may be able to help or advise you. Our Teahouse is another place where friendly advice is available. I hope this helps,  —SMALLJIM  11:03, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi there SJ, AL "here",

can you please see that something positive is done to this person's page. I am absolutely going crazy with this countryman of mine that keeps treating this page as a blog or personal journal, writing stuff like "his humbleness captivates all", "He is very kind with the press" and similar. Also showing their "mastery" of the English language, we have charmers like "Manuel Cajuda was very strong option for Carlos Queiroz subtituir the National Team"; oh, and much much more worse, they remove all references, only "allowing" external links to stay.

This "user" has already had two accounts called just that, User:Manuel Cajuda and User:Cajudafan, don't know if the person ruining this article is Mr. Cajuda himself, a relative or a girlfriend. If you notice, there is a great number of IPs starting with 188, and all have "contributed" to the article in the same fashion. I have tried to address them in Portuguese just to be safe, was completely ignored.

I managed to get good protections for some pages after getting in touch with User:NuclearWarfare, but the last time i contacted this admin about this matter received absolutely no feedback, have no idea why. Please do/suggest something, am going over the hill with this matter.

Attentively, from Portugal --AL (talk) 02:03, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

AL, on the basis that this may be the start of another outburst of vandalism, I've semi-protected the article for two weeks. But two points: (1) you should carefully read through the changes made by the IP and if there is any valid information in there that can be reliably sourced, you should add it to the article (using your own words); and (2) remain civil to other editors, even if they are vandalising articles (or even if they insult you).  —SMALLJIM  09:58, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the protection. Regarding your tips: 1 - nothing is good from the previous version, only POV and no references. And did i mention he removed the previous five in existence? I did; 2 - yes i should, but it's very difficult. I have contacted another admin on several occasions about this, urging him to block me if he sees fit, i know there are guidelines here that must be followed but i just can't seem to adhere to them, hence i have decided to leave WP on 12 July 2014, the vandalism and the fact i just discussed (me not being able to follow most of the rules) being too much already.

Cheers, thanks again --AL (talk) 12:13, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey Smalljim, user above appears to be testing the system. He has on three occasions introduced circular redirects ([1][2][3]) at List of Regular Show characters. The third instance was after I explained to him why this is pointless. I'm bringing it up to you since you appear to be the last admin to warn him. Also on one recent occasion, he appears to deliberately misspell the main character's name, which he fixed in a subsequent circular redirect. (Rolls eyes.) Hoping you can keep an eye on the page since I'm almost at my limit for reverts. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:53, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Unblock on hold

There is an unblock request for a block you placed, at User talk:Y1p6hj. I totally agree with your block, but it looks to me like just some kid who was playing around, and his/her claim to have no intention of doing the same again may well be genuine. In my experience, unblocking in this sort of situation often leads to an ex-vandal becoming a constructive editor, and the worst that is likely to happen is that he/she vandalises again and is blocked again, and this time stays blocked. I am strongly inclined towards a WP:ROPE unblock, but any opinion of yours would be welcome. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 10:01, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

One always wonders if one more warning would have made any difference. But yes, it sounds a bit more genuine than most such requests: it'll be interesting to see what happens, if he reappears at all.  —SMALLJIM  10:42, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Reversion of edits on User talk:120.147.152.163

Just wanted to let you know that when you reverted 120.147.152.163's blanking of his talk page, it was in contravention of existing policy. Users are allowed to delete any warnings they get on their talk page, as it constitutes explicit notice that they received the warning. If I'm not mistaken, this applies to block notices as well. Also, I'm not talking about your revert of his frivolous unblock request, as that was a personal attack on you. Novato 123chess456 (talk) 12:45, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping an eye on me, but I'm not sure which revert you're referring to (it's helpful to include diffs in cases like this). This edit was notification of a new block that I imposed because of this vandalism made just after the previous block expired, and this one was notice that talk page access had been revoked due to the personal attack you noted above. Neither edit reinstated warnings or notices removed by the vandal.  —SMALLJIM  14:28, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
They WERE the same message, and the quick succession of notice being removed and added again made me think that it was some sort of edit war. Sorry for the miscommunication. Novato 123chess456 (talk) 21:23, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

I am nonplussed that you eliminated my complete sight which had been going for some years until I added an excerpt of the book Cien Anos de Soledad, for which I acknowledged the author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Of all other texts I had the complete copyright especially the article about the window display of Lyons Corner Houses for which I was the chief designer in the fifties. I had many interested searchers for that insertion who added more material. Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust

Hi Not suer if I'm doing this right, I'm quite new to Wikipedia. Just wondering why the edits we make on the Pennine Care page are completely deleted. The info about the area the Trust covers was inaccurate and services provided out of date. Hopefully it won't be reverted back to that version again. I've just reverted it. You need to discuss your concerns on the article's talk page, per our guidance on the Bold, revert, discuss cycle. You should also read our guidance on conflict of interest, which basically says that someone closely associated with a topic has to take special care to ensure that their interest does not overwhelm the need for the encyclopedia to be neutral and unbiased. I'm happy to discuss further on Talk:Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, if you want to make a reasoned case for your changes there.  —SMALLJIM  08:45, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

Not sure, Frecklefoot. I seem to have stepped into something unexpected here. My second message on his talk page was only supposed to be about removing the template ("don't template the regulars"), but it was, I admit, not clearly worded and it seems to have been misinterpreted. I'm still not clear why the page was deleted - looking into that now. Do you know any of the background?  —SMALLJIM  15:43, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
No, not at all. At present, it just looks like vandalism. It doesn't help that SNAAAAKE!! doesn't leave edit summaries. If something constructive is going on, I'd be fine with it. But I don't have any context at present, just that you said you were going to unrevert your revert of his blanking of the page.
I really don't know who SNAAAAKE!! is, but is he just a socketpuppet of Niemti, a user who gets blocked often? He uses the same image in his userpage. — Frεcklεfσσt | Talk 16:45, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

You have no WP:AGF whatsoever, that's why your edit history is packed with snide reverts, mostly aimed at anon-editors. And why you have a block history for 3RR abuse. It all adds up to the same thing - no interest in collaboration. Faith starts with a conversation, you didn't even do that, you reverted 30-odd articles without comment. That's not the sign of a good editor. 82.8.252.13 (talk) 18:11, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

COI - yes, but based on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Philip Papaelias, he seems to be a cut above the usual POV pushers, and may possibly become a valuable contributor if he's made aware of our rules (if it's him, of course!). I'd be interested to hear your opinion.  —SMALLJIM  16:25, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
He could be valuable as you say, but I don't know how to persuade him to work within our guidelines. Dougweller (talk) 18:33, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
At present he seems to be a single-issue editor in a fringe topic about which he is very enthusiastic. I'm not a WP administrator. It is not about myself. Am the editor, for my community leader whose name is John D. Garba — Preceding unsigned comment added by John D. Garba (talkcontribs) 11:28, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Note: In view of the above response, I've asked the editor to stop using this username, per WP:IU.  —SMALLJIM  22:03, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

thank you SmallJim, you have been of great help, i will go through and if i find any problem, i will get back to you with a question — Preceding unsigned comment added by John D. Garba (talkcontribs) 10:31, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

May you please delete this user: John D. Garba i created. I would have to create my own. Thank you for the advice — Preceding unsigned comment added by John D. Garba (talkcontribs) 11:12, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Happy to help. If you haven't done so yet, you should now change your username before making any further edits. We don't delete old accounts, but I'll block the John D. Garba account from editing in a while.  —SMALLJIM  11:49, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello, this user seems to have bypassed the edit block. He is now making the same edits under 2600:100e:b002:123b:28fd:bb46:e4a:9602. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sfstormy (talkcontribs) 23:41, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Recommendation to revoke talk page access

Heya Smalljim, it might be a good idea to once again revoke the talk page access at User talk:194.81.223.1. The IP, who is obviously behind TDFan2006 and HoshiNoKaabii2000, continues to use the IP talk page as a storage facility for TDFan's voluminous and useless test edits. Danke! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 13:05, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

Well spotted, Cyphoidbomb – don't tell anyone but I omitted to tick the box when supposedly revoking talk page access back in April. However, that oversight has provided some interesting info (now RevDeleted to prevent potential re-use), and I've revoked access for logged-in users through that IP address now too.  —SMALLJIM  20:09, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
I shan't tell a soul. :) I posted an addendum at the SPI because I think it is worth memorializing that the word "Unovia" kept appearing in Aberdeen editor TDFan's sandbox and that it also appeared on the talk page of the Aberdeen IP. May I trouble you to swing by and vouch that you saw the data before it was deleted? I wouldn't wish this to be a disputed point. It's the most recent addendum. Thanks! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:40, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
I get your point, but I don't think there's any need - the word still appears in several of the edit summaries. That's enough, isn't it?  —SMALLJIM  22:20, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
I was actually about to come back to write, "but if you think it's a stupid idea, forget it", but you saved me the embarrassment. :) Yeah, that'll work. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:30, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

IPs at Jahanabad, Pilibhit

Thanks for taking action. Spared me an unpleasant trip to AIV. TLA 3x ♭ 16:12, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

No problem - he was at it earlier today too.  —SMALLJIM  16:13, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
More IP-hopping. I'm afraid you may have to enact a range block. TLA 3x ♭ 16:15, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
Too wide a range, I think.  —SMALLJIM  16:16, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
The Last Arietta, you could try leaving some of his edits for a while so we can see what he does next. Ta!  —SMALLJIM  16:20, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
It's obvious (s)he's spreading this to new (for him/her) pages. This unfortunately looks like 'Pop the weasel'. I can't imagine only three hours on the range would be excessive collateral damage. TLA 3x ♭ 16:31, 4 July 2014 (UTC)
I've asked for help at AN/I. It would probably take me about 3 hours to work out the appropriate range block, but I'll have a go.  —SMALLJIM  16:34, 4 July 2014 (UTC)

Back. TLA 3x ♭ 22:23, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Yup. I've just reapplied the rangeblock and referred Gogo Dodo (who blocked the two active IP's) to the AN/I report. Let's continue discussion there - I get the feeling that these outbursts may become a regular occurrence.  —SMALLJIM  22:34, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for deletion of promotional userspace

I was about to tag User:MICROMZ for deletion as a promotional page with a promotional name, but you already got it! Keep it up. Piguy101 (talk) 16:09, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Sorry to have spoiled your fun ;-)  —SMALLJIM  16:11, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Bug in twinkle

Looks like it to me. Amortias (T)(C) 18:30, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Ah - I was just about to post to your talk page. I haven't come across this error before, though I use TW extensively. I guess we should keep an eye out for it happening again.  —SMALLJIM  18:34, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
(Sorry for jumping in but) it's not a bug. Drrinc's talk page was created by Smalljim, when he posted a warning. Then when Amortias nominated it for deletion, TW warned the page creator (Smalljim). 2Flows (talk) 09:11, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Call it an unpatched error then :) User talk:Drrinc isn't "my user page", as the message states; but the circumstances that caused this aren't going to happen very often.  —SMALLJIM  11:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Revision deletion

Hello, thanks for blocking User:67.187.1.208. Would you mind deleting the summary of this revision by him, which is grossly insulting me? Thanks, 2Flows (talk) 22:51, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

OK, done.  —SMALLJIM  23:13, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your edit.

Thanks for editing the article for me. 86.129.13.205 (talk) 12:41, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

No problem. There are benefits to having an account and building up a history of good edits (hint!)  —SMALLJIM  12:46, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Yes, but I had a problem with people in the real world creeping on my account. I guess it's been long enough now that I could return to it, although some of the ways I handled things when I was younger make me cringe. I've been editing anon, on and off, since all this was fields :) 86.129.13.205 (talk) 13:06, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
What about Wikipedia:Clean start?  —SMALLJIM  13:13, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm considering it: I never developed any bad reputations or anything, and never really had on-wiki issues, but I'm thinking about starting a Wikipedia club at my school, and I wouldn't want students to see how I handled things when I was younger. I think I need to wait until I can work out how that would work before I register an account that I'm happy to use in that role, since I assume I can't have a seperate account for that role. But thank you. 86.129.13.205 (talk) 18:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
The education side isn't an area in which I've been involved at all, but just in case you haven't come across it yet, Wikipedia:Education program would probably be a source of useful information. Good luck.  —SMALLJIM  19:01, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
