Some questions about the Aceh language

[edit]

Hello there,
My name is André and I'm studying Linguistics at the University of Leipzig. I had a presentation about the Aceh language today. While going through the data that I got from A Grammar of Acehnese (1985, by Mark Durie), we noticed that some things were not clear. To answer these questions, you just need to tell me, whether one can say the following sentences in Aceh, meaning, whether they are "proper Aceh" or whether they are wrong. The spelling is a bit different from what you are using, but I hope you understand the phrases.

Are these phrases correct Aceh:

  1. Gopnyan teuntèe geu woe. ("He/She will certainly return.")
  2. Gopnyan teuntèe meungang geuh. ("He/She will certainly win.")
  3. Gopnyan teuntèe geu cok atra nyan. ("He/She will certainly take this thing.")
  4. Lôn ngieng moto nyang geu bloe lé ureueng nyan. ("I saw the car that was bought by this person.")
  5. Lôn ngieng moto nyang ureueng nyan geu bloe. ("I saw the car that was bought by this person.")
  6. Yakin lôn nyang ureueng nyan geu bloe moto. ("I am sure that this person bought a car.")

And a few small questions, which I hope you can tell me:

  • How do you say "The king is certain."? Can you say Raja geu teuntèe? Can teuntèe be used as a verb at all?
  • Does yakin mean the same as teuntèe or is there a difference? Can you say Raja yakin lôn ("The king is sure")?
  • How do you say "I don't speak Aceh." in Aceh?
  • How do you say "I love you." in Aceh?

I would really appreciate it if you could help me with these phrases. The last 2 questions are only for a personal collection, and have nothing to do with the rest.

Aceh

[edit]

Salam! Really I'm not somehow concerned about Aceh Region. I'm more interested about Indonesia in general so I wrote some articles about places in Aceh, Sumatra, Kalimantan. I like sparsely populated regions with dense forests as well I'm interested in Malay languages, especially Indonesian. If you'll have any wishes to see any kind of article in Lithuanian wikipedia about Aceh or rest of Indonesia you can ask me. Greetings from Lithuania, Hugo.arg (talk) 17:26, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Abdul Gani Asyik

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Abdul Gani Asyik requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. AfD nomination of Abdul Gani Asyik

[edit]

I have nominated Abdul Gani Asyik, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abdul Gani Asyik. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Guy0307 (talk) 11:29, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The above is kesalahan besar and does not reflect what WP Indonesia for a start is about - please feel free to email me about this subject and issue.

Just because a non Indonesian chooses to take issue from a universal wikipedia wide notion of any of the issues that are brought up - does not make such an article not valid.

There are significant issues when such a process occurs - but it does not make your contribution wrong - it is valid and can and will be re-entered into the Wp Indonesia collection of articles - please do not be disheartened by the process.

Also if you read the comments - they usually follow through with a range of arguments that take no consideration of the 'reverse logic' of what they are applying - Abdul might be one of a few who is doing something in the area.

Just because they are well experienced in supporting fellow deletionists - does not in anyway say that the topic or subject or article is in fact 'Not notable' - they tend to use google - and tend to never research further - there are many subjects that are not on google that are in fact valid notable items - it is a cultural problem that many fall into.SatuSuro 02:03, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minangkabau

[edit]

The Minangkabau article covers all the aspects you mentioned - people, language, culture - so the most appropriate name it is just Minangkabau. Please do not move the page again without first proposing your change at Talk:Minangkabau and obtaining agreement. Thanks. (Caniago (talk) 11:54, 23 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]
