Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from James Dobson. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. While you are welcome to add reliably sourced material which praises Dobson to his article, do not replace negative material with positive. Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, and non-defamatory criticism of Dobson is welcome. Jclemens (talk) 21:00, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me understrand how I can't post Hugh Hewitt's positive comments about Dr. Dobson -- but somebody can post these from Mel White: Some gay rights activists have expressed fears that Dobson's ultimate goal is to pressure lawmakers into completely outlawing homosexuality and have openly questioned whether he favors reinstituting the Old Testament death penalty for homosexual activity.[51] In an interview with Soulforce, homosexual minister Mel White said, "Right now he just calls us an abomination. But he's warned us that he takes the Bible literally. Does that mean he's just waiting to enforce the execution part? I don't ask that question as an alarmist or an hysteric. I ask that question because it's real."[51] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schneegl (talkcontribs)

The postive comments are not from a reliable source. Specifically, they are from a website run by Focus on the Family, and so are not independent praise for Dobson. If you were to find something that said the same thing in, say, Christianity Today that would be substantially better. James Dobson is a man loved by many, and loathed and feared by many others. The Wikipedia article on him should present him from a neutral point of view by documenting sourced praise and criticism from all sides. Jclemens (talk) 00:46, 3 December 2008

Thank you for the explanation. I would like to point out, though, that the Mel White quote I referenced above is cited as appearing on soulforce.org, which is run by Mel White. This would seem to me to be the very same situation, and therefore would make the el White quote one that does not come from a reliable source. (talkcontribs)

Also, not to beat a dead horse, but footnote 19 is from the same CitizenLink site -- only the sentiment expressed is negative in that it relays criticism of Dobson. If CitizenLink is not "reliable" when it quotes praise of Dr. Dobson, why is it "reliable" when it quotes controversy surrounding him?
