Hi Samuella99

Wikimania 2007, which is being held in Taipei, Taiwan on August 3-5, is offering opportunities for travel scholarships to Wikimania for active users of Wikimedia projects from the continent of Africa. Although the original scholarship deadline has passed, please, if you are interested, you may still apply at http://wm07schols.wikimedia.org/apply.php. Sincerely yours, Cary Bass 21:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Footnotes

[edit]
Moved from Wikipedia talk:Questions

I just wanna contact somebody (preferably admin) without all the drama of reading things. How do I do that? Anyway, what I need is somebody to fix my referencing and tell me what I'm doing wrong because I've followed all the guidelines but the footnote is not in syncrony with the citation.

I need help with 'Campuses section' reference on this page: University of the Witwatersrand

Thanks Samuella99 21:15, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just start a new section at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, and someone will help you there. Or read Wikipedia:Footnotes ;) --Quiddity 22:58, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:The Wits University East Campus (archived).jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 20:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've acquired non-copyrighted images

[edit]

I asked the Wits University personnels for a non-copyrighted image of the campus and they emailed it to me. The author is aware of Wikipedia and knows the image's purpose and that I would upload it on Wikipedia (giving due credit to the university). How do I tag this picture given the above information?

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SABC 3.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SABC 3.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:24, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need people to translate the names of the countries and, if you want, you can translate me a template, then, I'll can make articles without help. --Jeneme 19:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The template is this:
Barcelona is a city of Spain, Europe. It has XXX inhabitants.

Fair use rationale for Image:SABC 3 (2007 logo).JPG

[edit]

Image:SABC 3 (2007 logo).JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SABC 3 (2007 logo).JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SABC 3 (2007 logo).JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:04, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a fair-use rationale to that image for the use of the image on the SABC 3 article which should satisfy Wikipedia policy and BetacommandBot. However, I believe that Wikipedia policy doesn't allow you to include the images on your user page (even though you uploaded them!) because it wouldn't meet the requirements of US copyright law. If you replaced the thumbnails in your gallery with ordinary links to the images, that would be OK. (In case you don't know, to link to an image without showing it, you use something like [[:Image:SABC 3 (2007 logo).JPG]].) Cheers, htonl (talk) 01:45, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:User:Samuella99/Medical Student requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:14, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

questions on Wikipedia_talk:Administrators

[edit]

Hello there, please don't use Wikipedia_Talk:Administrators to ask questions, they should instead be posted to Wikipedia:Questions or the Wikipedia:Help Desk.

  • Take a look at WP:Twinkle which will add tabs to the top of your screen (with a supported web browser) that can simplify reporting problems to the right places. The simple way to turn it on is to go to your "my preferences" link at the top of the page, and under the "Gadgets" tab, turn on Twinkle. Be careful using it until you are familiar with it and how reports should be made.
  • Re: 72.95.40.211 (talk · contribs), I'll keep an eye on it for a short while, you can always take it up with the administrators at WP:AIAV if it becomes a serious problem.

Interested Editors needed

[edit]

Hello. I am looking for people who would like to help building the following article. It is currently in need of practical people who appreciate reality. If I could get people who are interesting in the medical aspects of living on a extra solar planet (people NOT bacteria), that is what is survivable/tolerable/habitable, it would be great. I am lacking in experience in finding the right people to edit this article that we are trying to finish.

Translation of a short story

[edit]

Hi! So, you speak Setswana. I hope, you could help me. I'm a Hungarain wikipedian, my name is Norbert Kiss. I wrote a really short story and now I have 121 translations about it, but only two are from the real Africa. Could you make me a Setswana version? The English version is here:

Myself

[edit]

Ancient are my people to whom I belong, we are ancient ones, on this whole world. I speak an ancient language, the language of my own. I live in an ancient land, I’ve never lived elsewhere, and I belong here. This is me, myself. I am alone in the big world. I am alone, my nation passed away a long time ago, only I stayed. I speak my ancient language alone.

I am wandering on the road called life, I eat my bread and I drink my water alone. It is me who writes my books and I am the one who reads them. I climb the mountains behind my house; me I get the fish from the river which is in front of my house. Every day I go up to the hills to think and to meditate alone, only me on my own. While I was away, I have seen other people; some of them came to my land. I was good to them. I gave them food and drink, they could rest in my houses.

And now... strangers tell me, when they come here, what I should do, what I’m allowed to do. But here I am the landlord, I am the owner, I am the one who is at home. This is my ancient home, where my fathers and their fathers lived. This is my home, my land; I live here on my own.

I hope, you could help me. --Eino81 (talk) 10:01, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

South African Wikimedia Chapter

[edit]

Hi there. The idea of setting up a local Wikimedia chapter has been discussed by South African Wikipedians (and those associated with other Wikimedia projects) for some time now, and we want to help turn this dream into a reality. There are currently over 25 chapters established around the world, and several more planned and being discussed, but so far, none in Africa. A South African chapter, should it become a reality, would be a continental first. If you're interested in being involved in the creation of a South African Wikimedia Chapter, could you please email me directly :). Thanks and have a great World Cup Opening day, Kaydee 68 (talk) 07:24, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Ster Kinekor.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ster Kinekor.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:41, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
