Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of places in the United States with counterintuitive pronunciations: M–Z, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rensselaer (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Iron Horse Trail disambiguation page

[edit]

Hi,
For the entry on this page for Iron Horse Trail (Ohio), we need a bluelink to an article that actually mentions (includes) the redlink. Cincinnati, Lebanon and Northern Railway includes the redlink, which seemed to make it a suitable link.

New York Central Railroad does not mention "Iron Horse Trail" within the article.

The two obvious choices would seem to be to either use the Cincinnati, Lebanon and Northern Railway link, or to include a mention of "Iron Horse Trail", preferably the Iron Horse Trail (Ohio) redlink, in the New York Central Railroad article. I'm not a subject-matter expert, so I wouldn't be able to do the latter.

Your thoughts?

Regards, --NapoliRoma (talk) 05:31, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@NapoliRoma: Fixed. I should've checked "What links here" to see that there were two such trails in the state. Mapsax (talk) 12:49, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Bridge rail for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Bridge rail is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bridge rail until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article.

In this template edit history I see you added a tag that the template needed to be updated. I foind it because the banner was transcluded into an article that deployed the template, so I wrapped it in noinclude tags.

I can't work out what your banner applies to and there is nothing in the talk page. Are you able to cast any light one the matter there, please? Fiddle Faddle 12:10, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Timtrent: First, thank you for the NOINCLUDE tags, I hope that me not including them wasn't too disruptive.
As for the issue at hand: The code needs to be rewritten regarding the parameters due to the redirects used on the Indiana website. I updated the main URL but am not familiar enough with the code to make the deeper links work (try the examples in the table in the documentation). I also updated the template message to be clearer. Mapsax (talk) 20:43, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I fear I have no competence with arcane template syntax. I only spotted the issue when someone else asked a question on one of the many help desks. Easy to figure out and fix the immediate problem, but deeper is beyond me Fiddle Faddle 20:50, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see the print newspaper has completed the series. I won't have time to see if anything needs to be added to Wikipedia from the series but I do plan to check. My library gives me access to NewsBank and in a couple of weeks it'll be two years since that included the print edition.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:41, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Vchimpanzee: I'm not sure NewsBank is even necessary. All four articles have been online since the print edition published the first – when I take that link, the resulting page has an "Expand Section" right above the body which contains links to all four. Granted, some media websites are notorious for linkrot but McClatchy/The Sun News seem to be stable. Mapsax (talk) 23:13, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm blocked from the web site when I go over the limit.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 23:24, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. I guess I don't read it enough to reach the limit. Mapsax (talk) 23:30, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I reach that limit quickly so I'll have to use the URL of the source, which I'll have to guess since I can't see which URL matches what I am seeing. And few people will benefit from my using the URL I use.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:43, 16 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's nothing else in the articles that I consider useful.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:43, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@AngusWOOF: I simply moved a page and retained the old name as a redirect. Any DAB issues would have already existed (also note the hatnote that I retained in a modified state). Mapsax (talk) 00:15, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I created a set index article for the others with the same or similar names. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 00:17, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Myrtle Beach Depot

[edit]

That was a lot of work. I was looking for details about a protestor who literally stood in front of bulldozers. But I missed that detail about the last passenger train.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:57, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Vchimpanzee: A lot of work? I don't follow. I just happened to see the newspaper article and saw that the passenger date didn't agree. I'd like to know more about the protest myself. As for the subscription parameter, I included it because of the article access limit that we discussed above.
Incidentally, there was a cluster of three articles that I was studying, the one I added here and the one I added at Myrtle Beach Branch, but the third ("Myrtle Beach sees economic power in revamped rail line, but obstacles exist. Here’s why" from March 21 of this year) didn't seem to have anything notable, just a citizen proposal that hasn't gone anywhere. Mapsax (talk) 00:47, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, not a lot of work, but it was more than I did. I didn't use templates to format the sources when I added them.
I use "subscription required" if it's literally true. I get to see an almost unlimited number of Sun News articles using my library card. There may be the occasional article not available that way. Also, dates may not necessarily match what you see online.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:45, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Myrtle Beach Depot excerpt

[edit]
I'll just ask you. Since you added a new date for the last passenger service, it should be mentioned that the tracks were in bad shape, and the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway needed a lot of work, so these are obstacles. How much needs to be said beyond that I don't know.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:18, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: I see that you've been adding things. At this point, there's probably enough detail there and anything else should probably go on the rail line article, though I realize that there's a lot of overlap.
As for the older 1990s/2000s refs: Now I understand the "work" comment. I just was making things consistent since I was always planning to use a cite news template, which is encouraged. Now that I know that you're digging through the archives, I'd like to request that you distribute the references among all the sentences, rather than writing a series of sentences and putting the cites at the end of the last one, especially since there are no ELs to the articles so are harder to verify or get context from (yes, I know that not linking to anything is permissible, and in fact I've done it myself on other articles). Spanning would also work but I don't think that's available for the cite news template like it is for Template:Cns. That's why I put the {{refimprove}} template there because I wasn't sure which sentences went with which cites or whether some of them didn't go with any cites. (The last sentence regarding the restoration volunteer is an exception since it was an edit by an IP contributor who hasn't ever edited anything else, not by you.) Mapsax (talk) 22:40, 30 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is probably possible to tie each source to information, but to me it just looks sloppy when the different sources have different information and I'm trying to do everything in chronological order.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:44, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it's done. I guess it doesn't look that bad.
Just to be clear, one article is the oldest one available on the topic online using my library card. The other is the first one that actually states repairs were done, which supposedly makes passenger service possible. However, that article, and not the other one, says between the waterway and the depot, the tracks still can't be used. It also says the offer made earlier was rejected, which seems to be the main obstacle to getting the railroad ready for passengers. And that seems to be all that needs to be said about why the depot wasn't used for that purpose.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 19:36, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: Looks good to me. That should probably be done with the last section, too. I've deleted the template either way. Mapsax (talk) 01:09, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Section after excerpt

[edit]
I hope it's okay that I copied the discussion to the article talk page so others can see it.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:14, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: Well, truthfully, I'm not thrilled that you copied my personal comments without prior notification (note that mainspace contributions are different, I know that others can do with those what they want), but I'm generally OK with it because it helps. I didn't find anything about that being against policy after checking WP:TPO and WP:RTP, and it's not like you changed or removed anything, but I would be more cautious in the future with others' words, at least in my opinion. That said, I'm replacing the copied text with the "excerpt" template so things should look identical to the way they are now, but the comments will only originate from this page. A link would also work in this case. Mapsax (talk) 00:42, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[Added] And, yes, with the "excerpt" template, I'm technically messing with some of your comments, but I see this more as a revert, so it's a bit different, just so I don't seem like a hypocrite. Mapsax (talk) 00:45, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sorry about that. I've been told in the past that I really should put the disucssion on the article talk page.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:55, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: No problem. I'm in agreement with putting something on the respective articles' talk pages, it's just that I would not move the words themselves, opting for what I wrote above, a link or excerpt. You did ultimately inform me of the copying. We're good. Mapsax (talk) 00:58, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
