Deletion of Brisbane Square Image

[edit]

I don't know why the image of the Brisbane Square ( 850_385_DCM_Brisbane_Square.jpg ) is being deleted. The image was captured specifically for promotional material by Denton Corker Marshall, and is being represented as a creation of their works. I work for DCM ( User:Asperks ) and this image is regularly used in any architectural journal as a representation of their works. I have the entire folder of promotional images for web-sites sitting right in front of me, including the plans, elevations, sections, details, conceptual renderings and brief. This image is from that folder.

Sick of the link to the DCM wiki site. I've read through this list of discussion points. It certainly made clear some of the long-term issues with wikipedia, and how it's administered. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.108.117.164 (talkcontribs) 05:17, 9 January 2008

Hello again J Milburn. When you have a moment, please do check out my article and, if you think it will do, please move it to the article space for me. There is more I intend to add with time, but I need to find all the necessary references. However it should be publishable already, I hope. I mainly used the article about Slayer to learn how to edit articles and then I checked my article against every article in the category British death metal musical groups. I think/hope it's better than most of them. If there's something I haven't done right, please let me know. Thanks. Dark Heretic (talk) 00:53, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for al your help. A quick question about disambiguation - I assume someone out there will enter an article abot Dark heresy the role-playing game any day now, that's why I had the disambiguation text in there. Should I do anything about this or leave it as it is? (I'm no expert on the RPG so will not be writing that article, though of course I could start a stub if necessary.) Austin Symphonic Band

[edit]

Dear J:

A while back, for some reason, you decided to get your jollies by deleting an article about the Austin (Texas) Symphonic Band. Your rationale for deleting the entry was "[a]rticle about a non-notable individual, band, service, website or other entity." Please refrain from deleting Wikipedia articles when you have no grasp of the subject matter. The group in question has been recognized as one of the best community bands in the country by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, which awarded the group its "Sudler Silver Scroll." It has now performed by invitation three times at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, and has performed by invitation numerous times for both the Texas Bandmasters Association and the Texas Music Educators Association. Among community bands these are certainly "notable" accomplishments.

Maybe you don't like community bands, maybe you don't have a clue about them, but deleting wikipedia articles is pretty stupid to begin with. Mind your own damned business next time. 15.235.153.107 (talk) 14:38, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting the Skinning.net page

[edit]

I appreciate you doing what you do but you deleted a page that DID hold some 'notable refference' while stating it did not. Skinning.net is one of the oldest skinning community sites on the internet. Your deletetion was uncalled for and you offered no 'advice', even after it was asked for, in order to keep the page on the site. You also deleted an image that was clearly stated who holds the copyrights for the 'possibility of copyright infringement'. I hold the copyrights to it, I am the artist. If your going to do a job then at least do it with some respect to those you are affecting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SKoriginals (talkcontribs) 19:15, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I wasn't trying to double up on the deletion. At the time I loaded the Wikit page, there was no tag on it. I investigated it, came to what appears to be the same conclusion you did, and then tagged it for deletion with Twinkle. Twinkle will normally stop if it sees another AfD or CSD tag on the page, but I've noticed that it seems to ignore {{prod}} tags for some reason. Either that or we just added them at nearly the exact same time. Gromlakh (talk) 17:34, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD:Wikit

[edit]

This is from the ex-author of the recently deleted Wikit page, Ax3l lX (talk) 20:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC). In the case of failing memory, Wikit is a Wikipedia based game that relies on the use of links to come to a desired article in a specific number of turns. I completely understand your approach to its deletion, it would appear, as J Milburn noted, to be "a non notable game made up in school one day;" however, I feel that the game does have a viable foothold in American high school and college circles. It is understood that I took the wrong approach to posting it, especially in the claim of when and where it was invented (at the time I was perhaps, as Uncle G noted, 'Yet another group of schoolchildren [that] have thought that they invented this game and have come to Wikipedia to write up their claim to fame.') It is completely true that I did not invent the game, nor as Metropolitan90 showed, do I have even the smallest claim to that title.[reply]

However, I feel as if the page maintained by Metropolitan90 is in itself proof of the game's widespread acceptance and use. Perhaps in its current state, Wikit is missing a key component for indoctrination as a true game, but it must be shown that Soccer was not always "the most popular sport in the world", nor has Baseball always been "known as America's pastime." A game comes from the bottom and works its way to the top. Furthermore, Uncle G noted that Google search returned no results; however, this is not entirely true. There are numerous hits under "wikipedia game" from various wikipedia enthusiasts who play the nameless game with their friends. These include many blogs and forums were players post topics and then compete against numerous adversaries across the country, and indeed, the whole world. This link might explain it better: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=108654 .

I completely understand your angle, and actually, i completely agree with the deletion of my article. It was biased, and a selfish act. However, I am not writing this post to complain, nor actually, to even dispute the deletion. I feel as if Wikit, or however the game should be named, is worthy of an article on Wikipedia. I feel as if Metropolitan90's list of 20+ previous Wikit articles and the various worldwide blogs associated to the continuation of the game, defends its right to a single page which would link the whole community of players together. And now I come to my point.

As the two main contenders to its existence, Uncle G and J Milburn, I come not to dispute your claim, but rather, to ask for your help. The unnamed game requires a place where players from all over can come together; users should be able to examine other players methods and techniques, post house variations, and collectively decide on a name for the game. What better place for this than the very core of the game itself? In this quest I realize that I need some experienced help; being that you two found my article and posted it for deletion astonishingly quickly, I was hoping that either of you, or both, could direct me on a path that would render the article undeletable, due to its validity and correctness. There has to be a way to insure the article's survival, so that current and future gamers will be able to band together under their comman pastime.

If, however, you see my plight as a ridiculous waste of time, I thank you for yours. otherwise, I will await your consensus. Thank you both! Ax3l lX (talk) 20:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Total Recut

[edit]

Hi. I believe you deleted a page I created about the online startup, Total Recut. Please replace it immediately for the reasons stated below. Ragaman7

This article is about a web startup that has received significant national and international media attention, and has take some significant actions that other people should know about and should be recorded in an encyoplopedia, speicifically, taking on a series of YouTube takedown claims and successfully having their YouTube account and videos restored. Many newspapers, tv and radio stations and online journalistic publications have written articles about Total Recut and so it should be allowed to have a Wikipedia entry. Also, the owner of the site, Owen Gallagher, has authorised permission to use descriptions of the site similar to the 'about us' text on the site itself, even though the page created on Wikipedia does not copy and paste any text, but merely contains similar wording to the 'about us' description. Please remove the speedy deletion tag and make sure that this article is added to Wikipedia immediately. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ragaman7 (talkcontribs) 15:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Thanks for your feedback. I've rewritten the article and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind having a look at it for me? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ragaman7/Total_Recut --Ragaman7 (talk) 18:22, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey J.

Thanks so much for your help with reformatting the article. Fantastic job and greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, somebody seems to have nominated the article for deletion for the reason that they believe TotalRecut is a 'non-notable website.' Si there anything we can do about this to remove the 'article for deletion' from the header of the article? The nomination was made by Asod123123 and it seems to suggest that the site has received less than 1000 hits. My stats show that TotalRecut are getting over 75,000 hits a month. Can you suggest the best course of action here as I don't want the article deleted now that both you and I have put time and effort into it...

--Ragaman7 (talk) 19:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You really think it's ready for WP:GAC? Even though it has to be constantly locked semi-protect due to anon-ip vandalism and new user vandalism, and also as new info is relatively regularly being added to it, wouldn't that conflict with criteria (3) and (5) from WP:WIAGA ? If you feel it really is of WP:GA quality - well you haven't significantly contributed to the article, so feel like doing a GA Review? Cirt (talk) 15:50, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You bring up a good point. Perhaps after some more time has elapsed I'll take the article for a Peer Review, before going for WP:GAC. Cirt (talk) 00:40, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Director, Kevin Maistros

[edit]

You've deleted this page twice. This time you noted that you need to see sources. What sort of sources would you like to see? There are plenty around, I just don't know how to properly list them. However, I see many other music video directors on this site with much less reference or available information. Some just say "so and so is a music video director" but their pages are not deleted.

Instead of deleting the page right off the bat, maybe you could try researching yourself, or allowing those of us who do - to edit the page and add in all of the information you are asking for.

Beaurouge (talk) 22:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beaurouge (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

None of the references I've posted are forum posts. There is a very well respected news reporting website within the music community, AbsolutePunk.net which allows comment posting in response to their news articles. As well, there are direct sources from Record Label websites which show he is in fact a music video director who works often. As well, there are other news reporting websites like MVwire and he's also present on MVDbase which is not a user generated database. I've read the pages you've pointed to regarding notability and reliable source but the references that I have found (and still looking for more) are only factual based reporting of projects he's been involved with or is in the process of doing. Not one gives an opinion based report of him as a person, and stick to reporting. I don't understand how this particular music video director is any less notable than some of the ones that are listed, who do not have any references at all.

Kevin Maistros also runs a very large film maker's group on MySpace which is one of the largest film maker communities on the web right now and is known throughout the independent film maker's community from that as well. Often teaching, assisting, and offering resources to many aspiring or independent film makers in general. http://groups.myspace.com/filmmakers

I'm trying to actively add upcoming directors and artists who I feel deserve to be documented and followed through their career - who already have a body of work for notable artists. I wanted to start with Maistros. He just worked on a music video for Angels and Airwaves, is working on several new ones for Puddle of Mudd, and several other smaller but signed bands that will have all of their videos playing on Fuse and Mtv2. I'd say that makes him notable. Just as notable as other music video directors that are listed on Wiki who have also done music videos for major artists. Should I just return to his article later when there are more sources to point to? If I completed the article before posting and then put it up in it's complete form would you reserve your judgments for the completed article? There are a group of us involved in this, and it would be nice to have some time to finish the article and list all the references (others have more), before it's taken down so swiftly.

Dieselpunk

[edit]

Good day. I'd like to ask you to check out the Deletion review on the Dieselpunk page which you removed. I'm hoping that the page could be restored. Ottens (talk) 10:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your time. Some confusion appears to have been caused by my writing of a new Dieselpunk article, where it was presumed this new version was rather a recreation of the old one... which was deleted because it was basically a bunch of bull-- I mean: original research. Ottens (talk) 10:14, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hope that my version was at least of better quality than the one created by Piecraft, which lacked any sources whatsoever, and seemed only to detail his concept of a Dieselpunk alternate history, where mine cited sources, detailed influences of the genre and described its different forms according to setting. In regard to notability: after being initially coined by Children of the Sun game designers (making it notable as far as I'm concerned), Google now produces more than 12,000 results for "dieselpunk"; it's listed in the wiktionary; an elaborate chronology is available, listing dozens of works labeled "dieselpunk". The genre is relatively new, hence it being less familiar to many unlike steampunk which has found widespread acceptance. Nonetheless, dieselpunk is vividly discussed and generally accepted within the steampunk community. Ottens (talk) 10:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your message.

[edit]

Hello. Thank you for your message. Just to be clear, I never called your deletion "suspicious." What I said, in my message to Ottens, was that the reasoning given, i.e., "recreation of previously deleted material," was "specious." Perhaps that was a harsher word than was necessary, but it is what I said. I have no reason to believe your actions were "suspicious." Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, it never even crossed my mind to bring the matter directly to you. I do not know why, but it simply seemed more appropriate to take it to a review. There was certainly no offense meant. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tetic

[edit]

I was asked by my employer, to write a brief description of our company and see how to get it on wikipedia like our competition has done. The first submission was detailed, however much less "advertising" than our competitions pages accepted on wikipedia. I toned things down, erased a bunch of stuff as to not "blatantly advertise". I'd like to get the page up on wikipedia however, the second page was deleted for being about a "person" or something of the sort. I appreciate your discretion regarding your acceptance but regardless, what do I have to do to get the page accepted. I won't try to advertise, I won't include a company history or overview like the first submission that was viewed as, and deleted for "blatant advertising".

What do I have to include, or for that matter not include to get a page accepted?

Thank you for your assistance,

I don’t understand why you deleted the page with the information about the Portuguese actor Tiago Rodrigues. Is an international actor, and several theatres in europe reminds us to publish his biography in the wikipedia. Is a real person related with the arts: writer, actor, director, etc. I know the information wasn’t exhaustive but I’m working on it. Hello!

I apologize if I nominated the article under a wrong speedy criteria and, thus, came across as overzealous in doing so. At the time of my nomination of the article, the creating editor, Jimbob64 (talk · contribs), had no other contributions listed and a quick glance at his/her talk page showed me that there was a notice dated January 24, 2008 by Milk's Favorite Cookie (talk · contribs) regarding an article of the same title nominated for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#G1. Seeing that the article had been nominated and speedied under that criteria before, I confirmed to myself that I was doing the right thing nominating it for deletion because, even though the village may exist, I got the impression that the article was not created for the purpose of providing information on the village, rather I got the impression of someone who wanted to have a little fun at Wikipedia's expense and, possibly, was from said village. So my initial assumption of good faith was overturned by the little evidence that was presented to me. You're absolutely right when you say that deletion is not always the answer. I fully agree and I don't try to nominate articles to which deletion would not be the right answer. But I really believed that this article (again, whether I was right or wrong in the end) should have been deleted so I proceeded to nominate it. I'm glad to see that it's fixed and, again, I apologize for coming across as overzealous in my initial reaction to its creation. However, I have not changed my mind as to the intent of the creating editor. Jimbob64 (talk · contribs) currently has 2 listings in his contributions: one being the creation of the Clutton article and the other one being this edit. It is my belief that he/she is here to have some fun at our expense and he decided (twice) to do that with a village that exists but on which there is no article.
Anyways, thanks for your note and I will be sure to be more meticulous in the future when deciding what should be speedied versus what shouldn't as well as deciding the proper criteria to nominate it.
Have a good one!
Peace! SWik78 (talk) 17:15, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a request for you. Could you please place a semi-protection on Lamb of God (band)? The genres are constantly being vandalized. So much so, that I will be on the page and ten minutes later i have to go to the history section of the page and retrieve the previous version. It would be very much appreciated for me, as well as anyone esle that watches the page. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 19:01, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have rollback. I've heard of it, but I don't see a difference between that and the undo button. Do you reccomend it? If so, where do I apply? Sorry, I feel like a 20 questions game. :P Is rollback only available to established users? If the vandalism continues after the block expires, is there a permenant block available? I just managed to ask four questions in one message. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 19:22, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I get it. Sure, I wouldn't mind if you gave it to me. You may as well because if I requested it you would probably beat someone else to the punch! I never thought of that but I suppose you are right, I am more of an editor than vandal watcher. I have placed hidden comments but they usually get removed within a short time of placing them. I'd say Lamb of God is the biggest atraction for vandalism that is on my watchlist. As an off topic question, would you mind performing a copyedit on Black Tide? It is a very short article, but I want it to be GA if I can get a picture. I suppose I would have to wait until the album is out for chart positoins and all that stuff. Thanks, —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 19:49, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to wait until a couple of weaks after the album is out and then nominate it. All the info on that page is contained within that article that I have (the Revolver citation) but I thought it would be better to use different sources, and Blabbermouth is the only reliable site that mentions them. The way I see it, if the article is written really good, then it could be a GA. No matter how short it is. Check out Tapeworm (band). That is a current GAN. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 20:32, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the history section just today. This is what it looked like earlier today. So, will it be eligable in a couple of days? And just so you know, I'm not the one who wrote Tapeworm, I was just using it as an example. —Burningclean [Speak the truth!] 20:52, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, but I have several questions about all this image stuff. I have pretty much given up altogether on image issues because I don't understand the tons of details. Lostprophet's album art is their own, fine. But if I change it a little and then make it my own slightly different version how do I upload that to Wikipedia and say it's mine and that I altered it a little? I'm not sure how to upload pictures to Wikipedia and tag them correctly with the right image tags, so I have pretty much given up. Alright, whatever, I don't really understand how the whole images thing works and I won't ask you to explain it to me, so it just dissaudes me from wanting to do anything with images. And if it's my choice, then I want to see how long it can get. - Bagel7T's 05:29, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Green Dragons

[edit]

This group in fact is notable in Slovenia, gets some media coverage and is one of the two biggest in the country. So I have restored the article. Greetings. --Tone 21:09, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
