Hi Gogo Dodo,

I would love to post some information about our initiative: plustrees.org on wikipedia. The post we created that gave an introduction has just been removed, can you please help me to inform me how we can put information on our initiative without being removed?

The page that I deleted didn't have anything to do with you as it was a childish attack article about somebody who coincidentally shared your name. You are welcome to create an account and start a real page about yourself, but you should probably read the Wikipedia guideline on writing autobiographies before you do so. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 21:57, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Spill.com.....please remove the protection from creation for this page on wiki....

Upon gandering at the most recent user acclaimed for deleting the Spill.com wikipedia page, and most likely restricting it from being created in the future, I noticed, it was you. I am yet unclear as to why you did this on the 12th August -funnily enough the day upon which you earned your highly regarded 'Wikipedian of the Week' award, you so proudly display on your own personal page (congratulations by the by)-, but I feel a Spill.com wikipedia page has a legitimate reason for 'existing'.

Firstly, as is clear from it's currently not up and running page, several separate users, have on their own attempted to create this page in the past -as to how well high a standard, I do not know-, but this still indicates a desire for a wikipedian page.

Secondly, the website itself is a fairly well renowned film critic site, which has included several self produced interviews with celebrities, and is constantly updated, producing a new animated film review every few days or so, and also has a member list of aprox. 22,956 folks who have joined the site. Yet Gametrailers.com has only 1200 members, yet wikipedia felt it necessary to put up their website. This should clearly indicate that Spill.com is legitimate, and successful enough for Wikipedia.

Thirdly, Spill.com has in fact been quoted as a source of film reviews for Wikipedia, such as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Cloverfield, etc -not added by me, might I add.

Fourthly, isn't it a right of every Wikipedia member to be able to put up a legitimate Wikipedia article? Now, maybe you had a legitimate reason for deleting this article at first, but I have presented enough reasons for its existence. Now I know your up there in your ivory tower of being a Wikipedia administrator (a very handsome one by the way), and probably look down on us proletariat simpleton users as incapable of challenging your law, but I don't want to fight, all I want to do is restore a page for a decent website, so if you could find it in your heart to remember a time when you, yourself were one day just a regular user, rather than being a supreme ADMINISTRATOR, it would be much appreciated....

P.S. Perhaps the quality of the Spill.com articles were not very good beforehand, which may have been why they were deleted, then tell me so I myself can either create a smashing attempt, or add a request for it's creation. Or maybe, it's as simple as no wikipedia articles about websites should ever have the '.com' at the end of their name on wikipedia, if that is the case, then tell me that too. In either case, all I ask, is that you remove the protection from it's creation...thank you, yours sincerely, Lobo2.

P.P.S, I am not a worker for the site Spill, nor am I it's creator, I am merely, a fan.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lobo2 (talkcontribs) 18:47, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

You (IMO) unjustly marked a page I created for deletion

You recently sent me a message claiming that a page I created didn't aparently meet the criteria of having a right to exist on Wikipedia. I have ALREADY written my case for why I think it should remain intact on the page's talk page, and the page has ALREADY been saved from deletion. The page is currently being updated regularly by other users that should keep it up to date and meeting wikipedia's standards; and also, the page is about an extremely popular website and in my own opinion (and in the opinion of many others) it has as much right to exist as the page about Ain't it Cool News, another Austin, Texas based film website - who's page goes completely uncontested for it's right to exist.

And also, just to clarify, the page is NOT either an advertisment or promotion for the website but rather gives information about it in an objective, nonpartisan manner - it was designed exactly that way.

Thank you for reading this and please save the page. (I know this is an irrelivent point, but it did take a lot of hard work.)

You are going to have to tell me which article it was that I deleted for me to give you a specific answer. However, it is likely that the article was deleted because your friend is not notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Spill.com

Sir, do you have any hatred towards spill.com? Because when I search for spill.com, I seen that you have deleted the webpage for being not important. I have changed your edit on Austin Flim Critic Assotiation, which you claimed that half of it was not noticable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.251.38.148 (talk) 22:13, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

I have no hatred towards it. The article was deleted because it was determined through community consensus that the website is not notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. As for my removal of Spill.com from the Austin Film Critic Association, as noted in my edit summary, having a list of non-notable members is not helpful. Wikipedia is not a directory listing of who is a member of the association. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:19, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Spill.com removal?

I was wondering if I could get your viewpoint on why you felt it necessary to delete the Spill.com wikipedia entry. I understand that it has fewer outside references and supplementary sources covering the site than you would like (but more than the typical website entry on wikipedia), but I don't see any reason why it can't remain up.

Having CNN cite the website as a source for a story on the highly publicized X-Men Origins: Wolverine leak, being a part of several well-known Austin critic associations, featuring the talents of Austin celebrities such as Korey Coleman and C. Robert Cargill (a longtime contributer to fellow site Ain't It Cool News under the psuedonym "Massawyrm") and having a substantial web presence and fanbase, I see no reason why the entry had to be removed. As a fan of the site, I find it very frustrating that it keeps getting put back up through the fans hard work, and then gets removed for having more relevant information on it than a large portion of other website entries on wikipedia.

I understand that as a website entry, it may be prone to vandalism, but isn't that why Wikipedia employs people to monitor those types of scenarios? The version that I saw up recently contained quite a bit of easily verifiable information, and painted a very clear un-biased description of the site and it's many features (animated video reviews, audio podcasts, nationwide conventions and events, etc).

If you can't restore the entry based on it's own merits, could you at least lend an experienced opinion towards what the entry would need to include to prevent it from being removed again, since numerous previous attempts by the site owners and fanbase alike seem to have failed repeatedly? Thank you.

99.39.117.107 (talk) 22:18, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Peter Sorensen

I didn't delete the article. It was determined through community consensus that the website is not currently notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. The issue is not verifiability, but notability. If you have a problem with how the AfD was closed as Delete, you may file a review at Wikipedia:Deletion review. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:22, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
I did indeed delete several versions of the article, but that was because it was either a repost of the article that was deleted during the AfD process or non-notable stub articles before the AfD was completed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:26, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Excuse me?

Excuse me, but the page I created on Spill.Com DID have references from reliable, third party sources. But you had it deleted anyway. When I tried to put up the original version of the page I had saved on a word file, it was deleted after only twenty minutes. Before I had a chance to add anything new to it. No sooner had I relocated some of the sources which other editors had placed on the page, it was taken down.

I didn't participate in the deletion dispute you spoke of chiefly because I was under the impression that if an argument of mine seen outside the page itself's talk page was seen, that the page would be instantly be deleted due to its creator overstepping his bounds.

I don't plan to put the page up again for some time. But I will eventually. When I do I will try as hard as I can to make sure it has enough reliable references provided to meet wikipedia's (and you administrators's) standards - thought I must note that to the best of my knowledge it had those already.

In the meantime I suggest you do something a little more constructive with your important position on wikipedia; instead of looking for pages to delete rather than create and (in particular) STALKING wikipedians simply trying to do their best to put something out there instead of destroying the work of others.

Just to note, I (and many others) don't appreciate being spied upon and having personal comments I leave followed by people I don't know.

Best wishes

You claim you would have left me alone and not gone around shadowing my actions and invading my privacy had I "not tried to be deceptive"? And how would you have found out any such thing had you not been doing so from the begining? You WERE stalking me. And from what I can discern, for no clear reason. I expect it must be common practice for you.

And I wasn't trying to be "deceptive" as you put it. Or trying to "undermine the system" as you put it. I was merely trying to find a way to put the page back up and have it stay up without constant fear of it being deleted. I saw no other option available than to give it a different title. Administrators were on the lookout for the original page title and I couln't leave it up long enough to add references to the it.

Thank you. And in the future, I would apreciate it if you didn't monitor comments I leave that are not addressed to you directly.

Spill.com deletion

You keep saying that the Spill.com page was deleted through community consensus, but I see no such consensus on the Deletion review log. One can't help but think that either A: you are using a very old decision from when someone tried to put up a stub article about two years ago, or B: you have some other reason for personally not wanting this one the site. Even going so far as to remove the names of members of the Austin Critic's Association because they are 'non-notable' seems like someone with an axe to grind because I certainly don't see that being used as a justification for editing in any other articles anywhere else on wikipedia. If you did, you'd have to delete down 90 percent of the articles on the site. Every argument you have made is proven invalid by wikipedia itself and the myriad of other much less researched and verified site pages on it for sites with considerably smaller readership than Spill. If you have this consensus page, let's see the discussion... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.145.20 (talk) 23:00, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

You didn't look in the correct place: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spill.Com. There was a consensus to delete and it was deleted. I have no axe to grind with anybody or anything on Wikipedia. Please go read WP:OSE. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:28, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
By your logic then, shouldn't you, as a responsible editor of Wikipedia, track down and mark for deletion all these other pages that previous commentators have mentioned less well researched, written and notated than the Spill.com article was? Seeing as this isn't happening makes me think that what is written on Wikipedia's own page about "Notability in Wikipedia", quoted from a Washington Post article, "Wiki-worthiness has quietly become a new digital divide, separating those who think they are notable from those granted the imprimatur of notability by a horde of anonymous geeks" rings all too true. You can claim impartiality all you like but actions speak louder than words. I'm the last guy who'd want other folks movie sites taken down from here, but the size and popularity of Spill.com alone (1.5 million uniques per month) and the frequency of a variety of users requesting a page or contesting the deletion of one seems enough to go on to suggest notability at least matching if not easily surpassing a large quantity of the other film sites represented here which don't seem to regularly suffer from contesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.145.20 (talk) 06:46, 27 October 2009 (UTC)
No. See WP:OTHERSTUFF. Look, I'll spell it out for you real clearly... You have two options to make the Spill.com article exist on Wikipedia:
  1. Make an account and recreate it with the necessary citations. If the website is as popular as you say it is, then finding the necessary citations will be easy.
  2. File a deletion review contesting the closure of the AfD.
Continuing to pester me will not get the article undeleted. I will not be undeleting it just because you continue to pester me. I have told you and your friends what to do, but nobody seems to be willing to do the work. The burden is on your group to get it done, not me. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 17:39, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

WHICH ONE ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannah swan (talkcontribs) 20:50, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Small Basic Recipes

I recently added a recipes section to Small Basic page.

The purpose of small basic is to teach kids how to program.

Recipes are not programs, they are the recipe of a program (comments). The Idea of the recipe is to give kids something to want to do, and then a sort of map to help them program it. 10 minutes later I went about adding a second recipe, to make a richer source to start learning from, and got a comment "wikipedia is not source forge"

given that the approved page has actual 'code snippets' like ==Conditional Branching== I find this to be odd that code is ok, but comments aren't.

I was about to redo the edit (which has been remarkably annoying to do btw: using images is not straight forward) but thought we should have this conversation first.

The article was deleted because the article did not establish why the website/company was notability enough for inclusion on Wikipedia per the WP:WEB and WP:CORP guidelines, respectively. The article was also promotional in nature. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:06, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Question regarding MythBusters (2009 season)

Hello. We've last talked to each other last March about the "Mike's Day Off" episode of Dirty Jobs. But now, I'm asking you about another Discovery Channel show, MythBusters.

I know that the episode "Hurricane Windows" will be aired there in the States next week. However, the episode has been shown here in Asia since last Friday (and presumably in Europe earlier this month) and I can still remember the details of the episode and the myths involved. My question is: can I write the summary of the episode now or should I wait until next week? - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 12:51, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Well seen. It quite fooled me. The whole site is just a hidden frame with "http://www.mmafighting.com/" inside it. Plus a single extra page which shows when http://www.mmafighting.com.au.tt/news/2009/10/29/overturning-controversial-decision-bound-to-cause-more-controversey. is called: http://www.trinityent.org/guy/news/2009/10/29/overturning-controversial-decision-bound-to-cause-more-controversey. Page source also shows that it's a free domain supplied by http://www.joynic.com/. Good detective work! -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:21, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Well-played, Ronhjones. You should always carefully look at the domain extension - if that's wrong, or any other part of the domain is out of order, there's no reason to investigate the page itself. These "free domain" services are common nowadays - UNONIC, JoyNIC, SmartDots, DotTK. Not to mention, news sites are hacked on a somewhat regular basis, so you need to take into account how well something is written, and require more than one source, especially for controversial subjects.
Anyways, it was a nice find. I'll stay away from the Lyoto page..for now.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MachidaFan22 (talkcontribs) 01:18, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

can you please clarify why you had to delete this page. I can edit as you like. please tell me what happened to it. It rankes 23rd in maldives alexa rankling. please check.

Please see the other maldives news sources listed in wiki. unlike other countries non of the maldives websites have reviews. only we can see them on mondo times. please check if you have time. (maldives news papers: miadhu, minivan news)

I gave the alexa ranking to show you the popularity of the site in maldives. Please Cross check with other media outlests listed in Wiki.

Yes, we have hired people who are paid to work they do(every article or publishing). I am very sorry i could not inform you one thing. And im very sorry I had asked you several times why this post was removed. Today one of my senior staff has reported me of vandalism of this site. it seems its done by a fired employee a day or so back. That person had been meddling with this site under a user name of neens_80. we had got some extortion mails recently.

Please pardon the postings in your talk page. Let me know if this website can be relisted. only then we will proceed under advice.

Maldive Digest

Please explain why you had deleted this page. It was first listed months ago, all these days it had met the criteria. now suddenly did the rules change?

ANd, i want to tell you why are other unpopular news sites of maldives listed here. Please explain.and can you answer my previous question please. also, please do not remove lot of work done by people. had you checked this website as told? please dont use your powers wrongly. I am from maldives and i know what is popular here. and i have never vandalized wiki. and respect it. and i respect you as an admin. so please do not miss use your powers and let good content be there.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.164.101.249 (talk) 07:49, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

The criteria never changed and time does not matter. The article did not establish why the website/company is notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia per the respective guidelines at WP:WEB and WP:CORP. If you disagree with my deletion, you may either create an account and recreate the article with the proper references (there were none) or file a deletion review. I never said anybody vandalized anything regarding the article. I also suggest you read WP:OTHERSTUFF and WP:POPULARITY. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:00, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

WP:AIV

Hi Gogo Dodo: you wrote: "I saw your two WP:AIV reports today and wanted to mention a few things about them. Both of your reports resulted in no action. The first is that both reports were stale in that the IPs in question had not edited for hours or days before you reported them. Secondly, unless the vandalism is similar to the previous block reason, IPs are generally not immediately reblocked unless it is an obvious shared IP like a school IP. Finally, your request for an indefinite block of IPs is not likely to be done. IPs are very rarely blocked indefinitely." Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:15, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. A recurring issue seen is that when other involved editors revert vandalism, they frequently neglect to check the vandal's contributions to see what type of user they're dealing with. Where I request an indefinite block, I've confirmed that the IP or user has in fact been an bad-faith editor. The fact that my AIV request occurs several hours or more after the last vandalism edit is trivial in comparison to the vandal's action.
To quote wp:warn: "If a user stopped vandalizing some time ago, and their edit histories don't suggest a pattern of chronic vandalism, there's no need to warn or block them at all (although a welcome template might help future visits). Likewise, if a user is in the midst of an obviously bad-faith vandalism spree, there's no need to warn them before temporarily blocking them."
I would point out that being a day late in issuing an AIV request does not fall into the user having '[vandalized] some time ago'. If the user has committed 20 or so vandalism edits in a span of three weeks, with 0 good edits, you can be reasonably assured he/she is a bad faith editor. If an Admin chooses to ignore the obvious then a disservice is being done to Wikipedia, its target audience and its legitimate editors. I would also suggest that wp:warn be improved to remove non-specific language such as 'vandalism spree' and 'chronic vandalism', since such phrasing is open to interpretation which results in Admins chastising AVU staff for cleaning up after vandals. Like any business process, a lack of precise language will ineveitably cause confusion and conflict. B.T.W. in the past other Admin staff have agreed to requests for indef. blocks of Vandalim Only users. Best: HarryZilber (talk) 03:42, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Re your message: WP:AIV is for recent vandalism reports. Not edits that have occurred days in the case of 24.173.92.65 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) or hours in the case of 71.192.98.65 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) earlier. In the case of 24.173.92.65, your issuing of warnings were also incorrect. The last edits occurred on the 9th, you warned him three times in rapid succession [1][2][3] 18 hours after the edits were bot reverted and the IP was warned [4]. You should have not warned the IP at all. You then reported the IP to WP:AIV three days later. During that intervening time, the IP made no edits. As for indefinitely blocking IPs, that is very rare. Neither of these two IPs would warrant an indefinite block in my opinion. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:11, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi again: Thanks for the advice and assessment. Until wp:warn is updated to allow for improved responses to vandalism sprees, vandalism-only accounts and bad-faith editors, I'll limit my AIV requests to those responding to vandalism edits less than 5 hours after they occur (a reasonable timeliness to respond to such acts, would you agree?), and I'll remember to provide the uw-v warnings on a staged basis as apposed to lumping them together when responding to sprees. Paulman Berg

Hi Gogo Dodo. I was trying to write an article and make it have importance for the band Paulman Berg, but was not given enough time to develop it and connect it to other articles already existent on wikipedia. How is it that bands are allowed to have articles on wikipedia, when it seems they're just deleted immediately by the censors that troll these sites. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BumpStopBump (talkcontribs) 08:21, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Carol is the 7th most followed REAL person on twitter in Canada. She is currently being invited to speak at events in Toronto, and will be on televison next month. She has obtained twitter celebrity status in under a year. If you were not so busy fighting Aliens, you may have googled her or checked her twitter account. As a blogger she gets tens of thousands of hits a day on digitallyblonde.com. Please consider revising. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnimorphic (talkcontribs) 16:53, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Easy, none of your friends are talented celebs. Carol is big in the indie/fan scene. She has dedicated followers all over the world, and again, you seem to easily skip over the fact that she is more well known than Victor Lucas (but not Tommy Tallarico, that guy is the MAN DAWG). You want to clarify what having Canadians on your msn is supposed to prove and clarify how you can compare an entire television series starring the goddamn Macgyver to and up and coming, but no less popular Canadian talent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.238.42.137 (talk) 18:00, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

She's on Twitter of all things. If she is notable, then fine. But all I have heard so far is "Twitter this, Twitter that." Some have said she's been on TV. Good for her, so have I. But not one has come up with a source to back anything up. She's popular. So is my author friend mentioned above (below? The thread's highly fragmented). I'm not clamouring to make her a page. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 18:03, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it seems that many people disagree with your definition of notable. You should not fight back with what you think, rather, examine more closely what people are saying to you. This is not a popularity contest, I agree. Asking for interviews with Carol, is sort of missing the point. You've clearly just upset a number of people. In Canada, numbers are not like they are in the States. This is an important element of the argument, b/c our population could easily fit into ONE state -say California. Percentage wise, she is a major influence in the tweeting community. Canada, though small in number, has the HIGHEST per capita social network usage, with 80% of it's populace "plugged in". bearing that in mind, being 7th, is NOTABLE. OUTSIDE of twitter, she has been to numerous events, and interviewed many people. since your earlier comment, there have ben offers to interview her, simply to meet YOUR guide lines.

You should restore the page, and issue an apology. This was a very unnecessary expenditure of time. -—Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnimorphic (talkcontribs)

I don't care about Carol Zara being Canadian. I'm sure that's not what is hindering her from being on Wikipedia. However, she does several video chats, has done many interviews at conventions, and has also had several videos on youtube. (while I know youtube isn't a credible source, in the conventional sense, neither is Wikipedia in that ANYONE has the ability to add or subtract information.) Even the dictionary adds words/phrases used in popular culture. The same argument can be used for Carol Zara. She's a growing pop-culture influence that CAN become "official" in the eyes (words) of Wikipedia.

TONY WANG

please explain why you deleted this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.123.202.241 (talkcontribs)

The article was most recently deleted because it was a repost of an article that was deleted through the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tony Wang. If you are asking about my particular deletion of the article back in October, that was because the original author blanked the article. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:07, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

The article has changed since the original article with new citations. It is not the same article as the original one from before simply with the citations to make him notable. As such, it shouldn't be deleted since it is not a repost but an updated version that passes wiki's criteria for posting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.123.202.241 (talk) 04:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Article: Scootering

I made an attempt at removing information on the article 'Scootering' and created 'Freestyle Scooters' and put the information there. but i believe you redirected freestyle scooters to scootering.

Whoever first created "scootering" did not represent it correctly and it should rightly be named "freestyle scooters"

"scootering" should be redirected to "freestyle scooters" not the other way around.

You may recreate it if you can provide the necessary citations from reliable sources that establish his notability. Searching AIV

Apropos your revert: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrator_intervention_against_vandalism&action=historysubmit&diff=328339144&oldid=328338590 Huh? I filed a report and would like to find it using a search. It's been since 11/16, so it's not listed. I'm sure others are in the same situation. I performed the edit I did in an effort to make it possible. Please reply here or on the article's talk page. --Elvey (talk) 07:32, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I see your comment/reply - on my talk page. The page history exists. hmm... Ah, when the AIV helper bot was approved, it was putting the name of the blockee in the edit summary, so users who filed reports would be able to find the response by viewing the page as it existed just before the bot deleted the report. Not a good situation, IMO. Having to manually do a binary search through the history is inordinately painful. I can imagine that the change occurred because it was desired sometimes to not have the reportee's name put in the log. The reporter's name would serve as well. Agree? --Elvey (talk) 07:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
If you are referring to this report, then it was responded to by NuclearWarfare here. The report was subsequently removed as stale by Fvasconcellos here. The AIV Helperbots will put the blocked accounts and admin's name in the edit summary, but since your report did not result in any blocking, the Helperbots were not involved therefore no edit summary. One thing to note is that you don't need to create a new section for WP:AIV reports. You just need to add in the * {{IPvandal|IP address}} or * {{Vandal|username}}. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:51, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd found NW's response with the laborious binary search I mentioned, which I did once I found my search tool didn't work, but thanks. How did you find it? I see what you're saying; I hadn't found Fvasconcellos edit yet. Noted. Thanks for helping. Is there nothing to do about the problem but document it? --Elvey (talk) 08:16, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
The same way you did, I'm just a bit faster at it. =) The removal of stale reports does cause gaps in the history, but there is no way for the Helperbots to determine that a report is stale and should remove it, and therefore note it in the edit history. For those who are fairly active in reporting vandals, they will watch their reports to see if an admin declined it or needed more information. I forgot to answer one part of your original message: The helperbots have never included the reporters name in the edit summary as far as I remember. Only the blocked and admin names. The reporter isn't that important in the long run. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
There could be a RemoveNotBlocked: On to enable automatic removal of other entries tagged with a :{{AIV. The whole point of what I was trying to do is make it easy for someone reporting a vandal do do the watching you describe.
Please consider editing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Editnotices/Page/Wikipedia:Administrator_intervention_against_vandalism to add the following, or something like it: "If you update or delete listings, please ensure the subjects of the listings (i.e. the reported users) are in your edit summaries so that those who report a vandal can easily see if an admin declined it or needs more information." Manually doing a binary search through the history is inordinately painful. I've edited AIV/Header already. /Elvey (talk) 22:51, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
And I removed it. Please discuss such a change on the talk page first as it requires a procedural change by administrators. You need to discuss such changes on the talk page and get a consensus that the procedural change will occur. Discussing the issue with just me isn't consensus. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:54, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Can I start by getting your view on the smaller change I just made and the change I asked you to make above? Elvey (talk) 23:09, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I don't think either is really necessary. While I understand wanting to follow your reports is important (I remember doing so before I was an admin), I'm not sure that adding in more instructions or procedures is really necessary. But perhaps reporter's interest wanting to know what happened to not acted upon reports is higher than I perceive. I'd ask on the WP:AIV talk page to see if it is much of an issue. If it is, then something with instructions or procedural can be added. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 23:30, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

BTW, this says "the bots are designed such that they will not duplicate work," however I noticed one bot re-doing another bot's edits here!--Elvey (talk) 08:16, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

The two Helperbots just had an edit conflict. It happens from time to time. Not really a big deal. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

PS Wow, I just saw the battleground that is your user page history. What do you think about my 'skin in the game' idea I mention on my user page? Elvey (talk) 23:09, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I missed this comment. The vandalism on my user page is a direct result of my being an admin and the kind of work I do on Wikipedia which tends to upset the vandals. One of these days I will indefinitely semi-protect my user page (perhaps when I reach 500 on the counter?). Your "skin in the game" idea sounds a lot like Citizendium. Unfortunately, I don't think it really would work too well as the old saying goes.. "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog". -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 20:21, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks! I've updated User:Elvey#Hopes.21 a bunch and incorporated your feedback. (I'd say that wikipedia+flagged revisions is closer to Citizendium than wikipedia+my idea. The key concept is so simple, it's easy to miss, and not appreciate how effective it is: There need to be rules, and meaningful consequences for breaking them. No more, and no less.) --Elvey (talk) 21:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Randy Disher as Summit, New Jersey fictional character, chief of police

Wondering whether this might be re-included? I agree he's a fictional character. But these TV shows can be extremely popular, and the popularity can have the effect of changing peoples' thinking about topics like Summit, NJ, and if a lot of people watching get an idea of "Summit NJ" from the show, then perhaps it should be in the article somewhere? Perhaps not in "notable residents" but it should be mentioned somewhere?--Tomwsulcer (talk) 13:41, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Mr Gogo,

For your kind informatiotn, content I have added you didn't remove it completely. So, I have undo all my changes and that was my last edit with wikipedia. Because of guys like you, people are discourage as soon as they start contributing.

It doesn't matter to me if you block me for single day or whole lifetime because this is the last time I am writing on wikipedia and that to you. But don't think wikipedia is the end, web is full of such portals, may be I will find better and more co-operative people somewhere else.

Only thing I wanted to share with you is that you should widen your approach of analyzing what is spam and what is not. Best of luck and thanks for feedback.

Noticed that this user keeps re-creating the same page about himself. They're very well-designed pages but are obviously WP:SPEEDY candidates, and the repetitive nature of his actions makes me wonder what the appropriate steps to take are. I know WP:AIV doesn't seem appropriate here (ie not intended to "punish," etc.), but it looks like this is at least the third or fourth time this user has re-created the same page and he doesn't seem to be getting the message. Any thoughts? I don't want to do anything harsh -- kid is clearly putting a lot of effort behind what is just an unfortunately misguided project! Ginsengbomb (talk) 01:36, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Deleted Articles

Hey, why did you deleted my article? Meanie! Nah, just kidding there. :) But I do have a question concerning two deleted band pages: Bunnydrums and Malaria!. An editor at Talk:List of post-punk bands insists that they're notable and won't let the entries be removed. Some of the sources he referenced don't seem to be justifiable, but Bunnydrum's being in allmusic and barnesandnoble makes me wonder. What content did the deleted articles have and would the sources help? And if so, which would be simpler: deletion review or just start the articles anew? -WarthogDemon 03:40, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Spill.com

Hi, I recently created a new page for Spill.com. I'm not associated with the people previously trying to make this webpage but I do realize that it has been deleted a number of times for lack of reliability and notability. I would like to point out that first, the site has become more notable since then by winning an award for their podcasts, as mentioned here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast_Awards/ Secondly, I would like to point out that my references include two seminal newspaper articles that directly document the history and development of spill.com and they are much more reputable and direct then previous references involving cnn and other news sites --Smithers45 (talk) 08:45, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Well the only place that i copied any of the original deleted article was in the podcast and review style sections. I did however remove some of this bisases, profanity and general advertising for the site and added signifigantly more citations. I saved the rest of those parts because I have been an active member of the website and they generally were correct. I didn't get the text from deleted versions of the page, i got them from http://wikibin.org/articles/spill.com.html, which is another wiki site which operates under the GNU free documentation license. I did however write a completely rewritten lead, history and awards section which was completely original, along with more citations. After having created the page, i found the other user davidbrayer or whatever and i found that the history section he had used was directly copy and pasted from one of the Austin Chronicle news articles and thats why i would consider myself not associated with him. Considering it's a site that gets 1.5 million page views a month, it deserves a Wikipedia pageSmithers45 (talk) 17:22, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Wow, I'm incredibly dumb, Wikinbin being a place for a deleted article makes total sense now, sorry about that. I would agree that the only really comprehensive, third party article pertaining only to spill.com is the Austin chronicle one from 2008. Good morning. I've got an editor asking for this article to be undeleted. They attempted to add a DRV-undelete tag, but the article has not been sent to DRV or undeleted. The request on the article's talk page consists of the following text:

Dear Admin, A consensus on the page is not being reached because not enough time is being given for all parties to review before admin action is taken. Some parties work during the day and need at least a couple days to reply from other websites they are involved in. Please lock this page from editing till discussion can be finished. Thank you,SRobbins (talk) 21:57, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

I'll let the editor know that I posted this message, and that they should discuss the matter with you as the deleting admin. I'm also deleting the article and talk page as test pages - the article hasn't actually been undeleted, so the template is in error. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 16:04, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Gogo, not enough time was given for proper formatting. The article was up and taken down in a day. This makes it next to impossible for other editors to refine the site. More time is needed for Wikipedia:Peer review . Not to mention there was no peer review notice posted by the complainant. This standard procedure is what has always helped an article develop and evolve. I was in the process of gathering independent, published works as you mentioned when I came back to find the work I did deleted. So as you can see, this makes the editorial process very frustrating. The article also didn’t exist based on notability; it existed based on its significance. In reviewing the guidelines for speedy deletion it passes in this area as it is significant that such a widely used program by its industry does not have other sites dedicated to that use.
On a side note I have never had so many problems in all the years of editing for Wikipedia as I have in the past 2 years. It seems like most editors prefer to subtract from Wikipedia then to actually work on something go through the editorial process spirit that Wikipedia was founded on. I encourage Admins and moderators like yourself to demand more from these people then to just go forward with an deletion. Good luck and please ask for more from the editors who just read the guidelines to be able to pick apart other peoples work. Demand them to get involved and work on the article. Thank you for allowing the recreation of it, I will take all notes into consider before recreating. Again good luck and cheers, SRobbins (talk) 20:50, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Handling persistent vandal

I was particularly impressed with the prompt handling of User talk:Mikezvc who was exhibiting persistent vandalism. Just a few years ago, vandals were on the ascendant with editors such as myself on the defensive, required to "prove" beyond a reasonable doubt that a vandal was really a vandal! I questioned my involvement with Wikipedia. Some editors with longer service most likely became discouraged and left.

Mercifully, the corps of admins that then handled vandals was either replaced or outvoted by reformers and now a legitimate editor may experience maybe 20% of the vandalism we had then. Thanks to people like you! Student7 (talk) 23:21, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

(for the benefit of other readers, this vandal was handled even before I had the opportunity to complain about him! Student7 (talk) 23:26, 26 December 2009 (UTC))

jim bell article

I believe that I am the victim of a 'persistent vandal': Three times in the last 36 hours I have tried to edit the article, "Jim Bell", to add paragraphs. I am the subject of that article. Three times I have added paragraphs, three times the paragraphs were 'quickly' removed. There was nothing inflammatory, controversial, libelous, etc. I have not received any explanation for this deletion, either.James dalton bell (talk) 08:25, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Controversial subjects? 'jim bell' article

1. My allegations of forged documents date back to my June 2003 lawsuit, "James Dalton Bell v. District Courts of Tacoma and Seattle". Content has been on the web for 5+ years. _YOU_ shouldn't be trying to suppress my commentary, UNLESS you FIRST make the appropriate objections through talk:jim bell, and the community agrees. You appear to be engaging in 'drive-by-editing'. You DELETE things, within HOURS, deleting comments which are either non-controversial, or have been well reported on the Internet files on me. You do not put the deleted content on the talk:jim bell article for others to consider and comment on. I did. You've said NOTHING so far. You do so in an article ('jim bell') in which you do not regularly contribute. I'd call that 'drive-by-editing'. You probably do that a lot. 2. My discoveries on Climate Change (late June 2009) have been reported (by me) to 40+ foreign embassies, the (American) Dept of Energy (DOE), NIST (National Institutes on Standards and Technology), and two certified letters (two _each_!) to Al Gore and President Obama. The fact that I, Jim Bell, claim to have done this is VERIFIABLE: Give me a telephone call at 360-696-4308. Or, VISIT me at 7214 Corregidor, Vancouver WA 98664 (USA). Or, I would be happy to call you. I would also be happy to FAX you copies of the relevant letters. 3. I do not doubt that the Federal Government (nor its minions) believes that I should not be posting this news in a publicly-accessible area. 4. From reading dozens of other Wikipedia articles, it is quite clear that MANY of them contain little (or a limited amount) of publicly-available sourced statements. Yet, those articles remain unmolested. Mine, in contrast, does not. That's a 'double-standard'! —Preceding unsigned comment added by James dalton bell (talkcontribs) 22:36, 31 December 2009 (UTC) 5. After just seeing that you (or somebody) have, YET AGAIN, deleted EVERYTHING I, yet again, I must conclude that you have decided that you will simply not allow me to make ANY edits, changes, modifications, or additions to 'jim bell'. The extremely serious nature of your misconduct, its persistence and rapidity, strongly suggests that you are acting on 'someone's' behalf. In effect, your actions improperly 'defend' the article 'jim bell' 's CURRENTLY erroneous and biased content ('half-truths', etc). I'd say your actions constitute 'libel' and 'false light'. And yes, now I'm enough of a lawyer that I could write the entire lawsuit MYSELF. The odd thing is, I'm very much a supporter of the 'Wikipedia' idea. But manipulation ('politically' motivated) can be expected to occur, and HAS occurred, by you on others' behalf.—Preceding unsigned comment added by James dalton bell (talkcontribs)

Your 'reply' was nonsense. I am not objecting to your (or anyone else) deleting ANY posting, at ANY time. I am complaining, repeatedly and severely, about your malicious actions. Hint: Go back and actually RESPOND to my specific and detailed objections, above. You REPEATEDLY Italic textremove EVERYTHING I have added, an action which smacks not merely of censorship, but in fact carefully-directed sabotage. Further, you do not receive (or even seek!) a consensus from the community before you do your 'drive-bys'. Further, you don't put those deleted edits into any 'talk:' page for discussion, as if you are carefully trying to avoid letting any other user develop a contrary opinion. And, you also haven't responded to my assertions that there are extreme double-standards at work, relative to other Wiki articles: Other articles frequently, and in fact usually, have MANY unattributed statements, even when they also include citations. By repeatedly deleting EVERY posting I make, ALL ALL ALL of them (and not just portions) you are either hypocritically applying 'rules' that are already inconsistently employed, or you are demonstrating that you have been instructed to (or have taken it upon yourself to) delete 'everything' I post, without any exception whatsoever. Your complete inability to address these objections demonstrates this. And as for 'legal threats': Your self-serving comment merely points up YOUR problem. I was discussing LEGAL ISSUES, double-standards, and various examples of malicious and hostile behavior by you. And, Wiki's 'policy' (against 'legal threats', though I don't agree I made one!) does not bind me. Fix your head. Actually ANSWER my objections! I can easily see from others' objections that one of your practices is to VERY QUICKLY edit, usually by deleting, others' posts. You try to destroy: You don't build up. You don't contribute anything. You continue with your nonsense. No, you DID NOT tell me exactly 'why' my edits were removed. Rather, you tried to justify it based on a cockeyed reading of rules, rules which are in themselves biased: Somehow, you give preference to UNRELIABLE sources (articles, etc), and you resist accepting posts from an utterly reliable source! (Me.) Reliable, in the sense that I am me, and I am accurately posting what I have done, and believe, etc. There is no requirement that I post THIRD PARTY references to 'my allegatiions': All you need to do is to Google "James Dalton Bell v. USA, et al" (www.mail-archive.com/cypherpunks@cyberpass.net/msg00854.html) and you will see my own allegations of forged documents, written in June 2003. The ONLY question is, "Did Jim Bell make those allegations", NOT "Are those allegations TRUE"! (I suggest that you should have, INSTEAD of precipitately deleting the material, ASK me to cite online citations, if they exist. Why didn't you do that? Are you just so used to 'playing God' that it's 'beneath you' to ask a question or two, BEFORE throwing your lightning bolts?) As for my "global warming" discoveries: I did, indeed, sent numerous letters on the subject. Documents of this type, sent to the US Congress, Obama, NIST, and DOE, are generally considered public records. (See "Freedom of Information Act"). Verifying that I actually sent these letters, WHICH IS THE ONLY RELEVANT issue here, is easy: Put in a "FOIA" request. Even easier, I'd be happy to fax you a copy of these letters. Further, the reason that I posted SOME of the improperly-deleted content on the Talk: page is because YOU, improperly, DID NOT: You engaged in a 'drive-by edit': You did not seek or obtain consensus. You actively tried to avoid formation of that consensus. You said that I "...have received no consensus for their inclusion". Ha! In other words, you are implying that I must obtain a "consensus" for their "inclusion". In other words, that it is MY, PRIOR. burden of proof! To the contrary, my understanding is that there is NO REQUIREMENT that an editor obtain a consensus PRIOR TO posting material. So, I did not try to so. You, however, on multiple occasions were fully aware that you did not obtain consensus for their deletion, AND that I repeatedly posted the material, and you deleted the material QUICKLY in a clear attempt to prevent the community from even LEARNING of the existence of the issue. (It appears, from comments about you, that you have some 'priors' concerning this form of rude behavior: Not waiting for any sort of consensus to emerge.) Apparently, you believe that you didn't REQUIRE any sort of 'consensus' to justify the deletion, yet now you're implying that I was somehow required to obtain consensus for their INCLUSION. Further, your attempt to isolate the issue to MY article alone, fails. I have been objecting to highly inconsistent, hypocritical, biased, and malicious acts BY YOU. It is quite reasonable for me to cite the way things are ACTUALLY done, in other articles, in order to point out: 1. How you are actually NOT following, consistently, WP 'rules'. 2. How you are 'singling out' me for biased treatment. 3. Your interpretation of WP's rules is either WRONG, or is selectively malicious. For example, suppose the practice is actually to wait days, weeks, or even many months BEFORE doing a 'drive-by-delete', then THAT is the standard I feel I was, and remain, entitled to. A deletion in, say, 3 hours is obviously calculated to OBSTRUCT others from even LEARNING about the dispute!

So far, you're ignored every logical objection to your actions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by James dalton bell (talkcontribs)

Please read these sections - WP:BLP, WP:OR, WP:RS and WP:V and it may help you understand that there are no double standards being applied here, and that BLP policies are cut and dry. ArcAngel (talk) (review) 00:34, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
You, like 'Dodo', are wrong. Notice that 'Dodo' hasn't bothered to EXPLAIN, in detail, his actions. This is quite revealing! He must know that I am a 'new' user: Only on for about two weeks. Logic suggests that he should, carefully, EXPLAIN why he did something like deleting my posts, repeatedly, without even as much as asking the community. After all, why should he be RUDE, as he has been, when he cannot claim that I 'should know' not merely what the rules say, but also the way they are followed. Well, the simple answer may be that he does this kind of thing a lot: He may ORIGINALLY have been respectful, but maybe he's developed a practice of 'drive-by-edits'. He seems to have that reputation! But as tempting as it may be to assert that, I think his actions are far more detailed and specific, and malicious: His pattern of deletion of my posts is to delete ALL ALL ALL of my posts, not merely some fraction that (he would argue) violates some rule. So, the 'rule' (actually, the practice) he seems to be showing is this: "Do not allow James Dalton Bell to post ANYTHING, on any article, and certainly not on 'jim bell'." Will 'Dodo' deny this? So far, he's avoided commenting! 'Dodo' seems to do this by simply finding SOME reason to dislike my post (even just a small part of it, though he doesn't say), and then use this to 'justify' deleting everything. The best explanation, I think, is that somebody has put him up to it, and he wasn't careful enough to cover his tracks. And, a few other non-thinkers back him up. (Is that called 'sock puppetry' or 'meat puppetry'?) James dalton bell (talk) 11:26, 3 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by James dalton bell (talkcontribs)
