Age of Empires (video game)

Hi there. I'm currently working on the original Age of Empires article, and would like to know if you were willing to help with the cleanup and expansion of it. It'd be great if it reached FA status one day. If you have time, please let me know. Thanks, --EclipseSSD (talk) 21:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

It's on my watchlist; I'll pitch in as I can. Giggy (talk) 00:44, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

What the hell am I doing here?

If you're interested in carrying on with it, I did a bit of work on Creep (Radiohead song) back when I checked out Exit Music: The Story of Radiohead. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:34, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I think my edit patterns of late could be summarised by the section title. Giggy (talk) 11:03, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
My solution to such existential questions is an increased intake of lolcat pictures. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:24, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Aww geez, you know me so well! Giggy (talk) 11:30, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Loudness war guy sure is serious about the loudness war. SRSLY. I'm going to just sit back and let nature (ie. deletion and inevitable blockings) take its course. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:50, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Why did you strike me as someone not likely to be aware of Internet memes? Giggy (talk) 11:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
I have a few friends whose entire sense of humor is based around internet memes. Speaking of which: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRzTfgds0UI WesleyDodds (talk) 11:58, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
That just made my day... and on that note: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 Giggy (talk) 12:02, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm one of the few people who sees a YouTube link and instantly thinks "Oh, I hope I get Rick Rolled today!" That man is a genius. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:04, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Aww, geez, way to ruin the moment. Giggy (talk) 12:11, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
We can both take comfort in the fact that Rick Astley has not succumbed to the loudness war as of yet. WesleyDodds (talk) 12:15, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Now I dread to think what the 2009 rickroll is going to sound like. Giggy (talk) 12:36, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I believe I have addressed your comments on the FAC. Could you review my changes and replies?

Thanks for commenting,

Commons third opinion

Hey, Giggy, since you're a Commons guy, would you mind taking a look at this? We don't have many Commons dabblers at WP:3O, so we aren't sure about where to go for dispute resolution there. bibliomaniac15 04:55, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Thought you should know

My new hero. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Now mine also. Giggy (talk) 03:58, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Ugh. Reading some of the responses to my post about the progress of my genre guidelines proposal reminds of why I prefer to stick to writing articles. Because then I can actually get important shit on Wikipedia done. Sorry to comment on your talk page about this, but I know you've had your issues here from time to time, and I'm seriously close to throwing the whole thing out in favor of doing a rewrite of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns in the article space. WesleyDodds (talk) 07:37, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
I get the feeling you don't want my honest opinion right now. Giggy (talk) 09:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC) My honest opinion is ewwwwwww, Batman... but yes I see your point. Will go and look at the discussions.

Addshore's RfA

I'm unconvinced that your tagline is constructive and will do anything other than stir up drama. If you have additional arguments to present, present them in your !vote - that's what RfA is about. But your comment is unspecific to the candidate and comes across as bad-tempered and whingeing about RfA in general. If you want to express some kind of general comment about RfA, the place for it is WT:RFA, not a candidate's RfA page. I'd be most grateful if you would quickly remove the comment yourself. --Dweller (talk) 10:19, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

It has been removed. I still agree with what I said there - trying to get more admins is a good idea; deliberately lowering standards to the point where anyone can pass... not so much. IMO. I'm not saying you or Addshore are bad people, just that I don't like where this is headed. Giggy (talk) 10:40, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
<e/c> Thanks for doing that. Your comments are reasonable - the kind of thing that can be discussed at WT:RFA. I have perhaps an unusual response, but I'll leave it for there. --Dweller (talk) 10:44, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Giggy, although I don't agree with your take on this (and even found it a bit irksome), I didn't mind that you said it in an RfA. Gwen Gale (talk) 10:42, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

*shrugs* I don't have the time or enthusiasm to debate it right now. If people found it irksome it's probably better somewhere where it isn't stirring up drama... there's plenty more of that around without me contributing to it. Giggy (talk) 10:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
I wasn't debating, only wanted to let you know what I thought, I also think it's cool you don't want to stir up drama :) Cheers, Gwen Gale (talk) 10:55, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Really bad timing!

Ack. Done the best I can considering I did a nine hour day today, I'll come back tomorrow night and have another look. I might also ask Afe (Halo-17's copyeditor) if he can give it a bit of a one-over, he's a big Augie fan so I might be able to talk him into it. Lankiveil (speak to me) 11:49, 5 November 2008 (UTC).

Peer review

Hey, I noticed that you do music peer reviews. Any chance you could do one for McBride & the Ride, which I've just nominated? I'm trying to get this to GA. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 22:48, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words on WP:AC2008

I'm not sure, but I would guess that copyright violations are oversighted when the copyright holder is particularly interested in having the material removed—I'm not sure what those situations might be beyond it says at Wikipedia:Oversight#Policy. Cool Hand Luke 03:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

McBride & the Ride

What else is there to say about them, really? The sources don't really flesh out more of the details, and they never had any major awards or even nominations. Almost nobody outside of the very terse Allmusic and Entertainment Weekly sources reviewed them, either (Country Weekly didn't exist until April 1994, for one). Heck, Allmusic didn't even give a track listing or album art for their third album (good thing I actually have said album!). Copyeditor

I've emailed the person I have in mind, just waiting on a response. Lankiveil (speak to me) 11:58, 12 November 2008 (UTC).

Hey DH - er, Giggy, would you be willing to peer review Luan Da? Thanks in advance. Nousernamesleft (talk) 01:09, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

G'day Wikimedian :-)

Whilst it's quite likely you'll have heard this news on the grapevine, in your email inbox, or even in person - I thought that it was sufficiently exciting to warrant giving each of you a 'new messages' orange bar! This particular orange bar has been brought to you to let you know that Wikimedia Australia is now open for members!

I'm not on the committee or anything, and that's where the credit is due in getting everything to this point, but I think it would be absolutely fantastic for folks who wish to support the australian wiki community, to go ahead and sign up - we're quite likely to be the world's fatest growing chapter at the moment! Join Us :-)

Here's a little more about membership, and the mailing list in particular is well worth signing up to as well, and is a good forum to get answers to any questions answered, or to share any ideas. I've dropped these notes in under my own steam, and you've received one because you're on this list - feel free to ask me any questions, or anything - I can certainly point you in the right direction :-) cheers all, Privatemusings (talk) 04:04, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Ceiling Cat watches you post

Is it just me, or is the uploader info for several of the pictures in the Morrissey article rather suspect? I doubt whomever put those there has the permission to release them into the public domain. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

McBride & the Ride

I noticed you haven't said anything at the peer review since I added some more info. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 19:18, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

I've been busy. I don't really have much more to say, if you've fixed up all the issues I raised... Giggy (talk) 00:22, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Created Template for GA Review

Hi! I just created a template here: User:Backslash_Forwardslash/Reviewing, for use when first creating a review page but not adding comments. I'm relatively new to WP:GAN, but I was wondering if you wanted to improve it and put it into general use. Thanks \ / () 10:44, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

People just generally write "Hi, I'm reviewing this article, comments soon" or something like that, but I don't see what's wrong with the template. I'm not particularly active around GAN at the moment. You could try promoting it at WT:GAN. Giggy (talk) 00:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

My stance on oversight / WP:ACE2008

My survey of arbitrators confirms that oversight is basically never used when resolving cases, but one arbitrator had a very thoughtful reply that made me reconsider my position. Although I don't ever need to oversight revisions myself, I will take oversight access for the sole purpose of independently evaluating evidence and reviewing the conduct of users who have oversight. Cool Hand Luke 01:53, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. Giggy (talk) 05:47, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Portal help

Hey there Giggy, I noticed you were listed at the Portal Review volunteers list. I was wondering if you could take a look at the portal I've been working on, Portal:Brazil, and possibly peer review it here. Thanks. Sunderland06 (talk) 16:24, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I doubt I'll have the time to do so. Giggy (talk) 06:24, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

GA reform redux

I've recently had a chat with a couple of the contributors, and we think it may be worth revisiting the GA reform proposal put together by the working party during the Summer. Since you contributed to the proposal's development, I was wondering if you'd care to comment? I've left a brief recap at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/Reform#GA reform redux; your input would be much appreciated. Thank you, EyeSerenetalk 13:23, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry; my activity in general, and especially around the GA project, is at a minimum. :( Giggy (talk) 13:30, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

You understand these things…

Do you have any idea what the answer to this question is? – iridescent 19:32, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Led Zeppelin

Can you take a look at Led Zeppelin and then respond on my talk page with a few paragraphs of advice in an overview of where to start on getting it ready for peer review for GA status? Don't worry about specifics, just generalities and maybe an example or two of really bad copy. I would also really appreciate a good look at how to fix the article lead and get rid of all those footnotes without inviting a bunch of {{fact}} tags. No rush, but please let me know if you can't do it and I'll bug someone else. Sswonk (talk) 19:11, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Commons

Hey Giggy, If I remember correctly you are a crat on the Commons. I have a coachee who is putting keep local tags on things he uploaded here... but I am not familiar enough with images/the Commons/or the Keep Local tag to know if what he is doing is acceptable. I was wondering if I could get your opinion/input. Here's his user page where he explained his actions.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 13:47, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

There is nothing wrong with requesting images are not deleted here if/when copied to Commons (equally, there is nothing wrong with moving images to Commons and keeping a copy here). So no, he's doing nothing wrong (and let me know if you need to me to say so on his RfA or anything). Giggy (talk) 23:48, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks Giggy, I didn't think so, but I needed an expert opinion. Also, I wanted to let you know, your voice is one of the 4 or 5 people whose opinion means a lot to me at RfA's... when I see you support a person, I know that you are doing so because you believe in that person, when you oppose a person, there is a reason.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 00:47, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
:-) Giggy (talk) 00:47, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
I mentioned it because there are a few people who, when I nom a candidate, I am happy to see support---it affirms my impression of the candidate. Your Strong Support of Jclemens means a lot.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 01:05, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

RfA thanks

The RfA Barnstar
Giggy/Archive, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:29, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey there.
