Ganeshbot stubs

Hi, I noticed that these stubs have stub-categories, which in turn belong to taxonomic categories. Sometimes these taxonomic cats don't exist.

Reading the BRFA, I think the "correct" form is actually <br />. Trivial but you may wish to change it.

Rich Farmbrough, 04:52, 5 May 2010 (UTC).

Notes to self:
  • Check why Scutellina did not get created.
  • Add space in <br />.

Neritimorpha complete

Hello Ganesh, all RECENT Neritimorpha is complete: only four families with few data are on WoRMS and they can be imported. --Snek01 (talk) 22:27, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Cerithioidea

Helo Ganesh, I would like to inform you, that I have finished checking of Cerithioidea User:Snek01/Taxonomy#Clade_Sorbeoconcha and I will check other caenogastropods in the future. --Snek01 (talk) 22:48, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Okay. Can you suggest intro sentences for each of those families? Ganeshk (talk) 12:07, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
All of them can have the same introductory sentence with no common name of the family (there are more than one various common names in one family Turrtellidae or I do not consider common name of the family useful in the Cerithiidae, that is often changing.).

yyyyyyyyyyyy is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family xxxxxxxxxxxx.

Not updated database?

Hello, there are not all species listed in Tenagodus. There are many minor problems with records on WoRMS that can be easily manually corrected but this one is quite interesting. I guess, that this is probably caused by an not updated database, but I would like to inform you about it. Because it can be a complication for theoretical further updates from WoRMS. --Snek01 (talk) 12:21, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

Species list request

Hello Ganesh, could you generate the list of generated articles for species of Calliostoma (into the article) and also for Conus into List of Conus species, please? I will do the rest. --Snek01 (talk) 16:59, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

List of Conus species

Hi Ganeshk! Well, well, 19,445 gastropod pages. Some sort of Wikichampagne will soon be in order. I added { { main|List of Conus species } }. I hope that's okay. Do you think we should remove the bulk of the list of species in Conus? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:16, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Genus articles with faulty species lists

I wrote to Susan about this synonym problem here and she replied here.

Do you think there is some clever program that can look at an existing genus article and then look at the corresponding WoRM's page and red flag articles with faulty species lists? Or, can it maybe even auto-create the species list and replace the faulty one currently in the article? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Shell books

Hi Ganesh, Glad to see you bought a shell book! The Simon and Schuster's guide is pretty good in many ways and I hope you are enjoying it, however I wanted to recommend what I think is an excellent little book that gives a very good sense of the families:

Automated addition of {{TaxonIds}}

Hi there! Thanks for your help with getting {{TaxonIds}} off the ground. User:Rdmpage just finished setting up a mapping from NCBI Taxonomy ids to Wikipedia, and we're hoping to use that dataset to automatically add this template on existing taxon pages. I was hoping you'd be interested in joining in the discussion. Cheers! -- Gaurav (talk) 18:41, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

Project News

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

Regarding Chennai edit

Hi Ganesh,

Thanks for your message. The content I am pasting seems to be of pertinent nature to the City. Kindly add it to the article. If you want I shall polish the words, but it is very much require to include this content as the travelers and other tourist all over the world may access this information regarding city and they may suffer later. I believe the information is good but insufficient. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaurav.bhardwaj07 (talkcontribs) 10:19, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Chennai Wikipedia

Hi Ganesh,

No its not at all my personal opinion. That's a verity about Chennai and must be a part of the city information. After much deliberation at many forums we have decided to include that in wikipedia. I don't wanna mess up with the article but we are sure to include it here. I will polish my words may be so it looks a little better. Also we can avoid bold fonts. Please understand you are from Chennai and may be don;t feel so but other in India do and really do feel this way and for sure I ain't talking about maself alone. Thanks!

Importance rating of genus articles

Hi Ganesh, Thanks for all of your ongoing work on the Gastropods Project, it is much appreciated. I just wanted to mention that all genus articles should be tagged as "importance=mid". I noticed today that the recent Ranellidae genus stub talk pages had an "importance=low" rating. I changed a couple of them, but not all of them. Best wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 00:53, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay. I will add mid-importance for genus articles going forward. Ganeshk (talk) 13:50, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay if you wanna do it this way!! Am ready

Hi Ganesh,

Thanks for your reply which really helped me making ma mind further to it. I am going to alter this article and blocking is a very bad idea. This is not ma bank account man... who cares?? And yeah it's an opinion of many people in India. It's a natural fact about Chennai now. Its a property of Chennai. All the best to you for your future hardwork!!

Needing a list of old gastropod stubs...

Hi Ganesh, how are you? Thanks for all your good work, it is much appreciated. I wanted to ask if you know whether I can somehow get hold of an old list of the gastropod stubs (from the letter Q to the letter Z), before Ganeshbot started generating new ones? The list of the second half of the alphabet from last autumn would be about 2,000 stubs I think, probably not 3,000. I need to go through them to fix up the ones that need fixing up a bit more than Daniel fixed them. They already have italic title and up to date taxonomy, but a lot of them need more work to bring them up to our new basic standard. Many thanks for your help, Invertzoo (talk) 13:16, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

You are very kind Ganesh. I don't know what we would do without your invaluable assistance! We would be back in the dark ages! Invertzoo (talk) 18:38, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. New Project

Hi I have noticed you have created new project for Chennai, Orissa, Punjab etc. I have tried creating one for Hyderbad myself. I had put in a request on discussion page and for one week there was no response so I tried it. I think I have goofed it up. Can you check up Wikipedia:WikiProject Hyderabad ? Thanks and regards. Cleanup

Hi, Ganeshk! I have a question about the categories on the Russian cities and towns, which your bot tagged for this CfD. The CfD has by now been closed, yet the CfD tags in categories such as Category:Cities and towns in Kirov Oblast remain. Could you, please, set the bot at those categories and have the CfD notices removed? Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); June 17, 2010; 13:37 (UTC)

Phalium bot approval

This bot links to a page about approval for creating Conus articles. Is there a page for the approval for creating Pholium articles? Can you provide a link? (JaRoad (talk) 22:16, 15 August 2010 (UTC))

I asked about the bot here.[1] It appears to have been approved to create Conus articles rather than to pull all of WoRMS into Wikipedia. JaRoad (talk) 22:42, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents

I posted this problem elsewhere. [2] I ask you to stop using the bot until the issue is resolved. Your articles are bad. The facts are incorrect. The species are not verified. JaRoad (talk) 23:53, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Request for bot approval to be revoked

You requested approval for 580 articles then took this to mean you could make 15,000 species stubs without an additional request for approval. I have asked for the bot approval to be revoked and the articles you created to be verified individually and/or deleted from wikiepdia.
