Pushing an agenda

[edit]

Hi Dante8,

I notice that virtually all of your edits have consisted of removing images of male religious figures, adding images of female religious figures, and moving them to the most prominent locations, even in articles on topics like Imam and Rabbi where there are virtually no women at all who serve in the role. This is intended to be an encyclopedia, not a vehicle for advocacy. Articles should describe reality, and therefore should discuss but should not give undue prominence to particular points of view or historical counterexamples. Thanks for your attention to this.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 22:58, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Priest has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/wiccantraditions/p/Gardnerian.htm.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 22:44, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Stewardesses for Women's Rights. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. In this edit you removed vary valid templates without doing anything to address the underlying problem. Drmies (talk) 14:40, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your name has been mentioned in connection with a sockpuppetry case. Please refer to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dante8 for evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to cases before editing the evidence page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schrandit (talkcontribs)

A tag has been placed on Urmi Basu requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Nomination of Nathalie Morin for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Nathalie Morin, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nathalie Morin until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Burpelson AFB (talk) 23:54, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing while logged out

[edit]

It is not allowed to edit while logged out to create the false illusion of support, or to evade a policy such as WP:3RR. Per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dante8, I have blocked the IP you used for 1 week; you may continue to edit while logged in. However, if you continue to do so, you may find this account blocked as well. T. Canens (talk) 04:51, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I myself would also would request again that you reply here, Dante8, on the many issues surrounding your edits. This is a community project, and we are supposed to collaborate with each other. Part of collaboration includes discussing things with other editors. A recent case I was part of led to my realization that to ignore other editors is actually considered disruptive. Under this guideline: "Does not engage in consensus building: repeatedly disregards other editors' questions or requests for explanations concerning edits or objections to edits." For you to continue to edit and not talk to anyone despite repeated requests, you are being "borderline" disruptive: it's a bad habit to keep. Please speak up... Ok I will not edit or post requests while logged out anymore and I will only access wikipedia from this computer. Please excuse if this was not the place where I was supposed to reply to your complaints, as I could not find any other place.

It's totally fine to access Wikipedia from other computers, so long as you log in. What you cannot do is come in from different IPs on anonymous IP accounts, as this gives the illusion of your being multiple people. So long as you log-in, you can edit from any IP since your account will still be the listed editor. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:28, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ConcernedVancouverite (talk) 21:31, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Debbie Goddard has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I nominated for speedy, and it was contested claiming she is notable for some of her positions. I am unable to locate reliable sources to establish such notability, but am changing the CSD to PROD in case someone else can find such reliable secondary sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. In Einat Ramon, you recently added links to the disambiguation pages Jewish Theological Seminary and Sabra (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

I've noticed...

[edit]

that many of your articles or Articles for Creations have references that have to be re-written to then make them conform to Wikipedia standards. I know you're not a beginner, but please take a look at referencing for beginners - it's full of good helps, especially using the Reference Tool. You've been consistently using bare URLs as references, and bare URLs are prone to link rot, which can create ongoing issues for the verifiability of your editing work.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bernice Sandler requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Rotorcowboy talk

Removing Speedy at Bernice Sandler

[edit]

Hi Dante8, you recently removed a deletion tag from Bernice Sandler. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 18:09, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not a notable subject. Claim given for notability is utterly false - in 2003 a Truck Series team fielded an entirely female pit crew.

Editing while logged out and/or WP:Sockpuppeting, and creating articles

[edit]

Looking at your and this IP's edit histories, and the fact that this IP already knew about the Asexual American history article you'd created very soon after its creation, an article I redirected soon after its creation, it is clear that you are that IP. Unless it's to avoid scrutiny and/or to sockpuppet, I'm not sure why you are intermittently editing as an IP and as Dante8, but you should stop doing that. If it were a case of you being lazy and not wanting to sign in or not having the time to sign in, it would be different. But that is not what you are doing in some of the cases I have seen (from your contributions), like your editing of sexual orientation topics the previous hour. Furthermore, per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dante8/Archive, you've been warned to edit only while logged in. Sure, that was three years ago, but I'm sure that you haven't forgotten about that. I'm also suspicious of this editor having suddenly popped up around the same time you did the previous hour, as I suspect that editor (whose Wikipedia contributions are very sporadic) is you as well. You need to read Wikipedia's sockpuppet policy and follow it. You may think that you've been doing nothing wrong by the aforementioned intermittent editing, but that type of editing will get you in trouble at this site.

And when you create a Wikipedia article, make sure that it doesn't have any of the problems that I named the Asexual American history article as having. If you or anyone else recreates that article, I will redirect it again...either because it still has those aforementioned issues and/or because any valid, reliable history about asexuality can be covered in the Asexuality article. There is no reason that such information cannot be covered there, considering that there is currently sparse research on asexuality and therefore the Asexuality article is not big; see WP:SIZE. Since you obviously know that bare urls shouldn't be used for references (people have asked you to stop doing this numerous times and you even tag your own creations with a bare url cleanup tag) please fix your references. It shouldn't be everyone else's job to clean up messes you willfully create. Helpsome (talk) 16:50, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

America

[edit]

Wikipedia tends to be careful about using America when we mean the United States. Other people in the Western Hemisphere prefer that one country not monopolize the term. Thus:

There are counter examples when a term is deeply rooted, like American literature, but that's more the exception. See American history. The fact that you've named many lists badly is no reason to continue.

Note as well that using the word "history" as you've done when creating a timeline doesn't make sense. All timelines are history by definition. Worst of all is using lingo like second-phase feminism. Only someone already well acquainted with feminism will have any idea what that means. That really isn't a way to help the a Wikipedia user. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:17, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Worldwide

[edit]
And why worldwide? Why this:
Timeline of women in warfare from 1940 until 1944 worldwide

Why not this:

Timeline of women in warfare from 1940 until 1944

Aside from using the word "worldwide", which is completely unnecessary, this is not a subject worthy of a timeline. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 12:12, 22 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Timeline of women in the United States, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Mother Earth, Henry Blackwell and Mother Jones (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Plko

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Plko requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 02:37, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dante8, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Timeline of feminism in the United States has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 06:16, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Women in Israel into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Dougweller (talk) 13:30, 9 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Gay men in American history may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s and 2 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • group=note>Andrews v. Vanduzer, [[Supreme Court of New York|N.Y.Sup.]] 1814 (January Term, 1814) (Vanduzer accused Andrews of having had connection with a cow and then a mare and the court

Formatting citations

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for the addition to the Carolee Schneemann article. I thought I'd let you know about a couple of tricks for fomatting citations:

A couple of other tools are, specific to the type of citation are:

  • Refinks for web pages, run after the bare link was added to the article
  • reftag.appspot.com/ which is used for books found on Google, you just enter the url and press enter and it will create the citation template in a window that can be copied into the article.--20:55, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  MER-C 12:30, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Given your near complete lack of communication, I need an assurance that you understand the copyright policy, will pay attention to this page and respond to the concerns of other editors before allowing you to continue editing. You can show this by following the unblocking instructions above. MER-C 12:30, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Near complete" lack of communication is right: over 4,000 edits, and a mere 1.2% devoted to communicating with others.[4] Throw in copyright violations, and that's much worse than an editor who merely lives in their own world. Dante8 has been on my watchlist for some time, and they steadfastly refuse to engage fellow editors. It's time not only to say goodbye, but probably to go back and scrutinize their contributions. Doc talk 12:44, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. MER-C 12:52, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
MER-C and Doc9871, until looking in the edit history of the Gay pride article and spotting Dante8, I, until now, missed that he is now indefinitely blocked, despite the fact that this talk page is on my WP:Watchlist. Per the #Editing while logged out and/or WP:Sockpuppeting, and creating articles section above, I'm glad that he is now indefinitely blocked. Flyer22 (talk) 06:29, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But also per that aforementioned section above, I'm certain that he is still editing Wikipedia. Flyer22 (talk) 06:31, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
