RFA thanks

[edit]

Thank you, Cometstyles, for your constructive comments in my recent RFA, which passed with 86 support, 8 oppose, and 5 neutral !votes. I will keep in mind all your suggestions and/or concerns, and will try to live up to your standards. Please, if you have any comments or complaints about my actions as an administrator, leave a note on my talk page, and I will respond as soon as I possibly can, without frying my brain, of course.
Thank you once more,

Reporting usernames to AIV

[edit]

Hi Cometstyles! When reporting usernames to AIV, please make sure your report does not merely say "Username is a clear violation of the username policy" - please state how it is a violation. This is from the green box on the main AIV page:

New usernames that blatantly violate the username policy may be listed. However, any reports should still be accompanied with an explanation as to how the policy is violated. "Username is a clear violation of policy" is not sufficient.

This makes it helpful to admins who are, say, trying to clear an AIV backlog and don't want to have to examine each username individually, and it's also just general good practice. Thanks, and keep up the good work. – Riana 15:13, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, it was clear. I'm just saying that it should still be appended with an appropriate explanation - per the first 2 sentences of my quote above - as it's good practice. Cheers, – Riana 15:28, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Comets! I just followed the links of the main page and created them, so some of them happen to have different disambiguations, so they should be moved. I dont know what ranking to give them, could ytou do that? Goldman07 16:38, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help with WP:ACC! As an admin, my usual action is to look through the requests where the similarity has been checked by another user, and create the ones that seem appropriate (at which point the bot removes them from the list); without the work you (and other users) do there, I wouldn't be creating accounts at all. Do you know if there's a tag that can be put in a section to tell the bot to decline a request (e.g. when the username's impossible or too similar to an established account)? --ais523 12:43, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

WP:ACC - your comment about "I think it's okay"

[edit]

FYI, if you get the message about your quota - this means that if not for the quota limit, you would have been able to create the account. Od Mishehu 19:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request an account

[edit]

When you are unable to create an account, because it's too similar to another, don't ask users to choose another name. Often administrators can, and will, create the accounts- while users cannot create these similar accounts, admins can. That having been said, thanks for the help. Test Results

[edit]

Hey Comets, remember I proposed the flag system in the Test team boxes? (here). I thought since no one objected, I'd make a start. I have done all the Tier one teams so far, and I think it looks great. Want to help out doing some more :) :) ? Goldman07 06:59, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just got your other message. No worries re: PNC. The venues still need to be put in though. Also, you know alot about Fijian rugby dont you? I was thinking we should get all their players in the Fiji 2003 World Cup Squad template done, especially since it is on one FA article. Goldman07 08:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't bite the newbies

[edit]

Hey, I think this comment [1] in Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/nuclearj. Was a little unkind. The editor only joined Wikipedia today- he doesn't know an RfA is a bad idea or why people would oppose him. If you are going to comment on these hopeless RfAs from very new editors- please make them feel welcome and make constructive comments about how they can help out without being an admin. UAA

[edit]

UAA is just a proposed board and should not be used at the moment. Blatant username violations should still be reported to WP:AIV as it stands. Cheers. Will (aka Wimt) 17:57, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I think Twinkle is rather under development on the username front at the moment so you may need to add them manually at AIV. Will (aka Wimt) 18:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Your two recent reports are adding section headers to the page, and as far as I know, it shouldn't be done that way. Do we need to have TW modified? Flyguy649talkcontribs 13:41, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your IRC help and for putting the template on my user page. Though you didn't even compliment me for what I managed to do on my talk page. ;) Maybe you can do me a favor and explain to me how the userboxes on my User:HG page get aligned. [edit]

Image:Def04.jpg I wish to know why the image is under Non-Free Fair Use.

I have taken the image myself, using my own camera, and would like to share it with everyone, without any conditons.

Fact is i'm really stupid, and have no idea about licensing. Anyways, i "own" all rights for the picture.

Can you please fix the description of th image Image:Def04.jpg Also, i have MANY more photos that i have taken myself, using my own camera :) Can i upload those too? How about uploading to Wikimedia Commons since i do not realy care who uses the image or how it is used... CyberoidX 10:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What's the purpose of User:Cometstyles/sandbox2? The main problem I have with that one is the fact it contains links to Example.ogg and Example.com, which I try to eliminate wherever possible to make it possible to find editing experiments/vandalism using the toolbar buttons. If you put that one just for your personal reference - can you add nowiki statements around the links? andy 11:05, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HI there!

[edit]

I'll have a look at your article tomorrow (it's 1.20am where I am, and I need to get some sleep for now) and see what I can add to it. Yes, I'm flat out at the moment. Working full time and also doing some intensive study (computer programming) doesn't leave as much time for wikipedia as I would like, and I'm missing it terribly. I'm squeezing in a few minutes for it tonight, and will again tomorrow, but serious editing will have to wait till the school holidays in June. I'll attend to your article, and one or two others, thought. Great hearing from you! David Cannon 13:22, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Cometstyles, I noticed you made a report to WP:UFA and you added your reports above the ones I had made, please remember to add them to the bottom - below the existing requests so the oldest can be dealt with first, great work there! Regards — The Sunshine Man 15:12, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

[edit]

Hi.

I stumbled across your name at the help desk (and I've seen you around).

After looking over your contributions, I have to admit I'm impressed.

So I dug a little further, and I found your recently failed RfA.

The errors cited seem rather minor, though they do raise trustworthiness and human relations issues. Admins are expected to remain neutral, and indeed, help enforce Wikipedia's neutrality policy. They are also expected to remain calm, courteous, and non-combative at all times (i.e., no insults or personal attacks). If you feel that you have learned the errors of your ways, and are ready to prove your merit and learn the finer points of Wikipedianism, then perhaps I can help...

I have specialized somewhat in helping Wikipedians become better editors and to prepare for adminship, and I have coached 3 admins so far, 2 of those having suffered through a failed RfA. If you would like an admin coach, let me know, and you'll have 5 coaches (all my previously graduated students, another coach, and myself would serve you as co-coaches). I do have a couple of conditions though, and they are that you...

  1. don't go for another RfA or accept an RfA nomination until I think you are ready.
  2. take the advice provided by your coaches and your fellow students to heart (this will be a group effort)

Please let me know if you agree, and if so, we can get started.
I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist    20:34, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm (possibly) one of the chaps The Transhumanist is alluding to. I'll give you 100% backing in getting up to speed. Just say the word(s). The Rambling Man 20:36, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the helpme template...

[edit]

Hey, I know that the general policy is to remove the helpme template after someone has given help, but in this case it really needed to be left a little longer. The person who responded wasn't completely able to answer the question, and made a note that he was leaving the template up intentionally so someone else would come along and help further. As it is, I happened to be responding while you were removing the template, so it wasn't an issue, but I just wanted to bring this to your attention so you'd be aware of it in the future. It's not the first time I've seen the template intentionally left up, and I've done it myself once or twice. Thanks! See you around. Hersfold (talk/work) 23:19, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
