Hi! I am Ranjit K Sharma from India, known on Wikipedia by my username Editorranjitksharma.

Besides being a proud Wikipedian, I am a father, a son, a husband, a law-abiding Indian citizen, a small-time ethical hacker, an editorial and content professional, grammar book series author, UN-award-winning social entrepreneur, spiritual thought leader, blogger, voice artiste, YouTuber and a crusader against road rage (Zero Tolerance to Road Rage). This is but a partial list of things that I think I do. For, my mind keeps on flitting between several things different all at the same time!

Professionally, I am serving as Director, Publishing at an ed-tech organisation.

My Twitter handle is @ranjitksharma and LinkedIn profile is in.linkedin.com/in/ranjitksharma. This is my Instagram profile.

My idea to promote Wikipedia

[edit]

Target the Aware Users

[edit]

Target the aware users to develop confidence in Wiki so that these enthusiasts in turn can promote Wikipedia among non-aware users.

I think the inherent fluid nature of Wikpedia (anybody can edit) affects the credibility and authenticity among aware users. This may also be adversely affecting the prospects of aware users promoting Wikipedia to non-aware users. Here is a discussion on how Wikipedia enthusiasts can help in spreading the benefits of Wikipedia despite its fluid nature among aware users. I think a majority of aware users with a positive mindset about the utility of Wikipedia can promote Wikipedia among non-aware users with more confidence.

Aware users
[edit]

Among aware users, Wikipedia may attempt to position itself as a source of first-hand information about any topic that may be used in the following way:

  • When the user does not want an authentic source: Wikipedia articles can be used as exhaustive amalgamation of facts under a given topic. School children can find immense help from Wikipedia in completing their homework.
  • When the user wants an authentic source: Wikipedia articles can still be used as exhaustive amalgamation of relevant information under a given topic. Researches and advanced students can either use the given reference links to verify facts or visit authentic websites to verify each fact.
Non-aware users
[edit]

I think a sizeable component of the 33% unaware users in India lies among the rural Indian teachers and students. Therefore, I think, Wiki enthusiasts and confident volunteers need to reach out to these people. Maybe they would need to associate with like-minded individuals and organisations to provide infrastructural assistance also.
