Tetris Forever is a 2024 video game compilation and documentary developed by Digital Eclipse. Released in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Tetris, the compilation is set to include different Tetris games, including the new game Tetris Time Warp.
Tetris Forever is part of Digital Eclipse's Gold Master Series of interactive documentaries, which features a timeline of the game's history featuring key people in the involvement of Tetris such as Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers as well as playable games. The compilation is set for release on November 12, 2024 for various video game systems.
Development
[edit]Tetris Forever is developed by Digital Eclipse. It is third entry in the developer's Gold Master Series of documentary video game hybrid releases, following The Making of Karateka (2023) and Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story (2024).[1][2] As with other releases, the games are presented in a digital museum format, divided into interactive timelines. These feature photographs, scans of original advertisements, and 90 minutes of documentary footage about the history of Tetris and the key players involved such as Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers.[2][3]
Tetris Forever will include several different Tetris games. These include a recreation of Alexey Pajitnov's original 1984 version of Tetris for the Electronika 60, the 1988 Apple II version developed by Spectrum Holobyte, and several other Tetris titles developed by Bullet-Proof Software between 1988 and 1998, some of which have never previously been released outside of Japan.[4][2][5] A new game included in the compilation is Tetris Time Warp, which supports up to four players, alternating between gameplay styles across the series in real time as they complete each board.[3]

Release
[edit]Tetris Forever was announced during a Nintendo Direct stream on August 27, 2024.[3] It is set for release on November 12, 2024 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and for PC through Steam and GOG.[2][7][8] The release is in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the original Tetris.[7]
