Parameter scan

I just had a bot run through all the transclusions, and check the parameter usage

The first table is for parameters not found in the template, with a truncated list of articles using the missing parameters. Note that this only parameters which are nowhere in the template, so missing and not tracked. The second table is a list of parameter usage counts. I will fix some of the obvious typos if I have some time, and will regenerate the lists if there has been any progress made on cleaning them up. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 01:49, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
This is very helpful. Thanks! I will start manually updating those articles in the first table with the full updated infobox, as it isn't much IMO (most are repeated articles). Rehman 02:41, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Now updated. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 01:07, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi Plastikspork. Much of the articles in the above table is now updated. Would you be able to update the table again please? Articles using any parameters not on the doc page should be listed as "Articles using missing parameters". Thanks! Rehman 15:09, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
Done, the parameters which are in the template, but not in the documentation, are marked as "D", and included in the more detailed list. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:39, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks! As for the parameter worst_possible_res_water_level, wow, just wow... Rehman 13:29, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
Hi Plastikspork. Can you update the table once more please? :) Rehman 07:20, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
Updated. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:38, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
Updated per request. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 02:57, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

I fixed some parameters. We're now left with only "max_capacity", "max_planned_cap", "plant_owner", and "pumped_storage". I think there should be no issue with ignoring the first two completely, as it isn't in the skeleton in the first place anyway. For plant owner, can we simply move the data to the existing "plant_operator" field? And for "pumped_storage", I think we need to change all infoboxes of articles using these to {{Infobox power station}}... Any comments? We're close to finally finishing this forever-dragged project I believe... Rehman 15:05, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

I'd gone thru Category:Pages using infobox dam with deprecated parameters and cleaned it out. I know other similar deprecated parameter cats keep track of unknown parameters, Football category and Broadcast infobox category for example. How about adding the four params left and any unknown parameters to the tracking category? That way there's always an upto date list. Bgwhite (talk) 09:34, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Plastikspork. If you don't mind, could you please assist with this final step, so that we can permanently close this case as well? The following needs to be done, in order to finish the maintenance for this template:

  1. Move max_capacity and max_planned_cap to plant_capacity, if plant_capacity is blank, else remove field and content completely. It hasn't been supported in the template for months, and wont be added in the foreseeable future.
  2. Move plant_owner to existing plant_operator. Same as above.
  3. Update list again, and leave pumped_storage as it is, for manual action.

Thanks in advance! --Rehman 16:02, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Rehman, I updated the list again. Given the low number of articles left in the first table, I would think you could probably just fix them by hand. This would take less time than it would for me to add (and test) the regular expressions to my bot script. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:14, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for all the help (in the past two years), Plastikspork! Case closed. The rest can be done by hand without further changes to the template. Cheers! Rehman 12:31, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Revert of TemplateData addition to doc page

@Rehman: Apparently you don't understand the purpose of TemplateData. --Bamyers99 (talk) 15:34, 19 February 2016 (UTC)

@Bamyers99: Thanks for staring this thread. Well frankly said, I didn't. Either way, that was way too cluttered in my opinion. On the other hand, that was not something that's needed, as it is only for visual editor, whereas the template doc page is not a place one would expect high number of edits nor much visual editor users. The existing table is much neater. I oppose adding this, unless at least one other editor from this area supports adding it. Ping User:NortyNort, User:Beagel. This discussion is regarding this. Thanks, Rehman 23:42, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
@Rehman: TemplateData is not for visual editor editing of the doc page or the template page. It is for visual editor editing of pages that transclude this template. ie. Hoover Dam --Bamyers99 (talk) 23:50, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
I like the idea of quick infobox editing but is there a way to hide the TemplateData in the documentation?--NortyNort (Holla) 11:58, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
I have restored my edit and collapsed the TemplateData section. In addition to the visual editor, other tools can use this machine-readable data, such as this template parameter tool that I created. The Valid name? column is derived from the TemplateData. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:02, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks User:Bamyers99. Rehman 00:21, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Moving Infobox power station Pumped-Storage Power and Tidal Power sections to Infobox_Dam

There is a discussion at power station infobox talk page about moving a section or two to the dam infobox. --Robertiki (talk) 04:15, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Your opinion at the above RFC is deeply valued. The RFC decides if Wikipedia would support data from Wikidata for use in infoboxes (Example - notice the infobox in edit mode). Thank you, Rehman 17:27, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

No point offering display=title

If the infobox is not smart enough to leave the Coordinates line out of the infobox if the inline option is not selected. Rhadow (talk) 17:56, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
