page move

[edit]

i am moving this page to "Yolŋgu Matha." as that is the name of the language, and the name of the page shgould reflect that. "n" and "ŋ" are similar visually, but they are still different letters. ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 07:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

oops, my bad, i see the "g" now. sorry ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 07:37, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You know that the ŋ is not an official character in the english alphabet? Some people wont know how it is pronounced. Enlil Ninlil 18:43, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
well, the page had "Yolŋu Matha" bolded with no other names for the language. i asumed they were one of the same. pages on other languages will have the english name of the language bolded and the name of the language in the language in brackets next to it. when the page name and the bolded name are different, one has to be changed. from this, i thought the page move was justified. ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 01:39, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so can we expand this article more? Information is scare for me. Enlil Ninlil 01:59, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
alright. according to ethnologue, the language group is known as "Yuulngu." wikipedia has almost always called it "Yolngu." so how about the page be moved to "Yolngu Language" and the first lines of the article will be,

Yolngu, also known as Yuulngu (Yolŋu Matha) is the language group.....

and the apropriate changes to the template aswell. this is the most conformed form of the article ...Patrick (talk, cntrb.) 05:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should leave it untill we get a third sorce, hopfully native about the name of the language. Maybe but in my Introduction to Uni reader, Trudgen Richard's spell it Yolŋu. Enlil Ninlil 07:07, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
