John Betjeman visit

[edit]

I have read that John Betjeman wrote his poem Christmas after a visit to Upton Cressett Hall in 1938. My sole evidence for it is a retrospective mention in report in the Shropshire Star of 24 December 2014, ("Elizabeth drops in for friend's carol concert, Guest of honour Hurley gives reading at church", report author James Fisher) which reports a Christmas Carol Concert at Upton Cressett, hosted by writer William Cash, when Elizabeth Hurley read the poem in Upton Cressett Church. Are there other sources that link him and the poem decidedly with this place?Cloptonson (talk) 19:14, 24 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Gatehouse - linked citation

[edit]

I politely point out the linking of the article section to an English Heritage description of the place is possibly misleading in that the source does not mention all the guests named and the more modern names might be misconstrued as mischievous additions!Cloptonson (talk) 06:56, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the position of the citation to the end of the first sentence of the paragraph, as none of the occupants are mentioned in it, and tagged a citation need to the end of the second sentence that lists the visitors.Cloptonson (talk) 14:24, 1 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
