Date? Language? English translation?

[edit]

What language was it originally written in? When? Was it most common in Greek or Latin? The links on the bottom of the article say they are to English translations, but in fact, they are all in Latin. The editors deemed it proper not to print the English translation - Why?Jimhoward72 (talk) 10:56, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stromata as Third part in trilogy

[edit]

I do not believe it is accurate to characterize this work as part of a trilogy. "Because Clement refers in the opening of the Paedagogus to his intention to write a trilogy consisting of Protrepticus, Paedagogus, and Didasculus, and no work by the latter title is known, some earlier scholars considered the Stromateis to be the conclusion of this trilogy. This view is now rejected. No one considers Stromateis to follow the two earlier works in any kind of logical sequence." Heine, Ronald E. "The Alexandrians."
