There are 3 reasons why Sam Alexander (Marine) seemed notable of an entry beyond an award for his bravery:

  1. His death was featured as 3/4 page front cover of The Independent newspaper and full page on page 2, which included news article and continuation of cover article by his father Stuart Alexander ("Was my son's death in Afghanistan a price worth paying?"). It was of a series of notable front covers published by the newspaper that were critical of UK foreign intervention in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their stance being brought closer to home by the death of their reporter's son.
  2. His death was also covered by The Telegraph, The Independent (separate article), The Guardian, Daily Mail, Express, Mirror, Sun and other newspapers, as well as BBC, C4 and Sky news channels - being seen as significant due to Marine Alexander having previously received the MC for bravery.
  3. His death was covered extensively in the media (including The Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Daily Mail, The Sun, Express, etc) and also discussed in Parliament by Richard Drax MP in connection to the 2011 Helmand Province incident as being contributing factor to Sergeant Alexander Blackman mitigation that saw his conviction for murder of injured combatant being overturned and reduced to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Article has been edited as a stub to highlight the extensive UK media interest in Marine Alexander's death, and nature of the interest, rather than remain as a longer entry article.

Mistitled

[edit]

You say "British Army soldier" as part of the title but the Royal Marines ARE NOT PART OF THE ARMY.

Sam was a Royal Marines Commando NOT Army. 2A00:23C4:AA1A:7101:F131:C577:1487:ACAB (talk) 21:09, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Something many people don't seem to get. Although not the title (which is correct), but the short description. I've changed it. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:31, 1 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
