Place of death

[edit]

It's true that most modern sources say he died in Australia. And that may be true. But I've also read (though I've forgotten where) that he's 'believed to be buried on Guernsey'. And the 14 Jan 1897 edition of The Star (Saint Peter Port, Guernsey) mentions the death of the widow of Robert Kenneth Kingsford, who died on the island two years earlier. I agree: Kenneth isn't Kennett - but it may have been an assumption. And read on!

The 15 Oct 1895 edition of The Star says 'The sudden death of Mr. Robert Kingsford formed the subject of [no 'an'] inquiry this morning...Deceased, who was of gentle birth and independent means, lived with his wife and three sons at Belle Vue, Rohais-road, and was forty-seven years of age [actually 45]. Both himself and wife (of Guernsey birth) were described as of intemperate habits.' The 4 Jan 1896 edition: 'Inquest on Mr. Robert Kingsford'.

I know, this may have been Robert Kenneth and not Robert Kennett, and therefore a different guy. But it would mean two RK Kingsfords dying on the same day in different countries. That's not impossible - but BMD lists a marriage between Emily Louisa Radden and Robert Kennett Kingsford in Exeter in 1879. And history.foote-family.com: Emily Louise Radden (1854-97), who married Robert Kingsford, was the daughter of William Radden, a Guernsey butcher. So 'Robert Kenneth' may have been the England footballer...

Worth checking further, if you can?

This source says that he was buried in Guernsey. Whether it is a RS is another matter. Bikeroo (talk) 12:06, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
