Porrón???

[edit]

How is it possible that an article in the english Wikipedia concerning a catalan thing are titled using one word from another language (spanish)? You imagine an article about the "Flamenco" at the English wikipedia titled as "Flamenc" in Catalan (the "Flamenco" is not typical of catalonia)? This is totally absurd! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.25.185.111 (talk) 04:31, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • WP policy at WP:COMMONNAME says that the normal English-language name should be used, regardless of where it came from, whether straight from Catalan, via Spanish/Castilian, or some other term. Now, when I do an English-language web search for "porró", almost nothing relevant appears. When I search for "porrón" or "porron" I get plenty of relevant results, mostly using "porron". That would suggest that the common English-language name is probably "porron". I haven't been able to find either version in any definitive online dictionary. Personally, whatever its name, I gave up trying to use the thing ages ago as it was destroying my shirts :-). Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 09:35, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How to drink from a porron

[edit]

"To drink from a porron, start by bringing it very close to your mouth and tilt it back slowly so the beak points towards your teeth. Once liquid starts coming out, simultaneously pull the porron away from your face and look up. Lower the porron back close to your mouth before stopping so you don't spill any on yourself."

This description reads like it was written by an expert who doesn't remember how they learned to drink from a porron.

Name

[edit]

Shouldn't this article be named "Porró?" I had frankly never heard of anyone calling it a "porron" or "porrón" until I came upon this article, and that includes Spanish-speakers. acomas (talk) 20:29, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Error Porrón is not Catalan(Cultural appropriation).

[edit]

Nationalism in Catalonia uses Cultural appropriation. And now Colon is Catala, Santa teresa de Jesus and, of course, el Torrón. This no demonstrate nothing: "Nostrat i popular", by David Roman, Papers de vi No. 9, Winter 2011, p. 18 (in Catalan). [Consulted 23 Feb 2018] his is only a magazine with a Porrón picture, no demonstrate nothing, This is no talking about Porrón. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.240.175.178 (talk) 15:01, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Event in Catalan 'vikipedia' the are no suede where come from. Be carefully with ('Make Catalonia great') now there is a big wave ok Cultural Appropriation (with churros, moscalel, paella, etc). The are not Catalan, there are in all Spain — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.240.175.178 (talk) 15:29, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of "be careful", beware of people who are Catalanophobic and who do not even have a Wikipedia account... Catgirl (talk) 14:32, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
