Preliminary

[edit]

I'd be reviewing this. I have immediate comments like; please replace the bibliography with this * {{cite journal | last=Nwosu | first=Sebastian N. N. | title=Striving for Excellence in Subspecialty Medical Training in Nigeria | journal=Nigerian Postgraduate Medical Journal | publisher=Medknow | volume=29 | issue=4 | year=2022 | issn=1117-1936 | doi=10.4103/npmj.npmj_228_22 | doi-access=free | pages=347–353}} so that you can directly cite the journal instead of via ResearchGate which is being flagged as unreliable. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanderwaalforces Thank you very much for this kind reply. I have replaced. Ibjaja055 (talk) 06:27, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You should also remove the citations right after the works listed at the "Selected publications" section. Are there no more works? --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@VanderwaalforcesI have removed the citation and I have added more of publications. Ibjaja055 (talk) 06:28, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be doing further spotchecks and prose checks as we go. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 16:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]

The first instance of L.S.M is at the second paragraph of the "Early life and education" section In 1949, holders of the L.S.M. were.... We need to know what L.S.M in full in this first instance, then others can be abbreviated and not be a problem. Also, the source cited, Ilori 2023, says that From 1947-49, Nigerian Hospitals did not accept L.S.M. holders as Medical officers., so you need to reflect just that in this article by saying From 1947 to 1949, holders of the Licentiate in Surgery and Medicine (L.S.M.) were not recognized as medical officers... --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 20:56, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • he earned a Licentiate in Surgery and Medicine otherwise known as LSM Done
  • From 1947 to 1949, holders of the Licentiate in Surgery and Medicine (L.S.M.) were not recognized as medical officers... Done

The first professor of medicine in Nigeria must have earned several awards and recognitions, isn't it. Can you look for, I see quite a handgul from some of the sources already cited. If we can have an "Awards and recognitions" section, then you can also add notable fellowships in that section. I saw some on the lead but not in the body. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 20:56, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Awards and recognitions" section, then you can also add notable fellowships in that section @Vanderwaalforces  Done

This piece is an interview done directly with the subject, fails WP:INDEPENDENT, hence can't be used. Remove it please. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please replace all instances of this source with this one because the former is an exact copy of the latter written by the same person. So what you do is, replace <ref name="q299">{{cite web | last=Ilori | first=Enitan | title=Professor Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, L.S.M., F.R.C.P., F.A.S. (1923–2023) | website=University of Ibadan | date=2023-01-24 | url=https://com.ui.edu.ng/index.php/professor-theophilus-oladipo-ogunlesi-l-s-m-f-r-c-p-f-a-s-1923-2023-first-nigerian-professor-of-medicine | access-date=2024-10-13}}</ref> and all instances of <ref name="q299" /> with <ref name=":3"/>. Please do these first before doing the below, to avoid confusion.--Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Ibjaja055 (talk) 07:54, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When you do the above, add * {{cite journal | last=Ariyo | first=Abraham A. | title=Professor Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, L.S.M., F.R.C.P., F.A.S. (1923–2023) – The first Nigerian Professor of Medicine | journal=Journal of Global Medicine | publisher=Journal of Global Medicine, Ibadan Medical Specialist Group | date=2023-06-22 | issn=2754-0995 | doi=10.51496/jogm.v3.95 | doi-access=free }} to the "Bibliography" sub-section of "References". We will now be citing all instance of <ref name=":3"/> with {{sfn|Ariyo|2023|p=PAGENUMBER}} by replacing PAGENUMBER with the actual page number. You can see the open source document here. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I later did this. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 08:21, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ariyo 2023 says He was the Past President, Association of Physicians of Nigeria, but the article currently says He served as President of the Physicians Association of Nigeria. I did cursory search and can't see them being the same organisation. You should reflect exactly what the source said. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:40, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Ibjaja055 (talk) 07:55, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove this source as it is an interview too. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 23:30, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done Ibjaja055 (talk) 08:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Move Nwosu 2022 to a new section called "Further reading" since we are no longer citing that work in the article. --Vanderwaalforces (talk) 23:30, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanderwaalforces  Done Ibjaja055 (talk) 07:59, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Final comments

[edit]

This is an interesting article which I enjoyed reviewing by the way. Thank you for bringing the first Nigerian professor of medicine up to the GA status, it was fun working with you. Everything is clearly fixed and the only things that are being flagged by Earwig Copyvio tool are phrases like University College Hospital, Royal College of Physicians, Licentiate in Surgery and Medicine, and so many other phrases that are entities and can not be written in another way. There are no images used in this article. The prose is clear and concise. See table below for other criteria.
