WikiProject class rating

[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 10:26, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

[edit]

I was not really surprised to see a new editor remove material that is critical of the college and its management. Contributions must be adequately sourced to reliable sources. Although I appreciate that the College might not want the allegations about bullying and bonuses included within its Wikipedia article, Wikipedia must remain an objective reflection of reality. In other words, a great deal of what was removed is sourced to The Guardian, a 'quality' newspaper than fully satisfies the RS criteria. Additionally, in order to obtain an objective overview of the issues, the passage that you removed contained the company's response to allegations. If you wish to further the college's responses to this accusations, you can add relevant material that is sourced to similarly reliable sources. I also refer users to our conflict of interest policy. There does seem to be a problem with of recentism or undue weight though, having half the history dedicated to the controversy. And although most of it is reliably sourced I would dispute that Socialist Worker is such a source, and the allegations sourced to it are far more extreme. That certainly comes under WP:RS#Questionable sources and should be removed, unless a more neutral source can be found.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 15:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Although the Undue issue is a consequence of the article's lack of development. We don't normally delete articles or material if it is a clear work-in-progress on the basis that it encourages others to contribute and fill in the gaps. There is a lot to be added about the company's history, which, when completed, will solve the Undue issues. You might have a point about SW, though. Merge proposal

[edit]

Oppose: It would make more sense to create a page named NCG (organisation), and move the content about that here, to the new article. NCG has 3 separate collages:

'As an NCG college, Newcastle Sixth Form College operates independently of any other college, but is part of a larger community of practice and shared services with a specialist focus on post 16 education.'

The problem is that the current Newcastle Sixth Form College doesn't have any independent sources, so I'm surprised that it got published to the Main space. Your proposal makes sense to me -- want to do that? Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 16:54, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It would be easier if you, or another registered editor, could simply split the content at Newcastle College#NCG into a new article at NCG (organisation). I'm not using my registered account for anonymity reasons. 81.129.80.11 (talk) 17:58, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think the way to start is to split the NCG content from Newcastle College#NCG out into NCG (organisation). Then if there are enough sources for the 3 colleges independently, they should stay independent. Otherwise, they should be moved into the new NCG (organisation) page. BUT... there's a lot of content & history, so I don't think this should be copy/paste moving. Can you point me to how these sorts of moves are supposed to happen, I haven't done that before... Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 10:06, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask for opinions and help on this proposed split/move at WT:WPSCH before doing anything. 13:04, 26 August 2014 (UTC)Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk)

Some proposed changes

[edit]

I'm looking over online resources and have noticed a lot of detail on the Newcastle College wiki is out of date.

I would like to request additions to the overview. The college now offers apprenticeships and traineeships in addition to Further Education and Higher Education. The Ofsted detail is also very old and may be better placed in history now rather than overview. The up-to-date entry is that 2016 Newcastle College retained Grade 2 Good by Ofsted.

The section that says the college has attracted controversy 'in recent years' over work place bullying is also old and may be better placed in history too. However workplace bullying is not actually substantiated so I question whether it should be in overview/wiki page at all.

I'd also like to add that in 2015 Newcastle College won best college in the UK at the Educate the North Awards, winning the prestigious 'Further Education College of the Year' title. [1]Following on from this success, Newcastle College then went on to win the ‘Student Experience Award’ at the Educate the North Awards in 2016. In June 2016, NCG became the first Further Education Institution in the UK to be awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers (cited of TES https://www.tes.com/news/further-education/breaking-news/first-college-granted-full-degree-awarding-powers) — Preceding unsigned comment added by an unknown user 11:21, 12 January 2017‎
