Use of British educational jargon

In the Early Life section there is a phrase:

...gaining an AA Dip in 1972.

which has no meaning in widely understood English. It appears to be British English jargon for some form of an academic degree. The term AA Dip possibly relates to Architectural Association School of Architecture, but even so it is unclear. The article would be improved if a knowledgeable editor would translate the term.
