Mail steamer Russia

[edit]

The running down of an unnamed barque off Cape Clear on Thursday 27 August was reported in the some Irish papers, and elsewhere without date, but noting crew rescued and taken to Liverpool. At the same time the sinking on an unknown date earlier in the same voyage of the barque Custaloga off Newfoundland only appears in the British papers after arrival in Livepool, to where she brought that ship's crew. I've left these as separate incidents, per refs (but my suspicion is that it was Russia reporting the earlier incident on 27th, on reaching landfall in Ireland at Cape Clear). Perhaps Cunard literature has something clearer. Davidships (talk) 14:50, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
