The two lakes Assal

[edit]

It's odd that there would be two lakes with the same name in the same part of the world; & so inevitably, I confused them.

  • Lake Asal in Djibouti. This is the one Warofdreams created the original article about. It is the lowest point in Africa -- which is surprising because a glance at the map will show a large area below sea level along the Ethiopia-Eritrean border, far to the north. I added "{Djibouti)" to the name of this one to further dismabiguate it. Move to the simpler name if you think the added clarification is unneeded.
  • Lake Assale in Ethiopia. The northern one of a pair of lakes in this large area (the southern one is Lake Afrera); & close to a record hot spot: Dillol, where the average temperature is 34 °C. A carefully-phrased Google query will find this Lake Assale in Ethiopia, but the Djiboutian one is far easier to find. So I renamed this one Lake Karum, although a query on Google won't find it under that name.

I may not have provided the best solution to this problem, but at least I identified it & started untangling it. -- llywrch 06:47, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
