Let's put up a better, less grainy picture of Johnny DuPree--for starters, i suggest the picture at the official City of Hattiesburg website, as it surely is available to the public without copyright restrictions. Here's the address of that less-grainy picture:

[1]

Also, we might further note how significant it is that DuPree has won the Democratic Primary for Mississippi Governor, and how difficult the challenge is that he now faces. Note that since Reconstruction, i think it's safe to say that no black has won any state-wide office in the Deep South (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina). (Of course, we need references for all this). Furthermore, especially in the wake of the Obama backlash (e.g. Tea Party), many otherwise stay-at-home Mississippi voters are likely to come to the polls and vote Republican to keep this black out of office, and in the process it is quite possible that incumbent white Democrats will be voted out of office, and thus Democrats could loose control of the Mississppi House, which is the last state-wide Democrat-controlled legislative body in the Deep South. So this election is extremely critical, and the battle of DuPree for Governor will be very much uphill (please help with references for these apparent conjectures).

At the very least we might document the huge percentage of Mississippi voters registered as Democrats that cross over and vote Republican whenever a black runs for a statewide office (e.g. during the unsuccessful elections of the African American candidates Blackmon and Anderson within the last decade).

Although all this is certainly related to Johnny DuPree, how can we justify it all on a biographical webpage? Would it help to get permission from Johnny DuPree himself? I'm a bit of a Wikipedia editing newbie. That's where you can help me out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.168.38 (talk) 23:56, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just edited in some basic background under "Professional and Public Life" as a scaffold. --Sakusei (talk) 04:11, 25 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to keep the facts and context, but rewrite in a neutral way. I'm not used to writing encyclopedia style. It's hard to describe Hattiesburg's statistics under Dupree tenure without sounding positive. Trying to get the tone right. Not sure about the Mt. Carmel speech, other details. How to balance narrative and decontextualized information? Continuing to edit. --Sakusei (talk) 18:54, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning court case, and witness intimidation

[edit]

Local news on this is kind of sketchy, mostly because of apparent intimidation. I'm going to post the links for an edit here on what's happening right now. Then after the arguments are decided I, or someone else, can write a section on what is happening right now. What I see as important is that the election is having problems. Sources for witness intimidation by Dupre, and the Chief of Police etc, evidence tampering, obvious voter fraud as you have people voting that are dead or out of the state.http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20130730/NEWS01/307300034/Jury-could-pick-Hattiesburg-election-winner-special-election-may-required?nclick_check=1 http://mississippipep.wordpress.com/2013/07/26/pete-perry-testifies-to-numerous-ballot-violations-in-hattiesburg-mayoral-election/ http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/article/20130801/NEWS01/308010031/Mayoral-election-trial-timeline?nclick_check=1 69.139.110.193 (talk) 18:37, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
