Retracted NBC report from September 2014 removed

[edit]

As of September 2014, while all of the investigations are still ongoing, the investigations launched by the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey and by the New Jersey General Assembly have found no evidence that Christie had prior knowledge of or directed the closures.

This hiccup doesn't seem worthy of inclusion.Djflem (talk) 19:38, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The retraction was related to a report by Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News, not the sources referenced by the content.CFredkin (talk) 05:07, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The sources referenced were based on a report by Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News

Here's the source's (Daily News) article ob "reporting gaffe":

According to the source: The gaffe occurred when anchor Brian Williams said on Thursday’s program that federal authorities had cleared the New Jersey governor of involvement in the scandal surrounding the mean-spirited George Washington Bridge lane closures last September.CFredkin (talk) 15:57, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The content you removed states:

As of September 2014, while all of the investigations are still ongoing, the investigations launched by the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey and by the New Jersey General Assembly have found no evidence that Christie had prior knowledge of or directed the closures.

This is unrelated to the retraction. It makes no claim regarding Christie having been cleared by the investigations.CFredkin (talk) 15:57, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What the problem here?

On September 18, 2014 the New York Daily News reported that federal sources had told NBC that the probe had found no links to Christie. On September 20, 2014 the New York Daily News reported that

"On Thursday, Williams said on NBC Nightly News that federal authorities had cleared the governor of involvement in the scandal surrounding the George Washington Bridge lane closures. An NBC spokeswoman said Williams used an 'unscripted line.'".

There appears to be no reason to include the the removed statement, because it certainly would have be followed up by a another that the claim made made NBC was retracted two days later. Why do wish to include this irrelevant non-story in this article? Djflem (talk) 22:02, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A number of sources reported that federal investigations had thus far found no evidence of involvement by Christie (but made no claim that the investigation was completed). At the same time, Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News reported that the investigations had cleared Christie of any wrongdoing. William's statement implied that the investigations were completed. William's then later retracted his statement that the investigations had cleared Christie of any wrongdoing (and the implication that the investigations were complete). However Williams's retraction of his statement had no bearing on the reports by other sources that federal investigators had thus far found no evidence of involvement by Christie.CFredkin (talk) 23:42, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't add this content regarding the status of the investigation initially, but it certainly seems relevant and is reliably sourced.CFredkin (talk) 23:42, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the relevant content from the Daily News article on the retraction that you linked above:

The network’s website had correctly reported the feds so far have found no Christie link. Williams reported the story as if the probe were concluded. NBC spokeswoman Erika Masonhall acknowledged to the Asbury Park Press that Williams got it wrong.
“An unscripted line of our Nightly News report was imprecise and implied that a final decision had been reached,” Masonhall told the newspaper.CFredkin (talk) 00:59, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
