Metropolitan Transportation Commission

[edit]

I have disambiguated the reference to this commission under 'Golden Gate Transit links with the following transit agencies in the Bay Area:' so it points to Metropolitan Transportation Commission (San Francisco Bay Area). However having read that article, I'm not sure whether the link really belongs under that text. The article implies the commision is a transit co-ordinator rather than a transit operator. -- Chris j wood 16:45, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the MTC reference to San Francisco's Muni system. Muni does link with GGT. As far as I know, MTC does not operate transit services. Bassomatic 22:43, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Third transportation system?

[edit]

The article states that 'Golden Gate Transit is one of three transportation systems owned and operated by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District'. It then goes on to mention the Golden Gate Bridge, which is presumably the second system. It is not at all clear what the third is. It could be the ferries, or the buses operated under contract to Marin County, but both of these seem to be implied as part of Golden Gate Transit by the first para. -- Chris j wood 16:45, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they are Golden Gate Ferries, Golden Gate Transit and The Golden Gate Highway Transportation authority, Marin Transit is unrelated i believeCholgatalK! 23:13, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Marin Transit has a somehow complicated status: The Marin Transit operates the bus routes that run throughout Marin County, but the buses that operate on certain routes are under contract from Golden Gate Transit, which makes the transit agency somehow related to GGT. But, Marin Transit is independently owned and funded by the County of Marin, and it uses Golden Gate Transit's resources to run the bus routes in Marin County. Golden Gate Transit is really one of three transportation systems owned and operated by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District (District), and is funded by tolls collected from the Golden Gate Bridge, the other two being the Bridge itself and the Ferry Service (although implied from the full name). -- wishfulanthony 05:28, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Golden Gate Transit and Marin Transit

[edit]

I am wondering if the 10 new New Flyer Industries Articulated Buses (numbered 550 to 559) actually belongs to Golden Gate Transit or Marin Transit because it has both decals on all of its buses. Also, when will be the arrival of the new fuel-cell bus wherein Golden Gate Transit will experiment one of the four buses provided by the California Government (it was already given to AC Transit and Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority)?- wishfulanthony 06:30, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The buses are operated by GGBHTD and were bought using GGBHTD funding through the FTA with a local match provided by Marin Transit. Thus, GGBHTD can operate these buses only on routes under the jurisdiction of Marin Transit. Also, the page has already been updated, but the fuel cell bus test occurred in early 2008.DavDaven (talk) 01:10, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Retirement reasons?

[edit]

Can you tell me why each of every bus has retired and been replaced if necessary?
