Which English name?

[edit]

@Dr. Esra: I moved this article to "German Society for Plant Sciences" because the official website, home page, under "About DBG", says "The German Society for Plant Sciences (Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft, DBG) is the largest non-profit network ...". But then when you clikc "Read more", you see "The German Society for Plant Sciences (Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft, DBG) is the largest organisation..." under a heading "About the German Botanical Society (Deutsche Botanische Gesellschaft, DBG)"! It looks as if they are undecided - or have changed their mind? - about the English version of their name. I have no feelings either way about the title - there's now a redirect from the other English title, and I've also made a redirect from the German title and a hatnote at DBG. Dear PamD Thank you for your question. I think both are correct. The term "German Society for Plant Sciences" explains what they are doing (representing all plant science disciplines ranging from ecological over molecular to genetic sciences in the German speaking) whereas the term "German Botanical Society" is the exact translation of the German name which the society has since their foundation. Since some scientists use "botany" and "plant sciences" synonymously and other discriminate both (considering botany is one of the disciplines of plant sciences). It maybe better to keep it under the "German Society for Plant Sciences" since this term better describes what they are doing. But I think you are more experienced with Wikipedia’s classification system than me. Best wishes Dr. Esra (talk) 13:13, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
