Low fuel indicator

[edit]

When does it light up? I heard it's when reaching 1/8 of gas tank capacity. Can anyone confirm this? 93.172.46.55 (talk) 05:13, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

On current car it does indeed light up at 1/8 of a tank, but others I've owned have differed. Mr Larrington (talk) 13:06, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The fuel icons in modern cars do inform drivers which side to refuel on, but it's not the placement or shape of the fuel icon that carries that information: Nearly all newer models of automobiles include a small arrow or triangle next to the fuel icon that indicates which side of the vehicle bears the fuel door. Fuel Gauge sensitivity ?

[edit]

Not explained in the article is how a fuel gauge is able to get an accurate level for the fuel of a driving vehicle. Driving through the mountains going up and down grades of 5% - 8% the fuel gauge level doesn't seem to change. Do full guauges in autombiles, air craft, and water craft use an averaging system or multiple gauges to determine the fuel level? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jiwhit01 (talkcontribs) 20:20, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The gauge is mounted near the center of the tank, so tilting the tank in either direction has little effect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1003:B012:8792:93C:762B:87A2:6A80 (talk) 12:38, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Battery fuel gauge

[edit]

For batteries there are devices which call industry "fuel gauge". See https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/products/power/battery-management/MAX17055.html/tb_tab0. Should such a thing not be mentioned here too? Asks Harald wehner (talk) 11:33, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
