Combined Top 16 and 17th to 32nd

[edit]

Hiya, I didn't see the point in having a top 16 and then a separate list for 17th to 32nd so I just combined them into a top 32. If there is a reason (such as qualification for tournaments) then it should be explained in the article.

Who the fuck is Jason Wilson?

[edit]

not as good as alfie cook ill tell u that at the list the link gives - there is no mention of any Jason Wilson. He does not have a Wikipedia page and a Google search turns up nothing on an Irish player at or near the top of the WDF rankings, just a journeyman English player. Clearly this is an act of vandalism.

Rankings updated

[edit]

I have updated the current world rankings for both the Professional Darts Corporation and World Darts Federation I have also updated the British Darts Organisation invitational rankings citations have been added all of the top 10 men's and women's WDF ranked players and have added their world ranking to their pages with references. The players infobox should only reflect the official world body of the sport when stating world rankings as per the ATP Rankings in tennis the BDO is the official federation for the UK their rankings are based on their own events and (invitation only) they do not reflect the correct global ranking.--Navops47 (talk) 03:19, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request for comment Official World Rankings

[edit]

I'm requesting comments for what constitutes the official World Rankings for darts put simply the world governing body is the World Darts Federation which globally ranks players competing in all WDF recognised tournaments the result of the Tomlin order findings were that the Professional Darts Corporation recognised the WDF as the governing body of the sport as stated in Anne Kramers book The Ultimate Book of Darts: A Complete Guide to Games, Gear, Terms, and Rules. my main issue is that I added the WDF ranking for players articles e.g. Darius Labanauskas who is the current World No1 according to the WDF here: http://www.dartswdf.com/tables/world-darts-federation-rankings/wdf-mens-rankings/ these keep being reverted on the basis that the British Darts Organisation rankings are the official world ranking and this is not the case their rankings are used to determine qualification and seedings for tournaments it runs and for players only registered with them and they are one of 66 national bodies federated to the WDF. The WDF is officially registered with SportAccord as are FIFA I believe the BDO rankings should be either be a separate article or that we change the template infobox for darts players to include both.--Navops47 (talk) 05:23, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Other comments about this have also been discussed at Talk:WikiProject Darts WDF rankings editing.--Navops47 (talk) 05:26, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
To me, it seems like the main point of contention here is changing what has been used on Wikipedia from the get-go. The BDO ranking, while not 'the official world ranking', is still a ranking used in the professional game used to determine rankings for the prominent major events in the calendar, and is what has been used in Wikipedia darts articles for at least 5 years. It is not like the BDO ranking is just some journalist-agreed ranking, it is based on points scored in certain major calendar events. The WDF ranking system seems to merely award players that play more; the WDF 'World Number 1' Darius Labanauskas was knocked out in the preliminary round of this year's world championship, but because he has played in a lot WDF events, he's the world number 1, who I can find less than 5 news articles based on.
My main point is 'What do people want to be looking for on Wikipedia?'. The WDF World Number 1 has a paragraph written about his career, the BDO World Number 1 has substantially more, and is a more well-known figure on the darts world stage, at least to those who would be reading the English-language Wikipedia. I believe that people will be more likely to be seeking the BDO ranking, which is used for the most prominent events, and has been used on Wikipedia ever since the articles were first created. One problem with Navops way of doing this is that he had edited the darts players' pages, changed the world ranking shown for some players and not others and changed the agreed layout of each player's bio, without asking for the consensus of the Darts WikiProject, which I would think should be pertinent before such a large change, and has not allowed reversions until this matter has been discussed. I could see showing both the BDO and WDF ranking being possible, but for people who are new to darts going onto Wikipedia to find information it may be a bit confusing to see someone with two world rankings. My concern is that Navops has been taking this decision into his own hands and has been reverting any edits to change the ranking back until this matter has been sufficiently discussed. I'm merely following WP:Be bold the fact of the matter is that the BDO is not the world governing body of darts the rankings they administer are merely for seeding players accordingly for its own events I invite readers to read this article http://www.globaldarts.de/globalDartsEN/misc/steve/steve4.html for where I'm coming from. For example the British Lawn Tennis Association determines seeding for the tennis Major Wimbledon based on a players performance in what it recognizes as qualifying grass court events annually however they are a national body within the ITF much like the BDO wthin the WDF they do not set official world rankings that's left to the ATP if a former WDF World No1 Scott Waites who is British and a BDO registered player acknowledges the WDF Rankings are the official World rankings as here: http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/11286211.Darts__Mitchell_celebrates_number_one_billing_with_coffee_and_sausage_roll/ than that's FACT. Our job on wikipedia is to provide accurate substantiated facts the infobox for players states that's their world ranking the (BDO) one when in fact its not. The argument that because you win multiple tournaments other than the BDO's does not qualify you as World No1 is ridiculous in tennis the more tournaments you win regardless whether they are Majors or not your end up as World No1 as a result of more points earned through more tournaments played and won globally the same applies here. In fact the only rankings that should be included officially on the article Darts world rankings should be the WDF and PDC that both represent both players global tours currently much like the Grand Prix tennis circuit and the WCT when there was a similar split within that sport with one tour offering more prize money from 1970 to 1989 before finally merging. Wikipedia's job is not mislead readers the BDO rankings should be in a separate article which clearly states they are not the official global rankings and that they are formulated to determine seeding for their Major events the info box for players should be changed and linked to the offical world ranking article with an extra link to a separate BDO ranking article that explains the difference.--Navops47 (talk) 18:47, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Summoned by bot, if there are two legitimate contenders for the 'official' world ranking charts, the most informative resolution would be for the article to relate that real world dispute. Which you use in the actual ranking charts, is a more problematic matter, and I am not sufficiently knowledgable to judge. Pincrete (talk) 20:42, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Official Rankings

[edit]

Why don't we follow the official rankings? To do anything else would be OR? We can't use the footnote reference otherwise (footnote 1 that is) Alan Davidson (talk) 01:07, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It was reverted - but we can't refer the the footnote as the source and then just change the data. This is an encyclopedia. Alan Davidson (talk) 01:39, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The last edit was rude and abusive. What should I do? The reverts were not discussed here? What is "wrong" with me is also "wrong" with the official PDC and its website which lists Taylor. Their rating rules indicate that the rating remains - for 2 years. Please discuss and assume good faith. My edits are in good faith based on the PDC site - which is the site referenced. Unless discussed I will alter to the site to conform to the PDC and not someone's uncited OR. I assume good faith on your behalf, but this is an encyclopedia, based on authorities. Alan Davidson (talk) 13:41, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided not to engage in an edit war. The correct information remains on the official PDC site that lists the official ratings, which is where people will need to go to obtain the correct information. Alan Davidson (talk) 04:08, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Official rankings should be followed of course. Note Taylor is still an honorary PDPA member, which in addition to full membership is required to appear on the OoM. -Koppapa (talk) 05:35, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Koppapa - you are correct of course. This anonymous person (who is also using a sockpuppet) acknowledges the official site retains Taylor and still won't recognise it. The information n this site must not be original (the OR principle). It cites the PDC site then ignores it. I suggest this site should be restricted to long term users to stop this behaviour. Alan Davidson (talk) 14:38, 18 January 2018 (UTC) I should add that this person suggests we wait till the PDC updates the page. But of course they have. The total figures have been updated; and Taylor remains. Perhaps to be sure, wait till the next update, and if Taylor remains we should then change it back with full consensus. Alan Davidson (talk) 14:45, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to CambridgeBayWeather, Koppapa and Nzd. I agree that whenever the PDC site changes, this site should change as well. Alan Davidson (talk) 08:48, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WDF Rankings

[edit]

The WDF Rankings are outdated, but both use #invoke:DartsRankings. How would we go about getting these updated? JamesVilla44 (talk) 21:44, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Data comes from here, see also here for other rankings. The documentation is lacking though, no idea, how that gets updated. Seems like a mess to do by hand. -Koppapa (talk) 07:27, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
