Name Issue

[edit]

I have temporarily removed questionable material concerning the naming.

  • "Columbia" was at the time a well-established name in American culture, stemming originally from Christophero Columbo
  • The Irish sailor-saint, as quoted in the article, is not an impossible source but would seem less likely that Columbus in contemporary usage.
  • According to John Robson, author of "The Captain Cook Encyclopaedia" ... "There is uncertainty about the age of the Columbia Rediviva. Rediviva means reborn suggesting to some that it was an old ship that had been rebuilt and not a new ship." See http://pages.quicksilver.net.nz/jcr/~vamerican1.html

As this is not a biography of a living person, just put a {{fact}} tag on unsourced and questionable material. I reverted your edit and added a source for the NASA part and the tag to the other part. If a source does not appear in a month, then remove it. Aboutmovies 14:34, 9 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The USS Lady Washington link in the text is to a page for the rowboat, but shouldn't it be to a page (if one exists) for the original sailing vessel? 24.16.11.57 (talk) 18:08, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
