Nicolson vs. Nicholson

[edit]

I'm not sure about this but im adding it anyway, I believe the difference in the 2 spellings comes from when the original MacNeacails/MacNicols was anglicanized, 2 different spellings emerged. However, how McNichol came to be created I am unsure of.

I assume the reason the clan name is Nicolson is because that was the name of the man the current chief claimed to descend from ("Nicolson of that Ilk" of the 1600s). Like all surnames, there can be many variations, names bounced from one spelling to another right into the 1900s. I've got great-grandparents who are buried in the same cemetery as a brother who used a slightly different spelling. Its easy to look too deeply in the spelling of surnames - Nicolson and Nicholson are the same.--Celtus (talk) 10:33, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current chiefship and The Highlander

[edit]

Just wondering why the part about the chiefship being vacant was reverted and it's reference (The Highlander) removed.--Celtus (talk) 09:22, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
