Hindu/Muslim

[edit]

I'm new to Wikipedia, so I don't want to start a big stink, however, I am involved in academia, so some of this editing comes as a surprise to me.

I am wondering how this phrase is a religious point of view:

"It is interesting to note that the Benares gharana is the only one to have been started by a Hindu; the other five gharanas were started by Muslims."

This is not an opinion; it is a statement of fact, and it is relevant to Indian culture, and it is an interesting point as it has an effect on some of the repertoire performed by this gharana. Would it be better if I removed "It is interesting to note that" and just write "The Benares gharana is the only one to have been started by a Hindu; the other five gharanas were started by Muslims."

? I just don't think facts should be watered down... User:Shawntabla 21:53, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure it's a fact. No big stink, we need to discuss it. What you wrote is open to interpretation and it's relevance is not established. If you meant to say that "This gharana's Hindu origins differentiates some of the repertoire performed from all the other gharanas, which are Muslim in origin. In particular such pieces as .... are critically interpreted as clearly showing Hindu influence". Put it back more coherently expressed. Cheers Clappingsimon talk 23:48, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
