Introduction

[edit]

The introduction section should be moved to the lede where it belongs. Is there some reason that this article is not formatted as a wiki page should? — al-Shimoni (talk) 00:11, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:LEDE. — al-Shimoni (talk) 00:13, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know it's confusing but...

[edit]

There used to be two species Hierochloe odorata and Hierochloe hirta. Apparently, the Genus Hierochloe has been absorbed into Anthoxanthum. Meanwhile there was a species Hierochloe odorata, which it would seem would now be Anthoxanthum odoratum, but no, apparently that is a whole different species... Anthoxanthum hirtum, which now has multiple subspecies. SO... Anthoxanthum odoratum is not the same as "holy grass, vanilla grass" which are the common names for Hierochloe odorata. I have no idea about "buffalo grass" but I'm guessing since this is a Eurasian species, that is wrong as well. Besides, Buffalo grass is usually Bouteloua dactyloides.

If you compare the seed heads of Hierochloe odorata and Anthoxanthum odoratum then you'll see what I mean.

Latin for "Smell as well"?

[edit]

The article says "odaratum" means "smell as well", but that phrase is incomplete and ambiguous. Most English speakers would wonder, "Smell as well as what?" Google Translate suggests that "odoratum" should be translated as "perfumed", which makes much more sense to me. Can someone who actually knows Latin check this? 76.121.216.141 (talk) 06:47, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, something was wrong there. I've changed it to "odorous". Plantdrew (talk) 20:11, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
