Reunion?

[edit]

I would like to know on what basis you claim that Menezes reunited the Syrian church to the Romans.Among the descendants of those Syrian Christians who swore never to fall under Roman subjugation at the 'Koonan Kurisu Satyagraha' Menezes is considered the vilest and most hated villian in the history of Syrian Christianity. Before the Portugese arrived, there is no solid evidence of the Syrian Malabar church being in communion with Rome, despite claims of the Roman church that their Bishops had visited the Malabar coast once or twice. There is irrefutable evidence however of the Syrian Church in Kerala being in ecclesiastical communion with churches in the Middle East, who themselves were in no way under Roman domination. This hoax of reunion is just another scheme by the Roman Church, to convince those whom they have converted to their denomination of their sole legitimacy, ignoring the apostolic succession of the other Episcopal churches.

Union

[edit]

The word reunion does seem a bit controversial. On the other hand, from what I understand, the Christians of Saint Thomas were generally, initially happy to be united to the Roman Catholic Church. Unfortunately, Aleixo de Menezes and the Portuguese seem to have turned the whole picture around.

I think the statement "Though this is the official view among Syrian Christians who fall under Roman jurisdiction, the Syrian Christians of Eastern rites, independent of Rome, view Menezes as the harbinger of the darkest era in their history," is fairly dubious, given the fact that the 1913 Catholic Encyclopaedia recognized the errors that had been committed. Certainly, 1913 was before the modern era of Ecumenical concessions. So one would suspect that the strictest Catholic traditionalist would have to concede the point.

I shall give some thought to rewording the article -- truth is more important than anyone's official view...
