Locate Acombe

[edit]

Can anyone help to locate this village as it doesn't appear in any of the mapping systems I use?— Rod talk 09:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could it really be Alcombe? How about the article is deleted? There's been no activity for two years, there's no indication that it even exists? Rich257 (talk) 14:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could be - I got a response from Merovingian who said "Originally, I got the idea from here. I can't find it on a map yet, but it does seem to exist, as this UK government site lists it. There are also a few old books that may reference it." But I think it could be a typo on one of those which was then duplicated to another list & it's not in any of the local history books I have, although I did find reference to an Acombe in the north of England. I did find an Acombe Cross on a planning application - as a cross roads in Stapley in the parish of Churchstanton - but if it's this one it too small to be notable. If it is for deletion presumably it needs to go to AfD for attention of an admin?— Rod talk 17:19, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article could just be marked with a {{prod}} tag and then, if no-one contests it, it is removed after about seven days (by an administrator). That's the simplest way for an uncontested deletion. Rich257 (talk) 17:22, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I've added the template on the article & the original creators talk page - I'm probably the only person to have looked at it in 2 years!— Rod talk 17:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have found a possible location at 50°55′14″N 3°09′01″W / 50.92059°N 3.15033°W / 50.92059; -3.15033 according to Havant Borough Public Transport Rich257 (talk) 17:33, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thats the same as the one in the planning application - but there is no village there it is Stapley & none of the roads lead to anywhere called Acombe on my maps - the actual map ref is to a field boundary!— Rod talk 17:41, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How about a redirect, if it's really a misspelling? I'll do that now, if it's a different place it can always be un-redirected. --UsaSatsui (talk) 17:17, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
