This article states that this was the first silverware won by Man Utd since 1985. This was not the case hence them being in the Cup Winners Cup in the first place. I'd edit it but I've not done it before so don't know the protocol behind it. Scottbrown 14 10:43, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- I see someone's sorted it now, nice one. Scottbrown 14 09:51, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Attendance

[edit]

Given the amount of data they control, it's perhaps not surprising that UEFA might go a bit arse-over-tit with some figures, but yet again we have conflicting sources regarding the attendance for this game. The link we use for the match report says the attendance was 43,500 (or 44,000, depending on where in the article you look first), but a pretty official-looking table also produced by UEFA says the attendance was 45,000. Then we have Manchester United's official stats site, which says that 50,000 people were at the game. I'm tempted to believe the 43,500 figure as it's accurate to the most significant figures out of the four values, but I'm sure that's an example of some sort of logical fallacy. – PeeJay 23:47, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is quite difficult for me to decide on as well, but I for one find the All-time finals table to be the more reliable source, because of it being the latest article (30 June 2005) on the Cup Winners' Cup. The archive reports contains plenty of good information and this includes the attendance numbers, but I have noticed that some of them do come across as a bit strange, for instance, if we take the 1974 European Cup Winners' Cup Final as an example, the match's archive report lists 4,641 as the official attendance, while the All-time finals list says 6,461. However, on this Youtube video, in 2:49, the German commentator announces the attendance as 6,000 (Sechstausend Besucher), meaning 6,461 must have been the more probable attendance. So my final opinion would be that the All-time finals list table is more accurate and I believe the same can be said for the 1991 Cup Winners' Cup final's attendance (45,000). However, my theory could be wrong and if you can come up with something better, feel free to correct me. Arbero (talk) 22:35, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
