The translated lyrics is an oblivious work of google translate — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.80.233.52 (talk) 16:06, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's worse than Google Translate. A recent Google Translate gives this, which is still obviously incorrect but much better.

All over the world, my country is bustling with lyrics,
   Happy country peaceful renewal.
Rhythmically, young and old girls, young and old, play the guitar and sing the lyrics,
Welcome to a peaceful renewal of the country,
Happy life full of many homes, singing together.
All over the world, our country has a strong song.
   Vietnamese peoples welcome joy,
   Happy country bustling laughter.
Friends everywhere exchanged words, congratulated the beautiful country,
Celebrate the Capital - City for ever,
Green History is always radiant with great deeds.
How many friends in continents sing joyfully.
Here, heaven and earth Thang Long, Dragon illuminates,
   Thousand years of love land.
Living together in peace, coloring the beautiful land,
   Thousand years of love land,
Enjoy living in peace, sweet songs.
Congratulation to the capital worthy of Hoa Binh.
Singing to celebrate the capital worthy of Hoa Binh,
Congratulation to the capital worthy of Hoa Binh

Revisionist?

[edit]

I am somewhat curious to the sources claiming that the Gia Long Emperor ordered its creation, from what I can find it was created more recently during the 1920's. Also it was the national anthem of Annam and Tonkin long before 1945, yet the article claims that it was only "made official" then. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:26, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate audio file(?)

[edit]

The audio file used on this page does not match the traditional tune, which is still used in funerals and cultural events in Vietnam, Đăng đàn cung. Instead, this reconstruction resulted in entirely different file, either because of time signature mistake or the sheet music Prof. Liam C. Kelley has acquired is entirely different from the usual Đăng đàn cung.

Traditional ensemble playing it, different from Wikipedia audio sample but lines up pretty well with other traditional performances: Tùng Quân & Đăng Đàn Cung - YouTube

Funeral/traditional-Buddhist ensemble playing it, again same tune but drastically different from Wikipedia file: Bản Đăng đàn cung - YouTube

Same here, traditional performance of tune lines up pretty with other performances but drastically different from Wikipedia rendition: Dang Dan Cung - The National Anthem of the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802-1945) Dan Tranh: Dang Thao - YouTube

Again, a traditional ensemble plays this tune instead of the reconstruction we have on this page: Đăng Đàn Cung | Âm Nhạc Di Sản Youtube - YouTube

an old recording (1965? 1999?), plays the traditional tune instead of what we have on wikipedia: Đăng Đàn Cung 1965 - Nhã Nhạc Cung Đình Huế | GS. Nguyễn Hữu Ba Thu Thanh - YouTube

Government made reconstruction, uses the widespread traditional tune instead of Prof. Liam C. Kelley's reconstruction: Tốp Ca Nữ - Non Sông Vang Câu Ca Mừng (Đăng Đàn Cung) - YouTube

Yet another reconstruction, this time from a non-Vietnamese source: "Đăng đàn cung" - National Anthem of The Nguyen Dynasty (1802~1945) - YouTube

So there is three possibilities:

  • There were two different Đăng đàn cung, one is Annam Protectorate version (French/European version) and other is Buddhist ensemble version
  • Prof. Liam C. Kelley made a mistake and what we have is a false file.
  • Vietnamese traditional ensembles and Vietnamese government uses a different/false music file, since 1965/1999 it is (for some reason)

Anyways, one must be true, and we should correct this page according to this fact. How can I further my research of this phenomena is another question. Cactus Ronin (talk) 14:27, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be three different songs, interesting:
  • Đăng Đàn Cung, traditional tune (resembles a Buddhist funeral tune)
  • Đăng Đàn Cung, Prof. Liam C. Kelley reconstruction (French protectorate version?)
  • Non Sông Vang Câu Ca Mừng (the government-made version of traditional Đăng Đàn Cung tune which carries more city and people focused lyrics such as "happy people" or "celebrate the city")
This just makes this more confusing than it was. Cactus Ronin (talk) 14:32, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
